    I feel incredibly lucky that I found you. I only suffered a few months before I confidently started HRT. I tried 3 female OB/GYNs who refused to prescribe it for me. Finally went to a FP who was happy to let me assume the risks and present my own risk-benefit ideas and prescribed just as I preferred: the patch and Mirena IUD. I AM SO THANKFUL I WON'T HAVE TOO MUCH GAP BTW MY own estrogen and starting HRT. Thank you for your dedication to serving women ! Yesterday I went to have a bone density test and the technician asked me if I worked in the medical field because of facts I mentioned about menopause and all these facts I've learned watching these videos. Dr Taylor is the Menopause Whisperer. Although in some videos I have to think about that saying, don't shoot the messenger because I don't like some of the facts she mentions but in the end I'm very thankful that she doesn't sugarcoat anything and says what we need to hear which is the truth because in the end this education is so powerful not only for women in general and not only those facing and going through all these changes. I've talked about her to all my friends and family. Sadly many of them dont take me that serious either because they think they're too young or because they're ignorant in the subject and think they know better.

My general practcioner started me at the lowest level and he admitted that he didn't have a lot of experience so I switched to my gynecologist who increased my dosage twice and I'm now taking the minimum level per your chart. I feel much better. I also decided to exercise in the mornings if I wake up early. I used to sleep 8 hrs before and now I'm sleeping 6 or 7 hrs. The exercise makes me feel better as well. I’m 64 and had initially done bioidentical hormone creams during the first couple years of menopause, then stopped because of “lowest dose for shortest time”. Last year I found out I have osteoporosis, so I asked to go back on hormones. Again, the bioidentical cream from a compounding pharmacy - Estradiol .75mg, ,Estriol 3 mg, Testosterone 2.5 mg - daily. After a year I got a blood test - the doctor asked if I had actually been using the cream as directed. Yes, every day, I said! She said that my hormone levels were so flat it looked like I wasn’t doing anything. 😐 I wish I knew 15 years ago what I’m learning now!

    When you say that exercise is equal to estrogen in it’s ability to prevent a heart attack, does this mean that exercise can prevent the specific changes in the blood vessels that appear with estrogen deficiency? I think inflammation is one of them - changes in the inner lining of the blood vessels…
    I guess what I’m asking is - can exercise “replace” estrogen (in a sense), in the cardiovascular system, if it’s ability to prevent a heart attack is equal to that of estrogen?
    Would love to learn about this. Thank you! 🌸

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Exercise is exercise. A hormone is a hormone. They will never do one another's job.
      What I'm saying is that exercise can prevent a heart attack in its own way. It is not doing so in a way that is identical to the way estrogen prevents a heart attack. In medical lingo, we say that they have "different mechanisms of action."
      So they can ultimately both accomplish the goal, but they will not do so in the same way.

    • @MenopauseTaylor

      Men never lose all their testosterone. If they did, they would have the same consequences.

    Thank you, Dr Taylor - for all your good info. Can you tell us please - how does estrogen cause a heart attack if you start late and already have arterial damage? • @MenopauseTaylor

      It's not that estrogen causes the heart attack. It's that, if you've gone for a long time without estrogen, you're already at high risk for a heart attack. This would be true whether you took estrogen or not. And, if you do have a heart attack, you will probably blame the estrogen (because that's what people tend to do).

    Hi Dr. Taylor, thanks for great explanation. as mentioned i know hrt wont prevent these 3 diseases. When starting peri-menopause the lipids tend to start fluctuating.
    My question is how can we get a good baseline to make sure the heart is good with no artery blockage or as a baseline before starting Hrt- should we request from Obgyn? Alot of times they wont do these tests unless you complain of pain etc

    • @MenopauseTaylor

      You can get a lipid blood panel (Cholesterol, Triglycerides, etc.) from any kind of doctor. And you need it annually in order to know how well you are preventing plaque build-up in your heart arteries.

    You state that estrogen does NOT replace bone loss. Then, what would be the best medication to REPLACE bone loss? Among calcitonin and the non-hormonal medications you mentioned previously, which of these medications stands out as showing better results than the others in terms of rebuilding bone that was lost? ( I fully realize that there are many factors to take into consideration in order to decide on what is best for an individual person and I will not make my decision just based on this answer alone, but I was just wondering about when it comes to that one issue of rebuilding lost bone- what medication has shown the best results for that one particular issue of capacity for rebuilding lost bone?) Thank you.

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Estrogen PREVENTS bone loss.
      The only options for actually replacing bone are all the bone-building medications. I presented them in the Osteoporosis unit (26 videos from # 196 - # 231).

    • @MusicFanOnline
      @MusicFanOnline 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MenopauseTaylor Thank you. Those videos are great!! I had already watched all of them before.
      But, my question was just regarding if ONE or a couple of those medications stood out among the others as showing the BEST results at rebuilding bone that was lost among what you mentioned: calcitonin, denosumab, bisphosphonates and other SERMs such as raloxifene, tamoxifen, bazedoxifene, etc. ? Which one rebuilds the most? Thank you.

