- A lot of fakes have been popping up on the Aussie market lately, some with sellers who are either liars and cheats or just unknowing. This isn’t the be all and end all of Mosin PU fake spotting but a quick start.

Audio may be a bit low but trust me, you'll survive.
The front sight post on the true sniper rifle in centered and longer than the standard infantry rifle and the bayonet doesn't fit the sniper rifle barrel or at least not on the two I had. One was a Vietnam capture so I know it was original
Good points Ron the front sight post should definitely be taller than a standard rifle.
People don’t have a lot of money to buy a true sniper rifle. Sometimes a fake one would do for the budget.
Yep, for sure. Nothing against reproductions or clones, the issue is with people representing them as an original rifle. They also seem to be pricing them the same or only slightly less than the real deal muddying the waters further. So the intention of this video is to help people not be fooled into buying something they believe is an original.

Только одно. Для прицела ПУ использовался кронштейн Кочетова. Это карабин сверху. Карабин снизу с прицелом ПЕ, на него устанавливался кронштейн Смирнского. Хотя шла война, могло все меняется. Тем не менее оружие достойное💥

@@servicerifleshooter I picked up a "PU" in 2012 when a bunch came in thru AIM Surplus. The rifle is legit but the scope was a repop and was openly advertised as such. It's actually a decent shooter but the eye relief is TA01NSN ACOG'ish🤣🤣
@@alu.304 yeah they are a bit of an experience to shoot well. Sometimes original scopes and mounts pop up on ebay and stuff mate, if you ever feel the need might be a cool thing to put a legit scope on it. They are really quite decent.

Thanks for sharing. I've only fired one and it was okay to 200m no problems.
They are very underrated. I've shot mine accurately to 500 with 180 Gn FMJ BT's, no doubt it will go further.

@@mchughcb yep, though i mostly run factory with this as it performs well.
These are 600M rifles. A short M44 carbine is easily 350-400M.
Mine has the original scope number polished off and new numbers electro pencil on mount with rifle serial number. Side note some repro scope are now coming with round top screws

What is with these guns that have drilled and tapped holes that are plug welded
The soviet union had an excess of rifles that had been made into sniper rifles or prepared for same. A lot of these rifles were returned back to the infantry rifle spec which is when the holes were plugged. This was done by the Russians. It's common to see fake / clone snipers made out of these rifles as they do have a lot of the stamps that real PU sniper rifles have. people call it "re-snipering" or a re-sniper but that not a military thing, its something people do to make fakes/ clones.
@@servicerifleshooter The ex-sniper or ones that were returned to infantry issue have the special sniper barrels made by the Tula or Izhevsk factories .If stocked well they shoot splendidly. My Tula has the CP (sniper abbreviation)in Cyrillic stamped above the star. They should all be 1942-1944 marked also.
