This is Bobby Hatfield, one part of Righteous Brothers. They each did solos. To hear both Bobby Hatfield and Bill Medley together check out You've Lost That Loving Feeling.
"Somebody else sung this song?" Brother, EVERYBODY has sung this song. Over 600 covers since it was written in 1955. But Bobby Hatfield's version here is considered definitive by many. In any case, nobody ever sang it better, and he was always identified with it.
Actually there's some 1,500 renditions of this song. Check out Home Free who pays homage to the 1955 movie, Voice Play Austin Brown (of Home Free who does a solo rendition).
This was sung LIVE in 1965 .. no auto-tune, no lip-sync, no naked dancers, no smoke or mirrors ... just pure raw talent and blue-eyed soul ... Bobby had an amazing range of four octaves! To find out how they got their name, watch this full performance in the Andy Williams Show ... th-cam.com/video/FZZqf3AVJbE/w-d-xo.html ... enjoy! Righteous Brothers are two guys who are not actually brothers, they are a duo. But this is a solo song so they flipped a coin to see who would sing it .. this is Bobby Hatfield, and the other member of the duo was Bill Medley who arranged the music for this performance .. and he did so well with that, building up the music to the passionate end, so credit to Bill Medley too .. I also read that Bill Medley played the piano in the background for this song, and that Bobby sang this song while suffering from a head cold! This performance was done live, (with no auto-tune or other devices used by today’s musicians) and was better than the recorded studio version. Bobby suffered from stage fright and was particularly nervous in this performance because his parents were in the audience... you can see him bite his lip then grin at the end because he knew he nailed it!
While I was serving in the Air Force on the Island of Okinawa in 1971 - 72 my friends called me their blue eyed soul brother. Now at age 72 when I hear this song it reminds me of that. Thanks
That was Bobby Hatfield’s solo of the Righteous Brothers duo in Unchained melody. To hear them as a duo listen to You’ve lost that lovin’ feeling. I think it was 1965. They’re awesome!
When they first started performing together a black marine yelled out " that's righteous brothers " and that's the name they they decided to call themselves.
You get a big thumbs up 👍 for simply bringing it back 5-10 seconds after you stop it. It's amazing how many people don't know enough to do that, it makes all the difference. 😊👍
From a film called Unchained from 1954, the other brother was in the wings as he did not think it would be a hit, this is the best ever cover of this song, their name The Righteous Brothers was given to them from an audience member when doing a show down south, after the song a man shouted out that`s righteous brother and that is how they got their name, check out Soul and Inspiration, and You`ve lost that lovin' feeling. Stay safe, from UK.
This was Bobby Hatfield solo. Covered by over 670 artists but this is the man, the voice. Wait till you here Bill Medly and him together. They don’t call it blue eyed soul for nothing. Try Soul and Inspiration. You’ll love it.
Bobby sung this beautiful song in 1965. I was 15 yrs old when I saw him sing it on the Andy Williams show. This is Bobbys song! RIP Bobby! Never forgotten! ❤❤❤❤
The Righteous Brothers consist of Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield. Bobby sings this one solo. If you want to hear both of them together, check out their song “You’ve Lost that Lovin’ Feelin’.”
Not sure why so many people don't seem to understand that most duo's like the righteous brothers do have songs where one of them will sing a song SOLO, that is not an unusual thing, some songs are just meant to be sung solo and this is a perfect example. Remember how little Michael Jackson would sing a song SOLO even though he was part of the Jackson 5? Yeah, like that. The other member of the duo, Bill Medley also had songs that he sang solo as well. Anyhow yeah, no matter how many other people sang this song, it was Bobby Hatfield that not only made the song his own but he also made it what it became and one of the only songs in history to top the charts twice with 20 years in between each time it made it to the top. Rest In Peace Bobby, and thank you for leaving us with a treasure.
Bill Medley sang with him on "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" and others. This was Bobby Hatfield solo and live on the Andy Williams Show in 1965 before autotune. I was ten and was watching it with my mother. Every girl watching felt that he was singing directly to her, and every one of us fell in love.
They were both there. Not real brothers. This was an Andy Williams show & they did more than one song. It really seems to be a Valentines Day special & Bobby's parents were in the audience.
LMAO the VERY FIRST thing that popped in my mind when I saw you were going to react to this was: He's gonna ask where the other brother is! Please check out You've Lost That Loving Feeling! Stay safe and warm.
I was 16 when I watched this live on The Andy Williams Show in 1965...Bill Medley had on the same suit...Now in my 70's I still have every song they ever recorded on 78 vinyls..45's and 8 tracks....great reaction.
