You are in fact wrong, it is a piece that was commissioned by Elise Hall, and was originally written in 1918 for alto saxophone and orchestra. However, since they weren’t that many saxophone players back in the day, a lot of pieces (just like this one) were transcribed for violon and viola as soon as they were finished in order for the composers to hopefully sell more copies.
