Be advised that costco warranty is rotation with them every 5k miles. Needed new tires after two years all had very even wear but very worn. Costco would not honor because I did not have them rotated with them. DT does not have this requirement.
Discount will always match price. Discount has more flexibility to help people out in different ways working with price. I could keep going. Costco is my favorite store but I’m married to a discount Manger. He has been with the company sense high school and I can’t say enough good stuff about them as a company. Great video.
Katlyn, thank you for taking the time to watch the video and comment. I agree completely with your statement. I recently purchased a new car in December and bought a winter wheel and tire setup from my local Discount Tire after making this video. I think both companies have many positives to them and it really depends on specific situations on why people may choose one over the other. Thank you again for watching.
Totally agree both companies have great things to offer. When I talked to my husband he thinks If you have the membership card with percentage back it applies to tires too witch it’s a plus for them. Glad DCT got you set up for winter.
I will say, Costco does not charge for installation of tires and discount tires does. Also their rates for disposal of tires and extra fees are a bit higher unfortunately. Thank you for the video! I'm going to go with Costco....Here in California, discount tires is closed on Sundays, Costco is not so if my tire blows out on a Sunday, atleast Costco is open lol. They're also open for similar hours.
I've got a Costco membership and still went with Discount Tire. They price match, the certificates are optional and if used they won't prorate or charge extra for replacing your tire. Plus how many Costco's do you come across when traveling? I see Discount tires all the time driving across state in large cities and small towns.
Thanks, discount is literally in front of Costco parking lot. I’ve always used discount and have been happy but it seems like right now Costco might be the best fit for my tire purchase due to price. I feel warranty and coverage is about the same when factoring in the certificate cost.
Been a Discount Tire customer for over 15yrs, when weren’t a lot stores available and IMO they were much better back then. Nowadays all they be doing is up selling rims… for some reason tires loose pressure because rims need to be replace 😒
I bought a set of Michelin Defenders T+H from Cosco in Jan 2022. Just brought them back in for another rotation with 31k miles, and they put the wrong tires (Michelin X tour A/S) on the vehicle in the first place. Now they say they cannot warranty them because they are not the correct tire. I have all receipts. They are straight up scamming people.
Costco is trash for tires. First the guys at the Costco tire center have a shaft up their ass with the 'better than thoi' attitude! Second, have an issue ..good luck getting Costco to fix it! Recently bought 4 Michelin tires from Costco that turned out to be 'out of round'.. Back and forth, and the didn't do squat and blamed my suspension! (Even after showing them a perfectly fine suspension diagnostic sheet from my Lexus dealer ).. Had to basically take a $1300 loss on 6 month old tires with about 6k miles.. Whole family's been a Costco member for almost 30 yrs but never getting tires from there again!!
Discount tire will price match and guarantee best out the door price. Also, discount tire automatically includes pro rated road hazard coverage on any tire purchased from them. Certificates are optional, but will get you 100% credit for the tire in a road hazard/defect situation.
I purchased the certificates, and it is really good. Ive replaced the tires three times because of tear for free. This is why i only purchase the tires from discount tire
not true. from my experience, costco covers the thread wear due to misalignment. American tires doesn't. That's the big difference right there. Also Costco covers until 45000 miles regardless of any circumstances....that includes thread completely wearing out.
Like you mentioned, one big drawback is the Costco tire selection is really limited to just a few high end tires. They make up for it in a big way by not charging for all the BS. But still, if you just need cheep tires you are out of luck at Costco. Sam's Club has a wider price spread.
Discount tire certificates are for 10 years and down to 2/32 that’s the whole life of the tire. It counts for the first 30 days either way and they have a normal road hazard that doesn’t cost any extra. Discount also beats prices and will make sure they give you a deal even if you can’t afford tires. They always make sure you’re safe and taken care of
Good luck with Costcos warranty and/or repairs. Unless you schedule flat tires a week in advance they can’t help you. Claim to be too busy. Tire selection is very limited as well.
An issue that really irks me that you said is that Discount Tire certificates are only 3 years down to 3/32. That is completely false. Birth certificates are 10 years down to 2/32 that is really big misinformation
Costco all the way. Costco gives you the manufacturer’s rebate up front, instead of waiting 4-6 months for a mail in rebate. Sure they don’t have lots of selections, but Michelin, Bridgestone, and Firestone are all great brands. Why pay more for a “certificate”? Why pay more for warranty? Why wait bored while you can shop for deals at Costco?
