MVS初の横スクロールシューティングゲーム。実はこの作品は、アイレムの「R-TYPE」の開発メンバーにより制作されている。しかし、決して「R-TYPE」を越えてはいないところが寂しい。5ステージ構成の全2周で終了。
ストーリー:
西暦2XX0年、人類は宇宙移民開始と共に宇宙世紀に移行した。既に地球上の総人口は900億を突破し、しかも地球は大気汚染と化石燃料の長年にわたる消費によって砂漠化が進行していた。これを防止するために、21世紀後半からスペースコロニー(宇宙植民地)の建設が開始され、人口天体の建造、また銀河系の多くの惑星にも恒久都市が築かれた。そんなある日、それらの中枢系統をつかさどっていたメインコントローラーに、緊急信号が入った。“SOS!SOS!……”第3コロニーのメインコンピューターに発生したコンピューターウイルスが意志を持ち始め、人類に反撃を始めた。ウイルス菌に侵されていく人々……。かつてのスペースヒーロー達も次々とウイルス菌によって、機械生命体となっていく。“SOS!SOS!……”彼らを救う最後の作戦。その名は“LAST RESORT”緊急発令!

確か当時餓狼伝説のCD買ったらカップリングでLast Resortの曲も入っていて、Last Resortの曲も好きになって今でも定期的に聞いてます。
If this is an R-Type clone, I would argue that it's more in touch with the original R-Type than the later sequels. Someone definitely poured their heart into this artistically.
システム的には斬新だったと思うよ。
R-TYPEと違ってポッドは任意の方に飛ばせたし、溜める感覚も絶妙。シンプルにパワーアップの属性を二系統にすることでメインウェポンとの組み合わせでその場面場面を乗り切るっていう。
難癖つけるとすればそのシステムが最大限活かされたステージ造りになってないことや5ステージ2周しないとトゥルーエンディングが見れないこと、敵が硬すぎたり弱すぎたりといったバランスの甘さ辛さ、といったところでしょうかね？
でもそれらを全て丸呑みしてしまえるほどの美麗グラフィックと重厚感、特に耳に残る名BGMは間違いなく秀逸でした。
R-TYPE作ったアイレムのスタッフだからこそできる美麗で芸の細かいドット絵、サイバー感を引き立てるBGM、、、、どれをとっても素晴らしい
初期のネオジオではこれとKOMことキングオブザモンスターズが特に好きだった
ただ難易度がね、、、二週はきつい
(それでも縦STGだがゴーストパイロットよりは遥かにマシ)
バブルガムクライシス&バトルエンジェル［ボスキャラのデザインが個人的にぶっ刺さった❣️］
弾密度はそれほど高くなく、地形もそう狭いわけではない。なのになぜか妙に難しい、不思議な横シューだった。

当時の上層部が「似たようなゲームを製造して」とか安易に考えていたっぽいからね。

Surprised to see the cameo appearance of the Hygogg in the first stage.
At first , I thought it was R type copy cat. But I am very impressed with the city design and stage boss , after I took a good look at it.
It may very well be, as Last Resort was developed with some former Irem employees, which does explain many of the similar designs of some enemies or the player ship looking like an R-9 variant.

The explosions are also the same as R-Type 2.
Im surprised the main ship here wasn't a ship in R-Type final.
Maybe in R-Type final 2, itll show up, but it does very much feel like an R-Type inspired game

The artwork in this game is like a winning combo of cyberpunk, terminator/robocop critters, and mecha-anime. The soundtrack slaps. I remember this at a laundry-mat arcade when I was a wee lad with a runaway imagination. That cabinet even had a few other Neo Geo selections such as Fatal Fury: Special, Crossed Swords, and Mutation Nation. Nostalgia bites hard.

+Marky Mark Bahlberg And the Junky Bunch I have it three times and it is well worth it. One of the most polished R-Type style games I have found. I prefer it to Pulstar. Great art style and music I feel too.
