Since Vi did plan and lead the robbery which resulted in the destruction of a building, I wouldn't say she was "wrongfully" locked away.
She really was the culprit Piltover was looking for, even if Marcus did not charge her for it to hide her (continuing) existence to Silco. (only officially though. I'm sure his solving this case for the council was among the reasons he became sheriff).

The Lucas non-lethal special was severing limbs. While it had its thematic line in the original trilogy to show Luke becoming Vader, elsewhere the existence of perfect prosthesis made it just as inconsequential. That's why Qui Gon had to die: To bring back stakes. Ever since Disney took over, severed limbs are deemed too gory, so they had to go with gut shots instead. And since it's Disney, nobody dies because they can't lose the potential sales later on.

In my opinion expecting the audience to watch other shows to know who the characters are here is a problem (not the only one, but it is a big one). I don't regularly watch Disney Star Wars so I don't know who 99.9% of the characters are, and the creators just expect us to keep up with whatever BS they put on the screen. Luke, Han, Leia and a group of underdogs travelled the galaxy to fight the Empire in the original trilogy. These planks of wood just stare at each other or engage in crap lightsaber fights.

Filoni is hailed as a messiah of SW but, Clone Wars was only directed by him. Then Rebels, a worse show, had him given more control. Then, a live action show, where he is running the show is putting him at his worst. Animation also gives creators a bit of a guise to hide behind. Now, there is no guise.
The acting does not help. I don't get why Rosario Dawson is portraying Ahsoka as an emotionally devoid monk and Sabine's actor is just dead in the eyes it seems.
But the writing does not lend itself to helping the actors at all. The characters aren't anything like they were in Rebels, makes me wonder if Filoni even remembers the characters from his show.
I think Disney must've told the production "this show needs to be watchable to everyone no matter how much star wars they've seen" - hence the characters are all written out of dirt

I feel what Disney was trying to do with Sabine is set up her character in a Stoic/post war frame. The problem is with her (in my view) they think stoicism is acting emotionless (cool/edgy) to everything, even to other people and their situation.
Good written stoic/post war characters have endure hardship (possibly traumatic hardship) and yes they may struggle to adapt but underneath they remember what it was like before the hardship and they want to feel that way again, and in some cases make a valiant effort to adapt despite emotional pain or fear.
I never got that from Sabine. She just struck me as a moody teenager trying to be cool/edgy. Just being passive aggressive or sullen to Ashoka instead of expressing any emotion whatsoever.

I like to think that Filoni can actually be a good writer so long as he is given clear boundaries to work within. Runtime limitations on Clone Wars let them tell arcs in an anthology format. Budget limitations on Rebels forced them to make the visuals more stylized and focus on character beats for story over spectacle. Hell even budget limits on first season of Mando forced them to stick to a specific genre and its tropes to succeed. With later shows and especially with Ahsoka he's got too much money, time, and creative liberty that the entire thing melts down.

  • @bluelanternguardianangel8038

Its amazing just how unbelievable lazy these writers and directors are when it comes to the multimillion dollar productions. I just typed in "fan lightsaber duels" into TH-cam and there are thousands of videos of random people with really good choreography
Hell one of those videos was a guy giving out tips on how to film a lightsaber duel. He says dont aim for the opponents lightsaber cuz thats a rookie mistake and its boring. There needs to be an attacker, a defender, a reaction and a reverse. *Show* that these are skilled warriors by having them adapt to each others fighting style, looking for that one single opening that can turn the tide of the fight. Instead we get children whacking each other with plastic sticks
If i had to take a stab at it (pun fully intended) and I HAD to their story beats, I would've wrote something like this:
Sabine figures out what the map is (even though a child could figure that out) and the droids attack. She fights them off but is overwhelmed with numbers and they had the element of surprise. They steal the map but before the droids could kill her, she whips out lightsaber in a surprise attack, destroying 2 droids but the third escapes. Sabine runs outside and sees it entering a ship and the ship starts to go up, attempting to leave the atmosphere. Sabine, without thinking, jumps onto the ship and holds on to dear life. She begins to hack the ship with the lightsaber before blondie jumps out and engages her in a duel. They can barely stand and swinging is dangerous to both but theyre desperate to get rid of the other. Sabine manages to cut a large gash before blondie gets an idea and does one of two things. I could go Lucas style and have blondie straight up cut off the arm sabine is using to hold on to the ship, but this is Disney star wars now so they can only get really big boo-boos lol so blondie cuts the bit of the ship that sabine is holding onto the ship. As sabine falls she is flailing about cuz she is completely out of options. Thats when Ahsoka come in with her ship and catches sabine her wing, but the wind is knocked out of her.
Suddenly the blonde's ship does a 180 and fires onto Ahsoka, forcing her to do evasive maneuvers but this leads to Sabine falling off again. Now ahsoka has a choice; let sabine fall but take down the enemy ship, or disengage and save her padawan. Ahsoka hesitates only for a second but dives for her apprentice, eventually using the force to slow her fall before landing on the ground
The next morning sabine wakes up, battered and bruised but alive. While they did suffer a defeat, sabine points out that the ship they're using cant be used for space travel. They would either have it repaired or they would have to find another ship, which means theyre still on planet and they can start their search from there.
Im not a professional writer (but i am willing to learn lol) and that wasnt my best but at least i made an effort to at least make it sense

