An alternate for the buzzer wrap is white uv floss or a few strands of crystal flash twisted before you add a drop of resin to the floss with a needle of fine brush then blast it with uv light before adding the hackle.
A cracking black cruncher Lindsay I like using utc mirage stretched tinsel collar when they are showing on top fishing it short fast pulls it’s deadly 🐟🎣
Excellent ty Lindsey ,The Brenig bars of silver will certainly like that as they are currently going mad for small black hoppers and subsurface black small flies.Regarding the whip finish tool you may find it easier to hook the thread into the small hook of the arm before the shoulder as the thread is more secure then ,just the way I do it and I am nearly up to the speed that Davie Mcphail whips finishes
I'm the same way with the whip finish tool. I use my fingers. I will try to use the whip finish tool. More often. I just do more practicing . Thanks for sharing your video. 👍😎👍
Nice little pattern there Lindsay. Definitely going to give this one a try. Well done for getting a grip on the whip finisher. You’ll find that on the finish you can build the head to the shape you want it if it wasn’t quite there. Thanks for another one dude..
Sorry to hear your season will be delayed. Glad I live in the state of Maine , USA . Already wet a line two days , headed to the big lake in my area ,Sebago lake , for some landlocked Salmon on Saturday.
Hi Lindsay, with her ladyships conditions this is week three for us!! I think it could well be the end of July before we get into boats and then there will be long delays due to demand from stir crazy anglers!! Im quite lucky as we have a local fishery where I am a member so hopefully once the lockdown is relaxex I will get fishing … and try out the dozens of patterns I am tying to avoid boredom!! Stay healthy … Jim
I am new to tying my own flys, loving your videos, and I prefer the whip finishing tool. Stay safe at this critical time, and you never know, we may bump into one another somewhere in Fife.
Fantastic looking fly, and it's surely going to find a way into my fly box. As for the whip finisher, don't hold it so close to the hook, back off just a tad allowing a bit more thread out to give you more room to use it , and it'll make it easier to unhook the tool from the thread.
The fly is a good one. The cheeks look handy, so will try that. This fly works well as I've tied something similar also like the cock fibre instead of pheasant for the tail. Great to see you in about the whip finisher too. Stick at it mate.
Hi Norman, thanks for tuning in the Bone Dry Solarez is the one I am using. Not bought a bottle in over a year. Funky Fly Tying carry it I believe. I take it you are UK based?
I've had a few on crunchers at Carman , they seem to like them there. I'm looking for a thin strong thread for tying in deer hair Lindsay, my uni snaps off too often and my big pillow is being used way to often!!. Could you send me a link please. Keep the vids coming please as it looks like fishing won't be an option for a while. Hopefully the borders will be open for my fishing holiday in Scotland/England in August. ATB Chris
Hi Chris, I like the Nano silks for tying in Deer Hair. There are lots of different ones but my favourites are the ones from Fish On and the Veevus GSP The white in 50D you can colour it with marker pens if you need a different colour. Hope that helps pal. www.fishonproductions.co.uk/ultimate_tying_silk/fish_on_ultimate_tying_silk.html www.flytyingboutique.com/threads-tinsel-and-wire/gsp-thread/veevus-gsp-thread/
Another great pattern to try thank you. Congratulations on mastering the whip finish tool. Do you feel now it has its place or just pointless? It think helps me shape the head on small flies when you need to prevent thread build up but lots of times I still need to use the fingers.
I think I need to become much more proficient at using it before making a judgment. If I was not doing videos I doubt very much I would have bothered. It does not seem to have impacted my tying in any great way. Still, I want to encourage others into taking part and having a go the least I can do is learn the tools of the trade.
Hi Lindsay correct me if I’m wrong, didn’t you counter rib the pheasant tail to the way you wound your thread, you then wound the wire the same way, you could still see the rib ok, just saying like. Glad to see you using the whip finisher tool, way to go man.
I've seen this happening on several of his videos. None the less I love Lindsays videos and I can't say that I am a better tier than him. Good job Lindsay, you make crackin flies mate.
Hi Lindsay, you’re still doing it, counter wind your wire not the same way as your body, like me it could be senility lol, it’s still a cracking wee flea whatsoever
An alternate for the buzzer wrap is white uv floss or a few strands of crystal flash twisted before you add a drop of resin to the floss with a needle of fine brush then blast it with uv light before adding the hackle.
Excellent tie Lindsay, fish taker for sure.
No doubt!
Yes, Lindsay I can see this fly working, thanks for sharing Reg.
Thanks for watching!

Probably my favourite Cruncher.
Thank you that fly has deadly written all over it. Thanks Lindsey I have just begun to watch your tying and enjoy your work. Very good job.
Thanks Stan, glad you are finding them useful.
You certainly whipped that finish. Nice fly and presentation. Thanks from down-under in NZ.
Thanks John, hope you are keeping well.
Nice fly. Gonna tie up some tonight. Thanks for the inspiration.
Go for it!
Nice fly. That is right up my street.
Thanks Keith

Thats quite an old video Stuart, I have just about got the hang of the whip finish now.....lol.
Well done; agree, it will be late in the year and a box of these will be the ticket!
Thanks buddy, hope its not to late!

Thanks Alister, I live in deepest darkest Surrey now so don't get back to Fife that often.

Yes, I have snapped the thread on more than one occasion, very frustrating.
glad you came over the whipfinish threshold, might have a go at that fly looks good, all the best stay safe
Thanks Robert, the fly is definitely worth having ;-)
@@lindsayiflyfish thanks
Well done on the Whip Finish Tool impressive 👍😂😂
lol, not yet but its a start.
Stick with the whip finisher. It'll soon become second nature....and that was a lovely little fly too.
Thanks Robin.
Great job with the whip finish tool !
lol, it's a start pal.
I use a half hitch first and than the whip finisher
The fly is a good one.
The cheeks look handy, so will try that.

Thanks Mark, much appreciated.
Who gives a thumbs down on this cracking black cruncher I think you need glasses if you ask me 🤓😁
I think it might be more to do with me than the fly ;-)
Cracking fly with a blue uv tinsel thorax I find deadly Lindsay 🐟🎣
It’s lethal pal 👍
Nice work
Thank you.
Hi where do you get your Solaris liquid I’m just new to your channel totally enjoying it

@@fliesbychris I was tying every thing with that for a while and just using the marker pens when I wanted a different colour.

Gordon Graham
Could you please tell me which resin has that little brush you use?
Great channel, learning from it all the time. Thanks.
Thanks Gordon, the resin in Solarez UV Bone Dry. It's the little brush that makes me choose this resin. Most of the resins are much the same.
Well done Lindsay. What vise are you using?
The one in this video is the Jan Tvrdek Rotary vice, they are no longer making them. I am in the middle of changing over to a new main vice.
Thanks L. A pity. I like the clean lines, narrow jaws, and appearance.
9 mins 34 seconds in I thought you were rubbing a pork pie on your thread 🤣
Like a nice pork pie, I do....lol.
Cheeks are hardest part for me.
Just practice Michael, it will come.
Dear Mr. Simpson, It gives me a great sadness to have to revoke your membership of the Hand Whip Finish Association. I am truly sorry Taff.
lol, Ah James, I feel I have let you down pal....lol
@@lindsayiflyfish I think I'm the only member left now lol
Time for a try?
