    The Swiss M84 Canteen is a complete drinking system from the Swiss Army. Originally adopted in 1984, this canteen saw service for over two decades before being replaced by the current generation canteen system. Consisting of two parts, one being the nearly one liter plastic canteen and the other being the aluminum cup that nests at the base of the canteen.

    Hey Luke!! I've owned three sets, for last couple of years , and love them, my only problem is, the straw thingy, gadget under the cap will , develop a nasty issue, (it's the same deal with American and nato systems), it seems to grow mold if it's not treated or cared for via bleaching ( will kill any nasty), or dishwasher disinfected , otherwise , they are awesome and very compact.

    This canteen and cup are part of my day bag setup. I don't carry a stove because I can't really cook in most of the places I hike but if I find myself stranded, I can make fire and use the cup to purify water or make coffee, tea, or broth. I agree - great piece of kit.

    Been looking for a way to carry the M84 on a belt when I go hiking. Found that the Husky 7 pocket tool carrier (Home Depot) fits perfectly (without the cup).

    Hey Luke thanks for another great review. I am building my first haversack kit & it is small so I think this set up will take care of the cup/canteen part of my kit.

    This combo fits perfectly into my LAPG bail out bag. The Swiss, I think, invest in quality. I don’t know about their vinyl bags though.

    Great New Luke, keepshooting.com has agreed to refund product and shipping cost on my order of the m84 Swiss canteen kit and told me I could keep what they sent. So they get a big A+ in customer service from me. By the way they are out of stock, however Midway USA has them in unissued new condition for 9.95.

    There is a stand for the cup that you could use to burn an Esbit fuel cube under it.Or at the very least use an Esbit stove with the cup.Either way it looks like a decent solution.

    • @splittertarn2

      I wonder too, but one thing I can say is that these canteens do not contain PCB due to PCB being banned in Switzerland 1986.

    Hey Luke was this video shot in 60fps? The motion on the video has almost no blur. Doesn't look bad, but I would suggest shooting at 24 or 30 fps for reviews and stuff and 60 for action shots where that extra definition really helps.. let me know what ya think!

    Hey Luke. Love your vids.. just a couple questions.. what are your thoughts on the safety hazards of cooking in aluminum? Secondly, if you squeeze the bottle (if it does squeeze) does the water come out the resporator port?Thanks man!

    • @Thereal111t
      @Thereal111t 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The canteen is very rigid. It doesn't squeeze.

    • @TheOutdoorGearReview
      @TheOutdoorGearReview  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +David Dunford Hey there David, Thereal111t is correct, the plastic is too hard to squeeze. As for aluminum, from what I have read it is absolutely fine. The story of how that rumor came about is pretty interesting though if you have the time to read up on it. - Luke

    just received this Swiss m84 canteen from keep shooting and the cup was all beat to hell, severely dented and mangled. nothing like the one you reviewed or like the one on their website. I called them and they stated " it's still usable". so is used toilet paper but I would prefer otherwise just the same. They did offer me a refund if I sent it back, so 15.00 buck in to/from shipping cost out the window and no product to use, that's unacceptable. I replied to them that they should refund all shipping if truly customer focused. I will post again when I hear back from them. Hope they do the right thing.

    Well...we cook food primarily to kill pathogens. So, if you're boiling pond water to make it potable... I guess you could call it "cooking water" :)

    I’m waiting for mine to be delivered, I bought it on eBay. A big reason I got it was because the cup was advertised as being steel, it seemed a cheap way to get a steel canteen cup ( not that I’m against using aluminium) . I’m going to be pretty pissed if it’ turns out to be aluminium. For the price (£8.99, free p &p), I could have got a bigger aluminium cup that could be used for cooking as well. Anybody know if they did a steel cup version?