Certificates are optional. You don’t have to buy them, and if you do buy them and need to use one, you didn’t have to pay for the coverage on the new tire, it just won’t be covered. Discount will beat any price. Personally, I’m not going to go to a grocery store to buy tires. Not their market
I've only read a couple comments so I'm sure some people got to this but just in case they did not for locations it is not a wash between Costco and Discount tire they are easily 10 times more discount tires and a given Metro area then there are Costco's if not 10 it'll be 5 or 3 times as many it's a lot more and if you have a flat and you can limp a few miles to get to a discount tire you're golden. Secondly as far as the certificates or replacement it's cool to Costco that there replacement road hazard is for 5 years but it's prorated based on that wear and that lifetime at Discount tire to my knowledge and based on my use of certificates and tires over the years it obviously is a 100% replacement regardless of the tradeware down to the 3/32nd limit That's why they stop a little bit earlier but you leave that out as if it's almost a wash in that since it's not because 5 years prorated down to the 232nd of an inch will be a sliding scale on which at some point the discount tire will actually exceed and be better and the one thousand or 30 seconds of an inches going to be very hard to bicker over they can find a place to make it be past limit. For anybody trying to decide and not having used either or both or whatever I have Costco membership for decades and I get all my tires at Discount tire I was just online looking to order from Costco I still couldn't convince myself to do it with the lower amount of centers. They want to sell the tire at exactly the same price as what it was at Discount tire anyway they're not cheap or tires but the services that they offer you they will not follow up on for the most part they are looking to say something's wrong with your car and they will send you off and not want to back it discount tire has always been absolutely excellent and they don't do suspension working if not pawned me off if they pointed out to something's wrong and suspension it was
Discount tire routinely over inflates tires so they wear out quicker. Drove in TMS working they said I needed new ones told them they were working when I drove in they better fix them back like they were they did. Five finger Discount alright. They also said free to fix nail hole which they did not fix.
Certificates are optional at Discount Tire and they also include the free pro-rated Rd Hazard for the life of the tire. Also, the price from Costco didn’t include the installation or sales tax. Do your homework to get an accurate comparison!
You are correct of course. The certificates are optional, but Costco covers the tire exactly the same as the certificates without an extra cost. I showed the receipt from Costco, that was with tax and install. I do encourage everyone to do their HW though, as DT definitely does beat Costco on tires often.
Discount tire does honor their certificates after three years they are optional to buy. Costco has Michelin, Bridgestone, and BF Goodrich, and firestone. Firestone is owned by Bridgestone, and BF Goodrich is owned by Michelin. Costco does 20 billion sales in tires each year so much so that both Michelin and Bridgestone have a division just for Costco. They make their tires custom just for Costco and the volume is where they get the price point. But you’re still paying for the road hazard warranty with Costco. And I had one tire go bad on my car and Discount Tire replaced it no questions asked and no pro-rating like Costco
But the difference is when you have to replace your tires at discount tires you will pay probably $25 for each tire what it's about 100 more dollars at Costco you going to have to pay the full price all over again for new tires because they do not offer warranties on their tires so you got to look at it like that
I did my own research and discovered Discount Tire offers the same prorated road hazard as Costco and it’s free. The certificate program offers you a 100% replacement of your tire. Purchasing the certificate is optional btw. Kinda misleading to say the least. But this is a bias opinion of course. This gentleman bought his tires from Costco. Why would he tell the TH-cam world he screwed up? Please don’t take my word for it. All this info is on the website. Happy informed shopping
I've never bought tires from SAMS/BJ's or Cosco. But I've gotten tires from mostly, Discount Tire and a couple times, Belle Tire. My most RECENT experience has left me very disappointed in DT. Ordered a set of tires last week. Though they were to show up on that Friday, I scheduled an appointment for the following Monday. Showed up, tech comes back and says, "tires haven't arrived, could I come back". WHAT? There on lunch break and they want me to come back? Nope. Canceled the order, and refunded my money. Ordering from Belle. Sad too, I've been getting tires from DT for years on my 2 Jeeps, minivan, kids cars, etc. They call me 2 hours later. "Oh, your tires came in, do you want to schedule installation". Just felt kind of insulting. If I wanted to wait around all day or be treated like just a number, I'd gone to Costco.
But dont discount tires certificates cover the tire 100% for the life of the tire? Vs costcos prorated coverage? If the tire is at 3/32 with discount and Costco, discount would cover the full cost vs costcos proration….and the renewal of the certificate is optional, I had a blow out on my tire at 3/32nds and didn’t have my wallet and they put a tire on for free, and didn’t have to pay anything. I went back a few days later and purchased the certificate for that tire because it has saved me time and time again
So I'm curious after reading a few replies and you've gone back to discount tire after. Have you noticed any major differences with how they handle warranties? Or any reason other than price differences to switch?
