Great reaction. The song is almost 5 years old - it was on BABYMETAL's 3rd album Metal Galaxy released in 2019. Fox_Fest in Tokyo in May (arranged, hosted and headlined by BABYMETAL) was the first chance they all had to meet up and to finally do this very first live performance with them all together.🎸🦊🎸 It is certainly one of BABYMETAL's more mellow songs ... but BABYMETAL can do everything. That's one reason their collaborations all work so well as they are so versatile they can do pretty much whatever style and match up with whoever they are collaborating with. Polyphia are a mainly instrumental Prog Rock band from Texas Tim Henson and Scott LePage recorded the guitar tracks for the original recording of the song after BABYMETAL sent them a fairly rough demo. They didn't know what the song would sound like until they heard it when the album was released.
Another thoughtful, well observed reaction. I really appreciate the attention you put into these. I too am new to Polyphia. From my recent listening I'd say they present a very technical, unique take on instrumental progressive rock. But that's just me. That said this is a Babymetal song written-to my recent listening-very much in the style of a Polyphia song. This was originally released back in 2019 as a studio recording. It has taken all the way to Foxfest 2024 for the two bands to be able to meet and play this together in person. I am as always knocked out by the beauty of Su's voice. And by Babymetal's ability to collaborate so successfully with so many different artists. While always remaining unmistakably Babymetal!? Nice comment on the silhouettes. That really is very much a thing with Babymetal and It had never occurred to me how much a part of their presentation it's become.
One of my favourites - not only for the musicality but also the positive and uplifting message which really resonates with a lot of people (me included). It is amazing to see this finally performed live with Scott and Tim. You can find a short interview with Tim discussing his involvement in the song development. This shows once again the versatility and respect shown by the Babymetal team to their collaborators and fans. Thanks for the thoughtful reaction. 🦊🤘
Thanks for doing this request. The song is from their 2019 Metal Galaxy album. It is an homage to Japanese city pop from the 80s-90s so it is definitely one of their more pop oriented songs. But I love Su's vocals in this one. They had the first opportunity to perform it live with Scott and Tim at their Fox Fest in Japan this year.
City Pop was/is a funky, disco style of pop that originated int he late 70s. Marika Takeuchi and her song Plastic Love is an iconic city pop song. Polyphia is a mostly instrumental (they have occasional guest vocalists) band that focuses on the guitar work of Scott LePage and Tim Henson. Both are considered some of the best guitarists active today and Tim especially has been driving something of a new style of guitar where he composes songs using software and then figures out how to play them on the guitar. He has a very "digital" style with a lot of harmonics. Check out GOAT, Playing God or Ego Death for a sample of Polyphia's work. They were much less well known in 2019 when they were featured on this song on the album but are pretty famous now.
Nice one! This is one of my favorite chill songs. Polyphia is an instrumental band from Plano, TX. They combine extremely technical guitar playing with a groovy style, sometimes pop, electronic heavy, or R&B influences. Check out “Playing God”, “G.O.A.T”, or “Ego Death ft. Steve Vai”. 🤘🦊
Great reaction as always. This is a song from the album METAL GALAXY released 5 years ago, and this is a video of their performance at Fox_Fest last year, when the first collaboration stage was realized.
Thanks for this reaction. This track from "Metal Galaxy" is given a new lease of life with the live presence of Tim Henson and Scott Lepage, and as always the staging is perfect.
I always enjoy your BABYMETAL reactions!! The very first time that I heard this song, it also gave me 80's Pop vibes... this made sense when I subsequently found out that it is influenced by City Pop. I wake up to this song every day as my alarm... I just love the positive message. Awesome to see them all finally sharing the stage together. Thank you for the reaction. 🦊🤘🔥
Brand New Day is off Babymetal's 2019 album, "Metal Galaxy", but it took five years for them to manage to get together on stage to perform it live. I got to see this performance live at FOX_FEST in Tokyo in May 2024. Being the first live performance, it was a special occasion and I'm glad I got to see it in person. Polyphia are generally classed as a prog rock band, but they tend to exist in the metal space, playing a lot of metal festivals and collaborating with metal artists. Brand New Day is definitely strongly influenced by Polyphia's style, but I think there are also hints of citypop songs like Sparkle by Tatsuro Yamashita or Plastic Love by Mariya Takeuchi in the overall vibe of the song. It's definitely got a bit of an 80's throwback feel about it. It's one of their most laid back and vibey songs.
