Everyone in our class whispers "yesss" when our band director tells us to get out this piece, when we're told to get out a different one everyone groans
Holy cow! I haven't been on this video in a while....over 2000 likes? Thank you to all the students and directors who have played/programmed this piece. If it's made your band experience a little more fun, then that makes me extraordinarily happy. Also happy to announce that "Tales from the Darklands", a collection of stories from the Darklands, will be coming out sometime in 2020.
I come from a small town we love it I personally and I find it quite challenging but not too hard it's just right to the point where you want to keep tuba and I am grateful that you made this
Randall, I don't know if you'll ever see this, but you are a freaking legend when it comes to making music. I can't imagine ever being able to make music this good as you do.
Same here, our band played The Nine my sophomore year and everyone was infatuated with it, the percussion section especially. Randall, your talent with music is so rare, and I hope you know how many people’s days you made!
Rip, my band had to remove this song because our *Dang Clarinets* couldn’t play it, And as a Bari Sax player this song is so fun to play 😭 Edit: this was back when I was in middle school, i was an 8th grader and it was the second band. most of the 8th grade clarinets were in the highest band since they were good, so my band was full of people from 7th grade who were still new. I understand this may not be the most difficult piece to play, but our clarinets were definitely below average (unfortunately)
High Voltage your clarinets must be garbage cause for us 1st clarinets it’s easy as heck. The hardest part is the solo we have and it’s not even hard😂 also we are an 8th grade band. I would love to play harder stuff but we only have 1 trombone and he’s actually insane.
Hello Mr. Standridge The piece is truly amazing, I never get tired of it. My while band loves it and we're playing it at a competition in 2 months, and I am very honored to play this piece. I play the French Horn and I'm in the 8th grade, thank you for putting this up, I can go back to it whenever I need. I can't wait to see how my band plays this, thank you.
YASSS I NEVER SEE OTHER PEOPLE WHO PLAY THE AMAZING FRENCH HORN INSTRUMENT! It’s so uncommon but sounds so fresh. I’m in 7th grade and were doing his song. We’ve also done Mr.Standridge’s Skygazer Fanfare. GO FRENCH HORNS! #frenchornsquad
I'm in 7th too, but I'm a flute. ;-; There's only two French Horns in my band and our school puts 7th and 8th grade together in one big band, dunno why. I probably would've chose French Horn too, just too big for me since me is short. (grammar)
My freshman year in hs we played this and at 2:01 my director told the 1st trumpets to play that part up an octave and they did it perfect and it sounded so awesome to me as a new freshman. This song brings back memories
This is an amazing piece. I played it for contest two years ago when I was a seventh grader. When my band preformed this we got all ones on stage (1 being superior and 5 being poor). I wanted to thank you Mr. Standridge for an amazing and beautiful music.
I’m first chair trumpet in the 8th grade, me and the baritone saxophonist are the only ones who love to play this for some reason. ITS THE BEST SONG EVER!!!!
Randall your music is so good ive already played 4 of your pieces and they're so good your pieces are my favorite never stop making music I hope you see this and bless everyone with your music.
I was scrolling through concert band songs and I discovered this piece. Hearing how good it is I pestered my band teacher about it and we got to play it! Got to play it at a music festival and for our final year end concert. I'm excited to pester my band teacher again for the full symphony next year!
I played this song when I was in 7th grade and it’s just one of those songs you never get tired of. It’s one of those songs that leaves you wanting more. I play alto sax but I played flute at the time and the flute part is amazing. I especially like the low sounds part as well. Amazing song!
Hello, Mr. Standridge! I am a trumpet player in my school's wind ensemble, and after hearing the intermediate band play this piece, I looked further into it. This is quite a piece of music! It has a degree of simplicity, and yet nothing is missing. The melodies are catchy, the harmonies are well-written, and the piece does an excellent job of painting a mental picture in one's head. Particularly ingenious is the F horn part during the 'first strain' ;) something about the horn line works wonders for the piece. All in all, a very good tune that can be played at the intermediate level! Thank you!
i played this in 8th grade. im 19 now, and it feels like im going back home when I play this. me and my friends used to all sing our respectove parts and make an ensemble at lunch. this song has touched so many children, and formed so many memories. truly a beautiful piece, and the definitition of what music should be