I have not noticed any other reason then price to choose one over the other. At both Discount Tire and Costco I have had to replace damaged tires under their replacement programs. Both had to order the tire, so replacement took a couple of days. Discount Tire had more appointment availability though.
Discount tires have idiots that work there. I had 4 tires put on my 4 runner. They did a terrible job at balancing them. I had to get it redone and payed 50 buck more. Also at discount they put my spare back improperly. It did not fall off but it was just a matter of time. Good think that i looked. Like i said discount has people that dont want to be at work and also dont know how to do the work. When it comes to tires this is very important.
Info way off .. pro rated that costo charge you .. you get it for free from discount .. certs is a peace of mind OPTIONAL no other tire retailer offers 100% coverage to your tires like DISCOUNT.. certs are not force to purchase . .. yet you are not exactly doing a fair Comparison. I'll suggest revise your info buddy
Good video. In terms of location, Costco is all over the US whereas Discount Tire, while readily available in your neighborhood, may not be have a location everywhere in the US such as north east. Important to consider if you travel outside your region.
Let the people know that for any reason they are no longer a Costco member after purchasing tires, Costco will not honor their warranties/free services anymore. Discount tire has far more selections to choose from which is ideal for anyone who knows that’s there’s much more GREAT tires than just Goodyear, Michelin and Bridgestone. ALSO, for any one who is looking to get bigger or smaller rims and tires, Costco will not help you. They only do original specs.
Man your info here is way off! Discount also includes a pro rated road hazard free of charge with every purchase. You seem to of butchered the certificates as it eliminates any pro ration and replaces the tire and labor at no charge, renewing the certificate is optional at that point but seems to be a no brainer. Discount tire will price match and price out there and has much more availability and choices of tires. Their business is tires, that’s it. Costco wants you to spend hours in their store spending money
I do not work for Costco. I have been a DT customer for decades, and this was my first purchase of tires at Costco. I recently bought a new car and have a video of that and bought new wheels and tires from DT after I made this video.
I checked it out myself, he's definitely not uneducated on the subject. Costco is definitely a better deal. You must work for Discount Tires if that's what we are doing.
Both suck and require you to hang around for hours. Mobile tire installation is the new way to do this. They come to your house or workplace and just like that, new tires and no time taken out of your life to get it done.
How much do you pay for a Costco membership??? On average people replace tires every 3-5 years. Did you factor 3-5 years of membership into that tire price??? Don't factor that you have a Costco membership because you buy groceries there year round. Tire for tire, DTC is the winner hands down. Don't factor certificates into price either, at DTC you get free pro rated coverage for the life of the tire if you don't buy certificates.
So everyone will always have to factor the Costco membership price in. I’ve been a Costco member for years, and would pay the membership regardless. A perk of that is the tires there can be less expensive. I think both companies offer a great value. In a few cases, Costco is the better value for tires. Not always of course, but if your main objective is to save money on tires and you already are a Costco member, Costco can beat DT at times. I have found Costco to fully replace a tire at no additional cost, where DT would only pro rate the tire and explain to me for full replacement I need to purchase replacement certificates.
Discount tire price matches no matter what and certificates are for the life of the tire or 10 years down to 2/32 nd. Just as Costco’s warranty you pay for. Get educated and do your research before you buy please. I’m sorry DT couldn’t put your tires on.
Taken directly from Discount Tires Website:HOW DOES THE CERTIFICATE WORK? If a tire covered by the Certificate for Repair, Refund or Replacement fails due to a defect or a non repairable road hazard, and still has legal tread (3/32") remaining across the tire, and it has been in use less than 3 years from date of purchase, Discount Tire will give a refund of the full purchase price, together with the applicable sales tax and give you the option to purchase the same new or comparable tire at the refund price, with the payment of any applicable sales tax. There is no prorating, no disqualification for any reason such as run-on damage and no mileage adjustment. It is the very best tire certificate program we know of.
Taken directly from Costco Website: Road Hazard Warranty All passenger, performance and light truck tires sold through Costco Wholesale are covered by a 5-year Road Hazard Warranty*Footnote One protecting customers against tread wear damage and tire failure. Costco Wholesale will repair or replacey**Footnote Twotires damaged during standard legal vehicle operation. For complete details download the Costco Road Hazard Warranty *Return to Content Warranty is subject to proper Tire Care. **Return to Content Replacement tires will be provided in the form of credit toward purchase, determined by remaining tread analysis.
Costco did not honor my warranty, they stated my tires needed aligning yet never mentioned that the many times I went to get my tires rotated. They are thieves!
