- N2N - 2009 Tony Awards - Alice Ripley accepts her Tony for Best Actress for her role as Diana Goodman in Next to Normal. Truly a brilliant actress, a performance not to be missed. Next to Normal is currently playing at the Booth Theatre on Broadway, in New York City. Also featuring J. Robert Spencer, Aaron Tveit, Jennifer Damiano, Adam Chanler-Berat, and Louis Hobson. Next to Normal also received a Tony Award for Best Original Score for Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey.

This was Alice Ripley trying to win an Emmy for her Tony Speech.
I watched some of the musical's songs on TH-cam which led me to this and your concise appraisal. Her speech reinforces my initial rejection to the work as terribly overwrought. Thanks for the reinforcement of my suspicions. about the work.

She said in another interview that the reason she was so loud was because earlier that night she was having trouble hearing other people and she wanted to be heard... I think ya nailed it AR! SHe is loud, fierce, and proud! Love it!

I remember first seeing this before knowing Alice n I was like "Wow, this lady is alittle cooky!" But now I am a huge fan of Alice's and she totally deserved it! They could nominate her again next year and she would win.

I love this woman! So brilliantly talented, I wish I will have the privilege to see her perform someday... I've seen an off Broadway version of this show, and while still good, I can only dream of how the Broadway version was. It's definitely one of my favorites. Her speech was so inspirational and elegant, truly the best woman one in my opinion. Go Alice! :)

when i saw this i thought that maybe the role was like emotionally messing with her like it would be a hard role to deliver everyday but i met her and she seemed really nice it was to much though like she was screaming

i love her! she is so sweet, adorable, and hilarious! i met her at the stage door and she was just the sweetest thing! Some guy gave her a pic he took of her and some dog and she was like "yay! photographic evidence that i have a boyfriend! take that bobby!" she was so funny!
One of those times where you see the actress and just think "That's the one! That's the character!"

Idk if Sutton was pissed or was about to smile, but the video cut it off (which it looked like). I honestly imagine that Sutton wouldn't expect to win because it was highly expected that Alice would win

It looks to me like she was a bit emotional at first. She just won a Tony!!! After she gets her emotions in check her voice level is calm and beautiful. She is an passionate and loving person who also happens to be extremely talented in many art forms. She even uses her Tony win to inspire others. Far. From. Crazy!

@alphadecay its become a very well known fact that both her and hunter (her brother) are kind of sore sports when it comes to awards... Thus explaining why Hunter Foster made that facebook page after this last tony awards... It wasnt because he had a problem with all the hollywook stars winning tonys its because he wasnt nominated for Million Dollar Quartet....
