There’s these strange moments where you’re like and “I got to carry water!” and it’s like bigger than the things that the civilians think are awesome and impressive... LOL
There’s the Tip of the Spear and then there’s the cutting edge...
Being humble and accepting that supporting role is what usually happens but sometimes the humbling takes other forms.
It’s a really big team and only as strong as the weakest link with everyone and everything usually depending upon someone they’ve never seen and never heard of...
So it’s important to get it right. Because you never just never know what you don’t know... or how things are going to go.

All I can say is, he's lucky Di'Tomasso was in a good mood that night. From boot camp on, he knows you render custom & courtesies to any soldier you don't know, it could be a fellow private to a 4-star, nobody wears rank in field or in country. I'm "Doc" Harris, Ex Army Infantry Combat Medic 10th Mountain Division. My Platoon was out on routine patrol, no moon that night heavy cloud cover. We didn't know the terrain (ya don't until ya walk it a few times) and our pointman walked off a 15-20ft cliff. I'm in the middle of our column, I heard the most God awful smack/thud up ahead. I popped out of column ran to the front and asked what's up? All they said was they heard point scream out. With my flashlight out I quickly walked forward, found the edge of space , shone the light down there he was, lying on his back face up, I quick looked to my left and saw a ravine heading to to him, like a shot I ran down to him, did what I was trained to do, got him good and stabilized, I called out 4 names from my Platoon to be my 4-man Litter team, we got him back up to surface, me still holding his I.V. bag I called the Sir over and told him "He's got a couple broken ribs, some probably fractured, he's lost a couple teeth but none of that worry's me Sir, I'm more concerned about internal bleeding, that's life threatening Sir, we need a dustoff like yesterday, because every time his heart beats he's making his situation worse. I told him he could have a ruptured spleen, kidney, be developing an embolism. Dustoff got there in 15mins flat. I made sure I tagged him with my field triage and off he went. C/O called 60min mandatory rest then back on mission. Little did I know, before all the drama, the battalion C/O Col. Stevens was third to last man behind me in the column. During rest break, he comes over to me and says "You did great work back there "Doc" not knowing who he was I just simply said "Thank you my man, but I'm just doing my job and I love doin' it. My guys know I will move heaven & earth to come for them". He said "that's great to hear, the trust between a grunt and his Doc is a sacred one". I just said you damn Skippy, smiled and gave him a fist bump. He got up and left. My saw gunner Herrera says "Doc, who the F was that? I'm like I have no idea but he was cool, probably another Sgt. wishing me well. 2wks later I get ordered to the Battalion Commanders office and to report properly. Scared shitless out of my mind because I had no idea what I had done to get the invite and knowing full well with stroke of a pen he can send my ass to Thule Greenland next day. I do my door raps, wait to be called in, report, put at ease. Same guy from two weeks ago reads me the Army Commendation Medal blah, blah, blah, then puts on me. Shakes my hands tells me great job and that I reminded him of HIS medic in Vietnam when he was a green Lt. He said watching you in action was just like watching him. I thanked him, then the Command Sgt. Major, the best the Army ever had CSM Heckert dismisses me, and says as I'm walking out the door "Head back to the barracks and change uniforms, I know you shit yourself twice on the way up here Doc and we busted out laughin' and I said yeah I did. The guy in this video as I said was lucky Di' Tomasso was in a good mood that night. Delta Force Commander??!! Man I'd faint wake up, then ask "I'm going to Thule Greenland for 13mths aren't I ?

Wow. That was a rollercoaster of a read, sir.
I'm sure that was one hell of an honor, and I can only imagine how much that moment meant to you. However, I can tell just from reading your short story that, nothing meant more to you than having the honor of moving heaven, and earth to save, and render aid to your guys when they needed you. I don't doubt that this, along with your skill & proficiency, is what your C/O, Col. Stevens, saw in you too. Except he saw it first hand, in the field, and I'm sure that was profound. Especially considering that you reminded him of *_his own_* medic from back in Vietnam.
Your platoon was blessed to have you, sir.
Doc, I know it's not worth much, but sincerely, thank you for your service. Also, thank you for sharing that incredible story of yours. It almost felt like I was right there with you during those moments while I was reading it. I don't know if you've published any literature, but if you haven't, I don't doubt that you would excellent at writing novels. Whether they're they're nonfiction about your own experiences, or fictional novels that draw from your experience, and expertise in the field. Hell, even if it had nothing to do with the military at all, I'd for sure still buy it & read it. Either way, it was a privilege to read the story that you took the time to write, and post here, on it's own. I'm grateful to have stumbled across it.
Anyway, Sir. I trust that all is well with you & your loved ones (especially considering they have good ol' Doc around).
Best wishes to both you & your family.
      And again, thank you, sincerely.
      Take care, Doc.
      -𝕮. (𝖃𝖊𝖓𝖔)
Btw, you've convinced me that maybe the military should take some of our tax-dollars, and invest into getting you guys some *_brown_* pants to add to your dress uniforms solely for the purpose of being used in instances like the one you specifically described. And if they so happen to be brown _already,_ then it certainly wouldn't hurt to have an additional *_special_* pair that's a few shades darker. 😂

Do you work at this store?
No sir I’m just here for part of the day. I will be going into the office later.

@@victoralvarez7758 imagine checking what an SF SFC doing with his overlapping fields of fire. You don't need to check if SF guys are pulling security. They know how to do their job.
If I was micromanaged as an infantry team leader pulling security. Doing that to an SF group is over kill.

@@efficientfuture1336that’s not micromanaging. Like you said, you don’t necessarily have to check SF guys because they know what they’re doing. He was probably seeing where his sector was because security was still being set up or he was trying to see where they had freedom of movement on the operation. If delta is checking sectors it’s for a valid reason.
