The Unsellables - From Season 1 Episode 14 "Jack and Amy": Despite its many high-end upgrades, Jack and Amy’s sprawling suburban home has been on the market for over a month without an offer.
In order to give it wider appeal and the luxury feel it lacks, Sofie comes up with a $4,500 plan.
With more houses than they need and concerned prices are about to drop, the couple agrees to do whatever it takes to sell the property. And as Anthony and the team improve the home’s curb appeal, neutralize the wall colors, and update the fixtures and furniture, Sofie teaches Jack and Amy the importance of giving every room a clear function.
The Unsellables - After tracking down the most unsightly and ‘unsellable’ listings on the market, The Unsellables team attempts to transform real estate lemons into lemonade. Can the fearless crew get these desperate homeowners to get smart, let go of the past, and prepare for a sale?

IMO, the living/dining was awkward with the cut-out wall. I'm not sure if that could be removed, but it certainly made a possibly spacious area feel tight.

  • @virginiasoskin9082

After watching just 15 seconds I thought, it's the paint. Neutralize the colors. Red makes people energized, that is why fast food place interiors are often red. It makes ppl eat more quickly to vacate tables for more people. To paint a room red means people will not be able to relax and spend time there. This is basic color theory and it is amazing how few people understand it. Pistachio and grape and red? No wonder ppl turn away and run. NEUTRALIZE your wall colors prior to putting a house up for sale, or do it when you move in to avoid having to repaint prior to selling. Otherwise a lovely home but few ppl want to put out $3000 to have a house interior painted before they even move in, so do it prior to putting up your home for sale and that way you sell more quickly and minimize your angst when it takes months to sell. Otherwise, put a clause in the sales agreement that the sellers provide a painting allowance and take that off the purchase price. This is often done for carpeting too. You can either spend the money and paint or have the cost deducted from your asking price.

I think it all depends on your family and your lifestyle. We have six kids, and we love having people over. We have a living room, a family room, a bonus room, a dining room, and an eat in kitchen. We very specifically looked for a house with all that, and we use all those spaces. My sister in law has two kids and had her house built to be open concept with over large space to serve all those functions, and she regrets it.

I once rented an apartment and had to paint, as the colors made we want to slash my wrists. I painted all the rooms cream with white trim. Previously, two rooms were painted orange and two were turquoise with all the trim painted a band aid pink. I usually avoid painting but this hideous color scheme was too much to bear. My house is painted soft colors, not screaming loud ones that would make the eyeballs bleed. It was news to this couple that their colors are unbearable and they were so surprised. 😅

Spanish people love color & tend to paint their houses inside & out a mismatch of bright colors that are overwhelming to others. Then this couple doesn’t understand why their house didn’t sell. Potential buyers want a move in ready house Not a house that the walls have to be primed to tone down the color to be able to paint

After watching the video for the first minute, my initial thought was that there were too many different and obnoxious colors. The whole house needs to be painted, and that takes a lot of time, or if you hire someone, a lot of money. Also the kitchen is tiny, and the home's layout is poor. And, where is the landscaping? If their real estate agent wasn't so clueless, she should have pointed these things out to the homeowners. These people have very bad taste.

    • @thehungrygoldfish

Chances are that it’s structural and there are outlets and light switches on that wall so there’s electricity which means wiring that’s needs to be removed and it needs to be moved elsewhere, so it’s minimum 5k to 10k to remove and reinforce it and that’s not including the electrical costs! That’s a lot of money to pay when you’re selling that you will not get back. And it’s not the type of work they usually do with the makeovers. And it’s higher than their typical budget of 3 to 4k.

After reading comments am glad I am not only one who thought after colors almost as bad as before. Too dark. A light gray, sage green or variations of off white and beige would be better. Still HATE the layout. People need to remember if they are putting a lot of personal preferences into building they better be prepared to remodel. No children?? Why such a big space which they proceeded to chunk up into small spaces?? BIGGER fewer bedrooms would have helped. The gym room better as an office. They seem they would be better in an industrial type loft in a Soho type area or an artsy area where everyone goes wild with colors etc. T h at retaining wall? Wow. Some DIY is better left to experienced handyman.