It's highly reccomend to get an alignment every time you get new tires. If you don't know that, it's your fault. It's also in the paperwork that they give you that if you don't rotate your tires or you have alignment/suspension problems then it voids your warranty. Not their job to check your alignment as that service is not provided at Costco. Also alignment tread wear may have not been present at the time of the rotations. And when it is noticed, it's too late. Getting an alignment won't preserve them once they have alignment wear.-costco tire employee
**Recommended to get your alignment checked.** If it's not out of alignment, no change needed. They should have checked during rotations but he's right. Once your tires are worn from suspension or alignment issues, you can't reverse the damage.
Discount once gave me a free spare tire when I told them I was unemployed and could not afford one. They said its ok we dont want you without a spare.
Be advised that costco warranty is rotation with them every 5k miles. Needed new tires after two years all had very even wear but very worn. Costco would not honor because I did not have them rotated with them. DT does not have this requirement.

If you have a weird car that takes a weird unpopular tire size then discount tire is a win period.
Costco is trash for tires. First the guys at the Costco tire center have a shaft up their ass with the 'better than thoi' attitude! Second, have an issue ..good luck getting Costco to fix it! i'm buying new tires for my car from costco when they have their $150 off a set of 4 bridgestone tires
An issue that really irks me that you said is that Discount Tire certificates are only 3 years down to 3/32. That is completely false. Birth certificates are 10 years down to 2/32 that is really big misinformation
Concise, informative, little emotion, bravo! People don't understand points change over time so don't pick the guy apart.
Costco all the way. Costco gives you the manufacturer’s rebate up front, instead of waiting 4-6 months for a mail in rebate.

Drove in TMS working they said I needed new ones told them they were working when I drove in they better fix them back like they were they did. Five finger Discount alright. They also said free to fix nail hole which they did not fix.
ain’t no way this a competition… discount tire reigns supreme…
Certificates are optional at Discount Tire and they also include the free pro-rated Rd Hazard for the life of the tire. Also, the price from Costco didn’t include the installation or sales tax. Do your homework to get an accurate comparison!
You are correct of course. The certificates are optional, but Costco covers the tire exactly the same as the certificates without an extra cost. I showed the receipt from Costco, that was with tax and install. I do encourage everyone to do their HW though, as DT definitely does beat Costco on tires often.
His receipt showed install dummy
My certificate cost 11 bucks a tire ha and it’s sooo worth it!
Ya had me at $280 difference, advantage Costco. Thanks for the video
But the difference is when you have to replace your tires at discount tires you will pay probably $25 for each tire what it's about 100 more dollars at Costco you going to have to pay the full price all over again for new tires because they do not offer warranties on their tires so you got to look at it like that
Discount tire price matches
Thanks for sharing the comparison, very helpful.
Discount now charges $50 for the certificates.
I think it might be different for location or tire because my Michelin tires that they quoted me are 28.75 per tire certification
I went back a few days later and purchased the certificate for that tire because it has saved me time and time again
do you know how return process works in DT?i mean 30 day return policy, are replacing them back with your old tires and refund?
You can't really return tires. They will prorate them period to get you into another tire that you might like
Does Costco install the tire for you for free? U just need to make an appointment? Or can you just walk in?
40 50 60 k they got it down to a science, don't need the gimmicks. Tire price and install is all you need, you'll never see them again.
Thanks for the video brother! I was debating on which one you helped me make a decision thanks
If you gsve a nail puncture, pray for your service at COSTCO.
Because you may have to go home with the flat and wait for your appointment.
thank you sir
Discount tires have idiots that work there. I had 4 tires put on my 4 runner. They did a terrible job at balancing them. I had to get it redone and payed 50 buck more. Discount Tires will price match as well.
for free if you purchase the certificate, yes
Why are you being dishonest???
Had to give you a like for this one
Thank you for sharing
Good video. In terms of location, Costco is all over the US whereas Discount Tire, while readily available in your neighborhood, may not be have a location everywhere in the US such as north east. Important to consider if you travel outside your region.

This dude is not very educated on discount tires policies. He probably works at Costco tbh
I just used Chinese cheap tires
Costco is great EXCEPT their tire shop which SUCKS!
Costco tires are expensive go to big brand tires overseas tires cheaper.
People seem to be really passionate about discount tire 😂
ÂWÊSÔMÊ JÔB!!!... THÂNKS!!!
sorry brother cant hear you at all
Here's my review of buying tires at Costco vs. Discount Tire.
Costco = Sucks 👎👎👎
Discount Tires = Awesome!!!!👍👍👍

Notice on Costco it is included on all tires purchased. It is not an additional fee.
**Recommended to get your alignment checked.**
If it's not out of alignment, no change needed.
They should have checked during rotations but he's right. Once your tires are worn from suspension or alignment issues, you can't reverse the damage.
I discount tire 🛞 because they have lots brand to choose
