thegolden hub , that etude was literally the first thing I thought of when I saw your comment. Wow big challenge, good luck! Arguably one of the hardest in both opus 10 and 25. Which other Chopin piano etudes have you attempted too?

I need to accelerate my descending L.H. chromatic scales, and reserving the third finger for black keys isn’t fast enough. I found it faster when the index finger hits black keys.

  • @markusleyer3299

Ok, now I know, this is for beginners, but playing chromatic scales can be done in quite a variety, depending on the requirements of the piece. Good example is the Chopin etude op.10 n.3, where one uses the fingers 345 for the chromatic scale, while playing the melody with the same hand that plays the chromatic scale. Also, it is possible to use a faster fingering when going for speed, going 123,1234,12345 from e. Or when playing 2 chromatic scales with 1 hand, one for example uses 1,2 for the first and 3,4,5 for the other.

I have a request... Can you make a video about finger technique when playing scales? I know how to figure out my sharps and flats but I haven't seen a video on how to move up and down the scale with your fingers. I want to learn a good way of playing the scales so I won't develop a bad habit of wrong technique. Something I would like to know is what finger should overlap the other when ascending and descending. So can you help me out here? Please and thank you!

Why not walk 2-3-2-3 instead of 1-3-1-3 on back and forth segments? I find it pretty easy to to 2-3-2-3-1-2-3-2-3-2-3-2-3 for example on the right hand if we start on C, or 2-3-2-3-2-1-3-2-3-2-3-2-1 on the left hand. Does it have to do with the fact that would lead to just doing 2-3-2-3 forever on the right hand descending? Does that perhaps limit top speed or is it bad form?

Good video, and thanks for uploading. I think the real point of attention in this video should be why the moment of using your index finger is different when for example ascending with RH (1-3-1-3-1-2) versus with LH (1-3-1-3-2-1). If there is some logic to this, then for me it would be great to hear. Because I can do both, and sometimes one way feels easier and sometimes the other way around feels more natural/easier.

Having developed this fingering in Class Piano with Dr. Neve, I experienced no problem with it in keeping with the tempo with Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata, Pathetique, and Für Elise; however, the chromatic passage of Chopin’s First Ballade requires different fingering, and the recommended fingering is included in the score. The melodic and harmonic scales also must be played so swiftly that I’m playing my scales again daily to hasten my pace as much as possible, but I detect that I’m oblivious to important information about the best fingering for some of these Chopin works?