Good jobs again 👊🏽⚡️Beautiful collab to a beautiful song. It is a common theme in Babymetal’s songs from their beginning, move forward, and rock the f out🤘🏾🦊
The very large very bright artificial show screen probably cost a lot money! For one this very famous entertaining bands!💰 Passcode for epicness or passcode band. During their live concert songs events! The band uses the 🥰perfectly colored designs! Of an eternal darkness matches with the very bright blue starry sky 💙 background. Look exactly a perfectly under sea water kingdom!✨💙 Including for other very impressive events!👏 very bright blue and orange lights all over the main stage event!💙 Clearly showing the very attractively ladies body structures! Absolutely very stunning of beautiful of pure lovely perfection!✨💕💖🥰💞❤✨ My great recommendation for today! Have a very impressive beautiful 😍 day.😍❤
The song was actually made 5 years ago, and this is the first time they have performed together. Of course this is a special performance. And you say this is different, it's not surprising, Babymetal has always been different😄
Great reaction friends 🔥🤘🦊🤘🔥 I agree with your comment about the 80s feel. When I first heard it, it made me think of...If Prince was young and recording music today. Oh and I think it came out in 2019. 💥🎸🥁 🎸💥
Welcome back to the Foxhole and now going back to Metal Galaxy era.🦊🤘🌅 Metal Galaxy is a wonderful album and full of surprises, you're gonna find more songs like this with more mature sound, it came out in 2019 so isn't so new. The album version got the collaboration of Polyphia guitarists, Tim Henson (short hair on the right) and Scott LePage (long hair on the left), and it's quite clear in the solo section. Polyphia got a viral clip when they were performing live and having an issue with the drummer IEM not working and a roadie helped him out in an unorthodox way to save the show, very funny clip. Their songs are mainly instrumental but i think they got some collabs with famous singers but don't quote that on me, what is for sure they got mad skills playing instruments. Tim Henson said when listening to this song that he would love to play this along with BabyMetal on the stage, he didn't know the final cut when he was doing the riffs on this song. The dance on this song is beautiful and graceful, they're showing another mature side and more complicated choreography. According to MoaMetal is the hardest song to dance along with BxMxC and Night Night Burn iirc, not sure if this statement will be the same now that they got a full new album. Song is inspired by certain "city pop" band (city pop is a subgenre widely known in Japan) and Utada Hikaru songs, when SuMetal heard this she doubt about it being a metal song but then the guitars solo were added and all make senses suddenly. Finally we got them together on stage and with this awesome live performance, it is their first time performing together. They did it again at Graspop Festival in Belgium and they hug each other at the end just like in this version only thing it was cut out, there's also a proshot clip but I'm not so sure about the sound mix. They finished the Europe Tour and they did it along with EC playing their collab song twice at Resurrection Fest in Spain. This month is coming Asian Tour and after that American Tour, can't wait for Knotfest Brazil, Argentina and Chile. Btw during the Europe Tour they performed with a new super cool battle dresses (almost all black), while wearing this iridiscent costume only when performing along with EC, when BM were doing their own version they're wearing the new battle dresses, which means they don't change outfits. Along with RATATATA this was definitely one of the highlights at FOX_FEST and a lot of Japanese fans were looking for, I guess that cool slow pace city pop element gives some nostalgia and that's why many fans love it. In a recent interview, Tim and Scott talked about a new song in their upcoming album along with BM, let's see what they got but I'm pretty sure it's gonna be something real good like this one. In a more recent interview BM said that they would love to collab along with Fall Out Boy, can you imagine?👀 Keep enjoying BM songs and see you next time 🦊🤘🔥

I’m embarrassed to say as someone who lives fairly close to Polyphia that I didn’t know them before this original release about 5 years ago. Thank you Babymetal for the introduction. To be fare, I had stopped listening to music for 15-20 years. Polyphia is a progressive metal band, mostly instrumental with some exceptionally talented musicians. The style of music is extremely technical, but generally on the soft, or jazz side. I know you have reacted to Lisa-X (Koiai), who has performed and/or supported Polyphia for years. Of course you can’t mention Koiai without mentioning Hazuki who is in both Koiai and Nemophila. Those two are big supporters and have actually covered a Polyphia song, or two. Try G.O.A.T. or Ego Death featuring Steve Vai, whenever time away from supporting Babymetal is needed. ❤️🦊 EDIT: Additional thought. I was just listening to Saki’s (former Nemophila, Mary’s Blood, and Destrose) guitarist again on her solo song the Empress. While Saki has never mentioned Polyphia as an influence, she tends to be harder, I did hear some small resemblances to Polyphia. Perhaps this is simply due to the technical solo guitar emphasis. If you haven’t reacted to that one, you should.
I respectfully disagree. Not pop at all. IMO this is modern jazz fusion. Polyphia is very jazzy - they do jazzy instrumental rock. BM is very good at adapting to the artist with whom they are collaborating.
Well there direct interaction with Polyphia was rather limited. And in fact this song was much stronger one of their songs than Ratatata. Polyphia just added their Guitars and then they had to finish the song. And in fact they were at first adraid that the sing was too soft. But exactly this is the important Element today. It is an important Proof that they can play in the background and grant another group the main stage.