MR STANDRIDGE!!! HOW DO YOU MANAGE A MELODY, COUNTER MELODY, AND COUNTER COUNTER MELODY ALL AT THE SAME TIME WITH THE MOST BEAUTIFUL BLEND AT 2:15!!!! I am jealous of your composing ability.
This was probably my favorite music piece when i was in 8th grade band. I am promoting into high school soon and listening to this one last time made me burst into tears
Randall I absolutely love this piece a lot seriously I'm in highschool band right now and I carry the bass section as a baritone sax, and let me tell you boy I tell you what I love when our band director chooses songs with a heavy bass because It took me a few years to work my way up to baritone sax and I absolutely love it, we had a Barnum and Bailey's piece and our band director loved it because of how powerful I carried it, I am the only one in bass so I take a lot of responsibility
Randall Standridge I dont know if you will see my comment or not but I just want to say you inspire me to become a musician and I already made a contest march song like this called March of the Republic and I'm 15 so thank you for inspiring me
So we have Afterburn on our list of songs. Today, my band teacher told us to learn about the composer. We were supposed to figure out where he was born, where he teaches now, and how many music companies work with him. Then, we choose one of his songs and tell why, if we had to choose, we should play this one. I was going to do something I had never heard of, but this name stuck out to me. Three years ago (7th grade), we had played this. I remembered nearly every note I, as a percussionist, had to play on Bells. I look down the list and see this. I legit threw my arms behind me in shock. My task now is to explain why we should play it. Having played it for two years total (yeah, we played it in 8th grade, too), I can make a great case telling my 10th grade band teacher why we should TOTALLY play this!
where do i begin, my pookie bear Randall Standbridge, ever since I layed my eyes on this piece of music, I couldnt help but think about you, and when i do think of you, i can only edge for a few seconds before releasing it and boy oh boy i need an entire dump truck to contain my load when i think of you. Love you Randall!!
Doing lake of sorrows, dragon lord, march, the symphony and darkheart rn and i gotta say ty for keeping my part (chimes and mallets) busy af most purcussionists barely get any interesting parts! Its very fun to play!!
Mr. Standridge, thank you for this piece! My friend recommended this piece to our band director because they played this song at a band clinic and he absolutely loved it. This got us a 1 on stage!
I remember playing this song some 7 years ago in band. Still young now, but boy was I a little guy then. We all loved this song so much. The band teacher accidentally called it "Declans march" one day (my name) and from then on we called it Declans march. Was my absolute favorite
Thank you, Declans. Maybe you made such an impression that he thought you should have music named after you. *fist bump*. Thank you for the kinds words!
Mr. Standridge, may I just say, I played this in seventh grade back in 2017, and I believe this is one catchy piece of music, because I find myself humming it to this day. I played the second clarinet part, and I had a blast playing it at our ISSMA Festival performance. Really catchy song.
9ty grade Wind Symphony clarinetist here! Played this song in 8th grade and my band teacher pulled this piece out for 9th too and I love it! So much fun to play!
Randall. dark ride was the best piece u made. (trombome could have been louder and a faster tempo) thank you for making dark ride im deeply obessed with it.
We played this for a big high school band competition to see how our band is rated, and we got a 93.something (out of 100, rating us as superior.) So.. yeah. Thanks for lending us your amazing song!
My school is playing all 5 songs from the series darklands march, darklands legends dance of the mad prince, serpent and the black bell and the queens mask and darkheart. Personally my favorite would have to be darkheart then the march and so on. I can't seem to find the legends on TH-cam but my teacher found it somewhere but I don't know how and were he found it but I got it in April and playing it on May 12 and that's not really a long time to practice but I think we can do it and I as well played Trumpet but use to play snare and base drum
The handy dandy randy standy bandy warmup has changed lives (also all my band friends love your pieces! We even got to play shockwave pt 1,2, & 3 in band comp this year and all the pieces are super fun!)
I played this for my honor band performance, I’ve been listening to this for months and it’s still one of my favorite pieces of music I have ever listened to. I also really like Fragile from the unbroken project
i play snare drum and im starting to get the hang of this song, its so well done and sounds amazing, me and my friend do awesome playing this piece, thank you :)
I Really love this piece its amazing!!!!! im in 7th grade and we just started working on it and We all already love it!!!!It sounds so amazing and i'm so grateful to know about such a wonderful composer such as yourself Mr.Standridge!and btw I play flute and was in all county band last week!It would be great to hear back from you!!!!-Thanks!.
Every time we had to play something else, we would like the pieces but not as much as this one. When our band teacher walked in, we’d all play Darklands March jus to convince him to put it in our concert. I seriously love this piece

our band is playng the entire darklands symphony my favorite is dance of the mad prince(i play baritone)

Try it on 2x speed and imagine your band trying to play it like that
Honestly with half of my band we could play it pretty fast... when we went to perform the conductor told us to slow down.
Arnab Chowdhury thank you for that!
With my band this year....Nooo......
1.25x for the Russian version
I would just not play it then too fast for my fingers to go on my instrument.
Love this song a another bop from Mr Randall D Standridge
We're playing this for our Spring concert
And mpa
I remember playing this in 7th grade as flute. I loved the song so much that i had it memorized completely only a few weeks after receiving it

I played this for my honor band performance, I’ve been listening to this for months and it’s still one of my favorite pieces of music I have ever listened to. I also really like Fragile from the unbroken project

Every time we had to play something else, we would like the pieces but not as much as this one. When our band teacher walked in, we’d all play Darklands March jus to convince him to put it in our concert. I seriously love this piece
I played 1st trumpet and I LOVED it. This is my favorite song to play, along with Canto which is fun to play too