Believe it or not, it originally came out as the B side to some forgotten single. His studio recording was great, but this live performance on the Andy Williams show was GREAT!!! His studio recording did not have that stratospheric finale that this live recording had. Bobby really liked the acoustics in the TV set and wanted to really go for it on live TV. Bill advised against taking the risk of flubbing it on live TV. Bobby went for it anyway - the rest is history!
Born in Wisconsin, grew up in Anaheim ((very white Orange County), California. Fell in love with ""black" music he heard on a radio station he heard from LA. Bobby had a voice in a million.
This was a solo done by Bobby Hatfield on Valentines Day, the reason for the pink outfits, in 1965. It was live on the Andy Williams Show. Bobby was nervous because he had a cold plus his parents were in the audience. This by far the best version of the song which was first done in 1955 for a movie called "Unchained". It was about a black man in prison hoping his S/O would be waiting for him when he got out.
Legend is they flipped a coin right before the performance to see who would sing that night. He was nervous because his parents were seated up front watching.
Actually the coin toss was to see who would do the recording of the song so it was Bobby's song by the time they did the show. Years later Bobby was heard saying the coin toss never happened.
@@leahsweany4726 the coin toss story was one of the many frivolous stories both Bill and Bobby fabricated about why Bobby sung the song solo. They were being dry as usual. But from both Bobby and Bill interviews, especially a 1990 interview i read with Hatfield, Phil Spector wanted them each to bring in a solo song as album fillers. Bobby, who used to sing Unchained Melody with his previous band The Variations before The Righteous Brothers formed, wanted to record this favourite song of his as his solo song choice while Bill brought in a song of his choice. Bill, according to himself and Bobby, produced their version of the song, and not Spector, who only concentrated on producing their hit singles.
mst beautiful song ever.... Oh yeah this is the original guy bobby hatfield 1965 of the righteous brother ..... other bill medely ..... imagine no auto tuner or gimmicks ... just people who could actually really sing and sound the same live in person or on TV, radio or a recording..........need to check out "lost that loving feeling" by both the righteous brothers
The original was in a 1955 movie. This is a cover, but this set the standard, not the original. This is Bobby Hatfield and the other who's the baritone is Bill Medley. This is Blue Eyed Soul . They were the ones who everyone created the term for, because they got their name Righteous Brothers when they played in a black club on a marine base. No one had heard of them, and when they went on stage, the crowd was upset because they were white. The Righteous Brothers were scared and didn't know what to do, so they just started singing. Everyone in the crowd was awed by the performance that one of the marines stood up and yelled out that they were "righteous, brothers " and since they hadn't figured out what to call themselves, they took that name and the rest is written in history.
I'll just add that the movie was called _Unchained,_ hence the name of the song. It was a prison movie, hence the song's theme of loneliness and separation.
If you search for this song and add "The Andy Williams show" you will see them both joke before the song with Andy why Bobby Hatfield this gr8 singer did this song as a solo. Elvis and over 600 singers have covered this song but most people say no one can match the amazing vocals of Bobby. Also if you watched the movie "Ghost" that was the studio version. This live performance is considered the best version by far over the studio version.
Bobby's version of this song charted twice. Outstanding performance that knocks the socks off everyone who hears it male or female. Blue eyed soul in everything he sang. RIP Bobby Hatfield you are missed.
They sang together billed s The Righteous Brothers, but they also recorded separately, also billed as The Righteous Brothers.. This particular number was performed live on The Andy Williams Show in 1965; the song had already been a hit as recorded by BobbyHatfield--the guy singing it here---and the other "Brother", named Bill Medley, was standing offstage.
The singer was Bobby Hatfield and it was a solo. Bill Medley was the other. He was there just not a part of the song. At a concert some Brothers yelled to them Righteous. So it how they got the name.
They are FABULOUS! But for just sheer beauty, I would tell everyone to hear "If I Ruled The World" by Bobby. Sit back close your eyes and listen to Heaven.

It doesn't say here but the song was written for a1955 film called Unchained, a prison film where a man is waiting for his release and is worried his wife would not be there for him when he got out in a couple of months. It was sung in that film by a Black Opera Singer but the late Bobby Hatfield's version is the greatest and many others have tried (some 620 covers I think) including Elvis and NO ONE has come close to this rendition. 🇦🇺🇦🇺😷😷

It was sung in that film by a Black Opera Singer but the late Bobby Hatfield's version is the greatest and many others have tried (some 620 covers I think) including Elvis and NO ONE has come close to this rendition.
