    The GPD XD Plus clam shell style handheld has both analog sticks at the top. And the 351v has back shoulder buttons as well. I love both of these devices. So this mix of the two in a vertical format is very appealing to me.

      @Unholy_Louie 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Yeah. It really shows that nobody working on those devices are actual gamers. I didn't know that it was such an issue. Yes, they do use consultants here and there, but most of the time, the few that are sometimes briefly brought in get there when the device is almost factory ready... It's crazy. They should have that experience and talent in-house, and from day one; instead of bringing outsiders at the last second, who are tasked to tweak fundamentally flawed devices.
      it's a bit like the TON of "mini arcade" type devices that after a DECADE, still cannot in most cases play arcade games in their original aspect ratio. They do not understand this concept, that people who love those games do not want to play them stretched to hell.
      EXCEPT if you have a channel called "Wicked Gamer & Collector" lol! "P
      (he likes playing classic arcade games with a 16:9 ratio SO MUCH, that he gets annoyed each time when he reviews yet another crap product mini arcade and it is pointed out by everyone that it cannot switch to 4:3 or anything bearable, and is thus useless junk. It's a unique and frankly bizarre case lol :P).

    The contra test! Thank you for mentioning the biggest issue I've had with these handhelds. Especially the Anbernic models. That loose dpad completely destroys the experience

    • @estylegreesye4384
      @estylegreesye4384 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's something that really makes me wonder! Many TH-cam reviewers say that the older ANBERNIC devices have one of the best d-pads out there which they say isn't the case anymore with the latest OLED model RG503. They say the d-pad is a bit too loose, soft and somewhat strange in comparison to the older d-pads of the RG351MP or RG552 for example. In my opinion, the one of the latest 503 model is better than the one on the 351MP and way better than the one on the 552. The d-pad of the 351MP is great but still has this minor issue shown in this video with the Contra game. The one on the RG503 doesn't have this issue, even if it feels a bit softer at first and not as tight as the RG351MP d-pad.

    • @richarddukard8989
      @richarddukard8989 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@estylegreesye4384 I have 3 anbernic handhelds. 2 x RG350M and 1 x RG350MP. All three of them have really bad dpads. I can only assume every RG35X model has this problem. It really is amazing no other TH-camrs have mentioned it🤔$$...To be fair, my friend has an RG280v with a newer style dpad, and it has zero problems.
      Edit: FYI the Retroflag Gpi Case has one of the worst dpads. It's almost unusable.

    • @estylegreesye4384
      @estylegreesye4384 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@richarddukard8989 yes, I can totally understand that. It's exactly the same experience that I have. If you're looking for a new good device you shouldn't listen too much to the reviewers and try out the new RG503. The d-pad is more accurate on that one and also the issue with the small gaps between display and shell have been improved. At least on my unit there's no gap at all. Even the display protection foil has been improved as it's not stuck between the display and shell anymore as you can see in unboxing videos of the early units of the RG503.
      The firmware is way better than it always used to be, as well. I'm totally happy with my device and really can't complain! 🙃

    If I were shopping for a handheld for a gift right now, it'd probably be a contest between the Miyoo Mini and the RGB20S, depending on what games the recipient would want to play. The RGB20S is just cheap enough to make its rough edges justifiable, and while we're still at a point where I wouldn't let any layperson suffer the factory firmware experience on any handheld, the RGB20S comes close. The only problem being that cheap, easily corruptible second SD card. I'd still have to get it shipped to me so I could put a good custom OS and a curated collection of ROMs on brand name SD cards.
    As someone who seriously loves the RG351V, the RGB20S appeals to me with its vertical form factor, and the second analogue stick would really be nice to have. I'm actually kind of surprised it's a little smaller. I thought PowKiddy were just going to straight up copy the RG351V for this. Unfortunately, for a handheld for me, I don't think I could justify adding the RGB20S to my growing heap of handhelds (the growing heap already includes two RK3326 devices). I think I have a normal amount of handhelds for someone who has a TH-cam channel devoted to them. All I'm missing is the TH-cam channel, which means I have a problem, instead.
    I'll tell you what I'd really like to see: a more powerful followup to the Gameforce Chi. That thing is gloriously ugly in all the right ways, and if it had anything more powerful than an RK3326 in it, I would be all over it. I love its luridly colourful, chunky aesthetic. It looks like a retro device that never existed, so it evokes nostalgia without aping any one thing directly. I'd love it for myself, I'd give one to a kid, and I really wish they'd bring that to a new generation of handhelds.

    Not having a white tiger sticker for the white version is a huge missed opportunity.

    Would love to see you incorporating the Retroid Pocket 2+ into the comparison more. For $20 more it’s head and shoulder-buttons above this.

    • @mashmeloazul
      @mashmeloazul 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Bro there's no competition there. They're both different format devices and RP2+ absolutely destroys this thing, overall better build quality and better chip processor.

      RP2+ availability, especially worldwide, is a huge issue

    • @Minusroot8
      @Minusroot8 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed. The 2+ doesn’t get enough mentions in these reviews. The Retroid Pocket team deserves the $100 they are asking for it! Powkiddy will most likely never get a dime from me due to their missteps.

    • @Robstrap

      Where are h getting them for that price lol. The powkiddy is £63 here and the cheapest retrroid pocket 2 plus is £127

    Unfortunately this is probably the best “bang for the buck” device that is relatively easy to get in Canada.
    I would love to get a similarly priced device. But, out of what I’m looking for, this device offers me the most of what I’m looking for.
    Is it possible for you to make one of your in depth setup guide for this device? I love your content and I cant seem to find any actual useful resources on this device

    Getting the start and select buttons backwards isn't even a lack of attention to detail, because I personally don't believe a sticker that only has two words on it and then getting those two words backwards is a "detail," it's... well, silly, really. It's a lack of even basic care.
    I've been really craving some vertical handhelds like this lately. Dunno why. Something about a Gameboy style form factor but with a huge almost bezel-less screen is exactly what I want. So I got a Miyoo Mini coming. Saw this video and got excited, because I would love something a little more powerful like this for potentially Gamecube or Wii games (I had no idea of the actual power before watching of course.) on the go, but man, this was kind of a bummer. The more PSP/Vita/Switch style form factors just don't appeal to me as much and I already have a Switch and when I do want that style it'll be the Switch or my upcoming Steam Deck... or even my Vita.
    I don't know when the shape of the device became so important to me, but it is!
