You probably figured this out while playing, but here are some controls for people who wanna play the pteradon! W = That's the main movement that follows your camera, it uses stamina. S = This will turn you in the opposite direction you are flying, doesn't use stam A = turns you to the left of where you're facing, doesn't use any stam D = turns you to the right of where you're facing, doesn't use stam Spacebar = when standing still you can hold this to take off, in the air hold it to elevate. Ctrl = hold this to descend Z = This is the airbrake, it slows you down in the air. If you descend while holding it you'll land safely. And if you hold right-click while air braking while aiming for a tree, you'll latch onto the tree Right-Click - if you use right click right above schooling fish, you'll catch one! This adds the 3 dots diet and is the best source of food when a baby ptera! You can also do a running start to your flight, but this costs more stamina and isn't really that useful besides getting a faster flight after take off. If you dive off something tall, you can hit spacebar to start flying and get a super fast take off! And finally diving while flying and immediately pulling up will give you speed boost while flying! Happy hunting, pigeons!
Just to add to this: W costs stamina when you are ascending, but it is actually the most stamina-efficient way to ascend. Spacebar is very stamina-inefficient for ascending and should only be used to avoid hitting the water when fishing or hitting the ground when swooping (apart from its other functions like taking off). The shallower the angle, the more stamina-efficient the ascent when using W. So the most stamina-efficient way to ascend is to use the camera while holding W to find the point just above perfectly level with your ptera. You'll know you're ascending when your ptera flaps its wings. If you're looking perfectly straight or down, your ptera won't flap and won't ascend even when holding W. To be clear, the amount of stamina consumed while ascending is not a fixed amount based on how high you ascend. You can reach the same heights while using significantly less stamina by using W to ascend at a shallow angle rather than using spacebar or W while ascending at a steep angle. You use stamina every time you takeoff from having landed on the ground. This can burn through stamina while you're fishing because you have to land in order to swallow the fish. You can avoid this by using the ptera's ability to latch onto vertical surfaces. You won't recover stamina while latched, but it doesn't cost you any stamina to takeoff from a latched position. So unless you plan to land long enough to recover a decent chunk of stamina, it's more stamina-efficient while fishing to latch and takeoff from vertical surfaces. Edit: I should have specified you can swallow fish while latched.
@@Devoidplacebo that has not been my experience but I haven’t played in a week or so. I did hear they added stam regen while latched but I thought it was only in the play test version, not in Evrima yet.

@@brandondavis4721 Sure, tweak it, but you exaggerated the issue, better not to use hyperbole to make a point or you lose the point my 75% in a tree dude, this includes the 99% remark, like to see your hard facts on this lol
@smefour in juvenile stage you literally have to sit and wait for 4 full minutes to regain your stamina my man. Combine that with the fact that it takes about half your stamina to get good altitude, that means you can get a nice high soar and then just glide, but then all you can do is glide bc you're out of stamina and if you dip to gain air speed you lose alt which you can't regain without resting (again, for four more entire minutes of your free time)
When gaining altitude tap the spacebar on the downstroke of the flying animation to conserve stamina. The jumping mutation doesn't save energy on the launch from holding the space bar. It only does that for normal jumps. Sustained Hydration is a good mutation for Ptera because it means you won't have to descend as often and waste stamina. It also keeps you away from the water's edge. Really any mutation involving water is good for it. Reticulate Kidney's pretty much gives you full range of the map as ptera including the islands. Hydrodynamic is good to help get to shore if you flub and fall into the water. Ptera has such trouble with that and it can be a game saver. Reabsorption used to be really good when paired with Sustained Hydration but I don't know how it holds up currently. There seems to be less rain now.
@@exequielandreoli9298 Sorry I meant reniculate kidneys, it's the mutation that lets you drink saltwater without getting dehydrated. You have to drink a bunch of saltwater in order to get the option to get it.
@@thibaultlahousse8158 I haven't played ptera in a while. There's been a couple updates since so I have no clue if that changed. It didn't used to be the case.
Some tips for this guy that I've picked up after playing it for so long that's not really said anywhere. Stamina is the biggest factor in pteranodon flight. Ascending rapidly is going to get you killed more often than you'd think it would. It will drain your stamina entirely after just a few seconds of doing so. Taking the extra time to ascend as slow as possible is going to net you a far more efficient stamina economy in the long run, but it'll cost you the time it takes to get there. Reinforced tendon does not work on takeoff, and because ascending is such a hassle, getting daytime speed will assist in getting from place to place as well as getting the height you need to see where you're going as the speed buff (albeit small) does affect pteranodon flight. You can now also regain stamina while latched when above 20% stamina, which you can do with airbrake and holding rmb. Returning to flight from a latchpoint costs no stamina but you'll be flying very slowly, so a very short burst of sprint can get you back up to speed quickly. Considering you can eat while latched it's the most efficient way to fish safely while costing next to no stamina. And speaking of fishing, you can in fact peck at the water surface where schools of fish are jumping out and grab one without needing to scoop the water and put yourself in danger of a deinosuchus crushing your lower jaw and ending your life prematurely. It's safer, but also harder to pull off. Practice makes better, though. You're in the most danger when you're reliant on fresh water sources and there's potential for a gator ambush. You don't offer much food, which should be a deterrent on its own, but deinos starve often and you're just as good of an option as any when desperate. Going for a coastal playstyle can help, getting reniculated kidneys or just being able to gain water during the rain will carry your bird to old age if played well. The less risk, the more reward with Pteranodon. But that's also very boring. My choice of mutations generally follows the narrative of speed first, water second, food third. I get daytime speed, saltwater or rainwater, and either reduced food digestion speed or cannibalism if I wanna spice it up and get into some dogfights.
Thank you Connor! Found pecking at the schools of fish to be easier than scooping. Scooping seemed kinda bugged at the time but the design of it is sick!
@@Even6 I'd like to make a correction on my comment regarding mutation selection. Currently, as of this patch Pteranodon gains a much larger speed buff while flying if it has Hydrodynamic, the swim speed mutation. Not sure why, probably not intended nor will it likely stay this way, but considering it's a 10% advantage over photosynthetic tissue or nocturnal, I would highly recommend using Hydrodynamic for now.