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MusicFanOnline There is no such thing as "best." That's a marketing word.
      The goal is to replace bone somehow. And, if you've already lost a lot of bone, you'll likely end up utilizing all the bone-building meds. This is because bone loss is very rapid, but bone replacement is very slow.
      And most of the bone-building meds build bone for a period of time and then peter out. When they peter out. you have to switch meds in order to continue building bone.
      The great thing is that there are so many options, If you don't like one, you can try another. But don't limit your options by listening to marketers. No marketer ever tells you the whole truth and the whole story.

    • @MusicFanOnline
      @MusicFanOnline 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MenopauseTaylor Thank you so much. I completely agree about not listening to marketers. I used the word "best" for simplicity, but in my first comment I used the phrase "stands out as showing better results than the others in terms of rebuilding bone" (e.g. in the medical studies that have been published, in your experience with patients, etc.).
      Of course, I can and will continue to research these results on my own, but I asked because I value your expert opinion and knowledge, and I thought you also might add in some of your own thoughts which you DID by adding in that info about how the effect of the meds tends to peter out and then one might want to switch meds because of that. This is something that I had not really thought of, so thank you for adding that.
      I assume from your reply that there is not a medication that particularly stands out in your mind among the others as showing strongest results for building bone in medical studies, etc. You have already been so helpful, so there is no need to delve further and take up your time in the comments section. Thank you so much for your helpful replies and your fantastic videos on menopause. You are truly making the world a better place with all of your work in educating women. I’d really like to know more about how SERMs work and don’t work. What I learned was 20 years ago partly from the package insert on my Grandmother’s Fosamax, a bisphosphonate. Hey I’m a little confused @25:37 you said estrogen could cause a heart attack (when taken in the later stages of menopause after not being on it prior to that)but earlier in the video you said taking estrogen at that time would only fail to prevent a heart attack, but wouldn’t cause one. Or maybe I misunderstood things x

      This requires tailoring specifically to YOU.
      I can tell by your question that you have not watched my videos in order, because I've addressed your question in great detail several times in previous videos.
      So, if you want me to help you tailor everything about heart attack risk (or anything else) specifically to YOU, schedule a consultation with me at MenopauseTaylor.ME.
      This is precisely the kind of thing for which I do one-on-one consultations. You definitely need one. I cannot tailor things specifically to you in a comment box. It requires much more information than you can give me here, and you deserve much more information than I can give you here. No two women are alike, and addressing your situation requires tailoring all the facts specifically to YOU. I do them all via online video conferencing. You can schedule at MenopauseTaylor.ME. I look forward to meeting you and helping you.

    What specifics do you need from us BEFORE our consultation? I am in my sixth decade and you probably need start & stop dates of pre-, peri-, and post-menopause. Am I correct? (I don’t remember). My previous ob/gyn I had (moved away from) has the records. Do I need them?

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      When you schedule a consultation, you will be directed to a 17-page questionnaire that asks you all sorts of questions. And you can upload any labs or reports you wish. But you will have only 5 days to submit everything, and I will not accept or incorporate any additional information after that.
      I will create a big document (about 100 pages) with the information you provide, and send it to you 4 days BEFORE your consultation for you to read. It will make your consultation so much more productive.
      Nothing is mandatory. The key is that the more you tell me, the more I can tailor everything specifically to YOU.

    Am I an anomaly? I had slightly negative numbers for my hip and spine bone density scan (T scores) but after a year of increased estrogen and being back in the gym, my hip # stayed the same, but my spine got into the + zone again!!
    I do mostly body weight exercises & cardio. I assumed the estrogen did this. Am I wrong?

    • @cm1906
      @cm1906 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you for asking this. I have been wondering about this as well. There are studies that show increases in bone density with estradiol treatment, and it seems to be dose dependent - the higher the dosage, the more gain in bone density. I have asked two endocrinologists - one said I can expect some increase in bone density with estrogen replacement, and another one said no, it just makes sure I won’t loose any more bone. I don’t know what to believe…

    • @whoatethechocolate

      @@cm1906 I wonder how many Endocrinologist really know the answer or are merely speculating? My dexa scans are all the proof that I need I'm doing something right. I think it could be a combination of the two-- weight bearing exercise and E, but my guess would be that E is driving the progress.

      I had a dexa scan two years ago in October and it showed I had osteopenia. After going on HRT last July I had another dexa scan last October and the results showed normal bone density. I have not changed anything else. Coincidence?

    • @cm1906
      @cm1906 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@whoatethechocolate Your assessment of your bone mass increase sounds plausible to me. Great! I should probably take up some weight training. (HRT has not increased my bone density so far, and I exercise daily, but no weights.)
      In terms of endocrinologists - they actually should know the answer to this because they’re among those who treat osteoporosis. I was referred to an endocrinologist because of low bone mass. But like I said, I got two opposing answers to the question.
