- This last video showcases some of the different choices you can make in the game, which affect bosses and scenes later on. The more significant features include the Press Disposer and Volt Kurageil alternate bosses, as well as the acquisition of Zero's Saber. Trading your best friend for his badass weapon probably isn't the best ethical choice, but I'll let you worry about that.
Finally, the game's "bad" ending is actually pretty neat, in which Dr. Doppler sacrifices himself to rectify his actions. It isn't a humongous plot twist, but for a 90s video game, it works.

Mega Man X3 was originally released in late 1995 and early 1996. It was developed and published by Capcom. I intend no copyright infringement through these videos; their purpose is recreational use.
This playthrough is void of all shenanigans; no slowdown, speedup, or savestate abuse occurred. Levels were usually played multiple times before recording to get an idea of what is important to focus on. The only true requirement is to get Mosquitus to appear; no specific items or armor are needed. Mosquitus will be present if Vile is actually killed (not just fled) before you reach this level. If you were to send X inside his room, it plays out like a normal battle and no Saber will be obtained. Alternatively, having Zero win the fight causes him to pass on the Saber to X as at 7:35.

Vile needs to be defeated with the weapon obtained from the crab boss. But this I believe is to obtain the golden armor.
I'm now 30 years old and your vid made me feel like a kid again! I cannot remember the last time I thought to myself: "oh my god, cool!" or "WHAT?! ... Awesome!" this often cosecutively. I never knew X3 had all these alternate story branches, because I never bothered trying to hit Bit, Byte or Vile with any special weapons!

Honestly, I just watched this for the commentary, you are hilarious. I didn't realize how overpowered the z-saber was. I didn't want doppler dead (I'm a story perfectionist, I prefer that everyone gets out alive,) so I didn't let Zero go boom.
But zero is his magic to exploit the first thing he does.
The Z Saber even makes the Kaiser Sigma a joke.

Not so for me. Even with the Z-Saber, it's tricky to defeat Sigma. You need to strike him in just the right place, which is hard to reach.
If you manage to hit him with it that is, and with the Z-Saber fucking up your momentum in the air, yeah that's quite the sick fucking joke!

i recommend the 4.0 version bc. its the most polished and even has some improovments all around (like a save and loading feature for example)
Well not really. Zero is only playable once per level and if you enter to the mid boss or end boss room you switch back to X

Thanks! I still upload stuff, but it's mostly brief unedited clips from the more modern Xbox consoles. I'm generally interested in doing another SNES project, but free time is scarce (especially looking back to this project; going into wiki-level detail required additional time).
You should check out Mega Man X: Corrupted. As long as it isn't shut down prior to release, it looks highly impressive and might just, er, make Mega Man X great again!

To be fair, this is a bit of a challenging game, and Sigma does an obscene amount of damage even if X is fully decked out. Also, back when I first played this in the '90s, Sigma probably killed me two dozen times - and that's a low estimate - so I feel ya.

Kept dying on mesquitus as zero. It took me 4 hours of retrying, from the 1st doppler stage, and having to get the gold armor over again, to beat this and get the saber.

I hated this game for the fact Zero was not really fully playible till MMX 4
They should have made so you can fight vile with zero too, seems like they'd have a bigger grudge against each other...

Blizzard Buffalo's weapon also works on Bit, and Tunnel Rhino's on Byte.
But it turns out that volt catfish's and neon tiger's weapon are also Bit and Byte's weaknesses
What happens at the beginning of the game if you die as Zero after X is captured by Mac? I never play as Zero except for the beginning of the game so I don't know, I do know that Zero only has one life and once he dies, (or losses all life energy depending on how you look at it) he's gone for good, which is why he can't fight any of the bosses or mini bosses (in case you lose right?) Zero can handle himself, but I guess Capcom didn't want to take any chances. So anyway back to my question, what DOES happen at the beginning of the game after X is taken by Mac and you die as Zero like in this video? 🤔

How did you get to fight that weird boss at 3:16 o.0 also I used to mash all the buttons randomly at the password screen at it would give you access to warp zones and some kind of data numbers. I can't really remember since I beat it back in 97' but I remember everything except that one boss at 3:16

I have a question here guys. Every time I acceces Dr. Doppler's second stage it's quite different from the video, it's all destroyed and I can never manage to get Zero's sabre beam. What am I doing wrong? I can mention that I didn't know it was possible to kill Bit and Byte as well as Vile.
Dr. Doppler's second stage appearance is dependent on how you handled Vile beforehand. The stage appears junked if he is not killed (prevents acquisition of sabre), or appears pristine if he is killed (allows acquisition of sabre).
To kill Vile, you need to access his hidden stage and land the final hit with either the Ray Splasher or Spinning Blade, his weaknesses. This results in some brief dialogue and the classic explosion animation. If any other weapon is used, he just flees (but will return for a rematch at Dr. Doppler's second stage).

A mi solo me agrada más en los Megaman x4,x5,x6 ya que sin duda su sprite se ve muchisimo más cool, en x, x2 y x3 se ve muy feo xD, además de que la jugabilidad con el en el x3 casi no me gusto, lo sentía como que muy "lento" y "torpe", menos mal que esto cambio drasticamente en las versiones posteriores, sin duda mi personaje favorito después de las 3 primeras entregas, saludos! :D
PD: Los sprites de Zero en el Megaman x6, son una pasada y su jugabilidad es de lo mejor :D

+truearea53 I'm pretty sure it does! That version used the Playstation edition of Mega Man X3 - though I believe the only difference is in the game's audio, as opposed to graphics or gameplay features.

+truearea53 Hmm. Are you sure that Vile was killed (and not just defeated) prior to Sigma Stage 2? See 1:05 in the video. If he isn't killed, Mosquitus won't appear.

On the contrary X5 wouldn't happen if Capcom intended for this game to be the final. In this game Sigma reveals his true form. In this Game if Zero gives X the Saber Doppler comes back and "Cures" Sigma. The Sigma Virus ceases to be.
No need to dive deep into Zero's Backstory or Make Sigma even more of a joke, really if anything the Sigma from games after X3 should have been Vile, since it implies in X3 that Vile will continue to Haunt X for as long as he (X) lives.
Sigma fully Dies, Vile becomes the new Villian. Clearly not what happened, but the point is if X3 was the true ending to the X series it ended on a good note.
personally I think X5 is a more satisfying conclusion.

Cool video I wish someone out there would take the sprites of x4 or x8 and make some more fan games already a few x1 graphic fan games but they're kinda crappy.. i mean we all know crapcom will never make another full scale mm game ever again they'll be milking re releases plenty more times i'm sure though
+Marcus AK I highly recommend you search for "JKB Games" on TH-cam. A small crew of folks are making a new game with the Mega Man X1 - X3 graphical and sound aesthetic. It's going to be Metroidvania-styled and the details look amazing. No word on when it will be released but good things come to those who are patient!
