I have a little trick for balloon battles. I always pick Bowser (or anyone who can shove people to the side with a little bump) and choose courses that can have you fall off the map like the Twilight House and Nintendo DS, find someone on the edge of the map, hit them with a red shell and just bump them out of the map for an immediate elimination. I cleared house under 3 minutes with that trick 😂

Go to any of the corner Item Boxes Facing the inside, position yourself to the right corner [I recommend having something to protect yourself with, _this doesn't work 100% of the time!]_ Wait for Enemy CPU to approach from your side. If all goes well, the CPU will attempt to drive *straight to you, and off the ledge.* Younger me found this absolutely hilarious
I miss when Balloon Battle used to be about the last one standing wins! Mario Kart 8 for Wii U did bring back the eliminations, but the biggest new problem was that it took place in racetracks and essentially nobody liked that! And just when MK8 Deluxe fixes not only how many item slots you can use for storage (which is two), but also what stages do players battle on, Nintendo also took a step backwards by making BB purely point-based again, thus shafting me with what I can get the best out of a single battle mode! Stupid point-based mechanic! >:( I mean, I get that when players ran out of balloons, they had to wait until only 1 player was on-stage in order to continue playing like everyone else, or otherwise it be frustratingly boring, however both fans and Nintendo staff themselves should've realized that turning into a ghost (who can lay item boxes around the stage) would've been enough to make up for it! I grew up with MKDD's Balloon Battle, then DS also did it right, but now Nintendo's completely changed their conceptional idea! This is why I never understand why Nathaniel Bandy always complains that you cannot turn-off time in Modern Mario Kart's Battle Mode, since timeless balloon-battles wouldn't work in point-based versions if the match'll never end, and even if it's survival mode, the time-limit is completely necessary because of the aforementioned issue of eliminated players losing their patience in waiting. Why can't Nintendo just add a toggle to choose which version of Balloon Battle do players prefer to play, so that way it'll make everybody happy, JUST WHY NOT!?! 😭

When I was younger I personally had this Ds cartridge that you could download games onto so you could play them for free although online wasn’t accessible. You can probably find one online for extremely cheap
I used to love this a lot, but it lost its magic after I figured out how the AI players worked... They don't actually try to attack each other, only you. So if they aren't near you, they don't use items and just drag them behind. They won't use them on other AIs when passing; if they hit each other, it's just in the process of trying to get you... Sucks how later balloon battles in the series instead make it about getting the most amount of hits within a time limit, making it not feel like a death match.
