For those who are kind of confused claiming that this is an R-Type clone, the rumors are that this game was develop by former ex-Irem, ex-Capcom, and ex-Jaleco employees who left their previous companies, and formed/joined another one, because some of these employees where desperate/dissapointed by their previous companies' inactivities/delays, which this is the case of Irem Corporation employees: half of the Irem employees formed Nazca Corporation, who where the developers of Neo Turf Masters/Big Tournament Golf, and the Metal Slug franchise, and the other half, move to AICOM (now known as Yumekobo) possibly this company was acquired by SNK as well they done with Nazca Corporation.

Not to beat a dead horse into the ground, but holy shit, this is like a case of inspiration/homage transitioning into copyright infringement. Like, the similarities are uncanny right down to enemy designs and patterns and even some of the level architecture. Was this developed as a remake of R-Type I/II or the next entry in the series that ended up being half-assedly rebranded as Not-R-Type when Irem went under? Either way, this game is fascinating on all fronts. It's literally "R-Type at home", but without any of the ironic/negative implications that that phrase normally carries.

I just find it remarkable how incredibly on the nose they were with all the references to R-Type when making Pulstar. Hence why I speculated that maybe the development team might have either started working on the project before they were integrated into Aicom, or maybe they started working on it upon joining Aicom and made it as close to R-Type as they possibly could, knowing that Irem couldn't sue them because they were restructuring? Anyway, there really isn't any information that would point towards that being the case, but I find this topic fun to theorize about.
@@apostlenik809 Hope that this will be helpful: SNK tried already in 1992 with Last Resort to have its own R-Type, and Last Resort was developed by ex-Irem staff that previously worked on Armed Police Unit Gallop and Air Duel, and the same later created several games for SNK (for example KOF94 and 95, Fatal Fury 3 and Metal Slug 1/2/3) with Takashi Nishiyama, which previously worked on Street Fighters and Megaman! [both by Capcom]. Then Nazca was formed, and they reused a lot of assets from Gunforce 2 (Geostorm) and In the Hunt (both by Irem) to create Metal Slug. Many Irem members worked for SNK in its heyday.

The game is easy because there is a constant enemy input to come out in masses shooting in a pattern BUT without ever breaking any pattern to come directly at AND chasing the player.

This was such a good neo geo game. I remembered seeing the animated intro while at the arcades and that was what got me to try the game.

NEOGEOで多数の格闘ゲームが出ていた時期、実はNEOGEO最初の300メガオーバーの作品だったりする。
あれと似てると言われるのは仕方ないけど、こちらも名作と言って良い出来だったね。
BGMも神曲揃いだけど、全体的に暗く重々しい雰囲気で、続編のブレイジングスターが軽快感溢れる曲なのとは対照的。
正当続編たるブレジングスターは本作のダークでヘビーな作り込みとは裏腹にライトでイージーな内容となっており、敵の生物的グロ感が廃止されて、機械じみた敵で構成されている(仮にあったとしてもラスボスの胎児のみである)。
映像と音楽が綺麗。1回死ぬと難易度が鬼。
なんつーか、よくあーるタイプですね。

R-TYPEと良く似ていますが音楽、グラフィックとも凝っていて工夫されているので良くできていると思います、PS4でもプレイ出来ますが処理落ちしないので難易度は上がります、PS4の沙羅曼蛇等二面は速すぎて地獄です。
Rタイプに似てるのはもう基本がそれだからそれを真似てどんどん面白くすれば良い、つまりこのゲームは面白い。

That's funny because it was composed by Harumi Fujita whose most prominent early work was at Capcom. This soundtrack is really great either way.

今だと似たゲームだとメトロイドヴァニアみたいな言い方で本質の良さを評価されるが当時はRタイプパクリにされちゃうんだよな。

前面の広いキャノピーといいくるくる回るオプションフォースといい配色といいこれはどう見てもR-9ですね間違いない…ただデザイン以外はSNK開発陣はさすがにいい仕事をしてる、この時代のゲーセンはいつ行ってもワクワクした…