It's even worse bc the Ahsoka/Sabine relationship it's something created for the show, they never interacted in Rebels, Filoni made Sabine Ahsoka's padawan out of nowhere, and didn't even bother to explain their fall out, it's just there to create some artificial drama but it doesn't work bc we know nothing about their past, yeah we've known Ahsoka for +15 years and Sabine has her fair amount of development in Rebels but watching those other shows has no value here, every new D+ show (especially the ones from Filoni) proves his lack of storytelling skills, turning a really interesting idea (A Mandalorian being trained by a Jedi) into one of the most bland, hollow and boring relationships in the whole franchise, seems like he forgets to writte a story and starts playing with his favorite action figures.

I really think Ahoska is just Dave Filonis way of using all his characters from each show he's made but the show falls flat once an actual fan of Rebels and Clone Wars watches it cause Disney still wants people who never watched both shows to watch Ahoska so the writers had to sorta write to please the fans of Rebels and Clone Wars by using all these cameos and call bakcs and also write to please non fans by having epic fights, and these writers just weren't up to the task. the Mandalorian is so good cause of its simplicity, just cool dad in armor being a badass with other cool guys in armor who are also badasses also they don't take the show to seriously cause theres no big characters that are cruical to later its in a self contained story, but Dave Filoni with Ahoska tried to eat everything he put on his plate but his eyes were bigger then his stomach and couldn't fit it in.

I have heard some dumb arguments about why getting stabbed by a lightsaber wouldn't be that big of an issue.
Top of the list is that it cauterizes the wound. Now at surface level I can understand the argument but we're not talking about a hot knife, we're talking about something that turns metal into liquids instantly, it would vaporize anything it touches, and don't get me started on the expansion rate of water/blood.
The second dumbest argument I hear is "oh the blade is contained by a magnetic field so it only cuts what enters the blades space," or something to that effect. Ignoring the fact that whatever does get stabbed is still getting vaporized, a slight wiggle or flick of the wrist and now that stab wound is 6 inches wide and everything in that line is carbon.
Finally, and this is more semantic than tangible world building, it completely defangs lightsabers, and removes any sense of danger from the setting. "Why didn't that character die?" Because the writer-I mean the force didn't want them to. We aren't just seeing the man behind the curtain, he's telling us flat out nothing matters.

The artwork in Arcane was so good that it convinced everyone that the writing wasn't utter garbage. People citing it as great especially in comparison to other crap only demonstrates that the reviewer doesn't actually believe and/or critically evaluate what they're saying. Star Wars is terrible because light sabers don't or have stopped killing people? Well, no less than three protagonists in Arcane return after being within feet of an explosion that kills *several* characters on either side of them.

Would've been cool to see Sabine going to find her weapons and choosing her blasters over her lightsaber symbolizing how she is disconnected from her Jedi training. Then we can get a good and competent battle between Sabine and Shin, and when Shin takes the upper hand instead of stabbing her, Ahsoka arrives just in time, and Shin escapes with the map and have the exact same outcome from the show but with better backstory: Ahsoka disappointed in how Sabine lost the map; she goes to Corellia alone and then everything plays out the same. In fact her not choosing her lightsaber, would've made her character development later on even stronger and made her seem more competent, likeable, and cooler overall to people who didn't know her from Rebels.

To be honest, watching The Clone Wars for the first time and seeing the entire Maul plotline play out: First with discount Maul "Savage" and then by actual Maul miraculously appearing from the dead, I wasn't a fan. But through the series I almost completely forgot about the character introduction, because they turned Maul into one of the most iconic and compelling characters of the Clone Wars (and Sam Witwer just killed his role).
Even though I still technically don't agree with the discision to raise Maul from the dead, it just goes to show how much a show can get away when a character is well written.

With how many characters have survived lightsaber stabbings it also begs the question, why is stabbing then drawing from the same hole the technique? Wouldn't it make more sense to slice out or something? I feel like there must be an easy way to make sure the enemy is dead. Like Judge Dredd shooting combatants in the head after the belly. Lightsaber users have to be tracking at this point that stabbing is not the ideal technique for killing the opponent.
