    I brought my 2006 6.0 to Bill from Wisconsin. My local Ford dealer (V&H Ford) told me it was an injector issue. Bill found that a screw had run through engine and bent a valve. I had Bill do a dealer proof on it. That was 40 thousand miles ago. Truck now has 170k and runs perfect.
    Thanks Bill

    shows the quality of bills powerstroke service. someone "chose" to have their 6.4 either driven or transport to Georgia from queens new York just so bill Hewitt can fix their truck the correct way. thank you bill and keep the videos coming. -justin

    I just wanted to thank you Mr. Hewitt for haring your honest and unpolished insight into these motors etc. I'm still driving my 350 7.3 and tried your archoil fuel additive. I didn't doubt you but was surprised at the difference it made in my 330k truck cold starting up here in NYS. As a craftsman with 6 kids every dollar counts and you save guys like me from expensive repairs that shouldn't need to be done.

    I work for an airline. These trucks don’t tow baggage, they routinely pull up to 40,000 lbs of cargo pallets at 15 mph (airport service road speed limit) all day long. They’re workhorses. I’m surprised to see a 6.4 diesel one though

      posted before I was finished I was on a trip through Utah when the motor blew up took it to the Ford dealer and I must say excellent service they put long block motor for $15,800. This was in a 2010 F450. drove around town for a few days to make sure things were right hooked on to my trailer headed back to Oregon 1,100 miles later suck 4 gallons of water into the oil. They determine they must have missed a crack in the block at overhaul. Ford in Oregon replace the motor another long block. took off down the coast with the truck and trailer made it about 600 miles one of the injectors came apart took out the motor. Ford once again replaced with a long block motor .Tried it again we made it about 900 miles the fuel pump come apart took out the motor. They put another one in and I told the Ford garage to drive the truck around before they give it back to me and they lost a motor so I turned around and traded the truck in for $15,800 and I bought a 2016 F450 for $76,000 Shoulda listened to you Bill you said they were a throwaway at a hundred and fifty thousand miles and it was.

    • @wildcoyote34
      @wildcoyote34 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the reason people buy a diesel is for one reason , pulling power ,and longevity
      I personally don't own any ford diesels ,,I do however own several diesel powered vehicles and trucks
      the biggest of them is powered by a 12 cylinder detroit diesel
      and I also have a 1983 nissan truck with a 2.5 liter turbo diesel
      it has over 800K miles
      and my 1981 olds cutlass with a 5.7 liter diesel has 355,000 miles

    • @6point0powerstroker79
      @6point0powerstroker79 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Funny, Watching His Videos is why I now own a 2006 F250 6.0 .... as for why diesel... diesel trucks are stronger, use less fuel per ton of load, and have less OVERALL maintenance costs in the long run compared to gas..... and btw in some countries there isn't an option for a gasoline powered TRUCK. A diesel engine can go a million miles on a single rebuild (if they're properly maintained) find me one gas engine on the planet that's gone over a million miles pulling 20 tons of load without having been rebuilt at least twice and I'll buy it.

    • @erikkovacs3097

      I really don't get how a DPF delete would void the warranty. I mean removing it would take a huge load off the engine and increase reliability making it LESS likely you would be in to warranty anything. If something did happen they the onus would be on the Ford dealer that the DPF delete is responsible for the problem. It would be impossible to pin a DPF delete on a say a failed axle seal or leaky AC. If you're paranoid you can always keep the old parts and put the DPF back and no one would be the wiser.

    • @matthewnelson3578
      @matthewnelson3578 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @sparkplug1018
      @sparkplug1018 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Erik Kovacs, As much as I agree, deleting those items makes the truck more reliable, the warranty is based on the vehicle being kept and maintained in its stock configuration. Its also Fords way of making sure you don't break the law, at least for a little while anyway.

    Ever wondered what a 6.4 truck would go through as a NYC taxi cab? I think this is the closest match. GO - STOP - GO - WAIT - GO - STOP -REPEAT 24x7. I'd love to see the runtime on that ECU if that's recorded.

      D4x4Bronc great engines. I wish Ford would've stuck with the pushrod design for their gas V8s. 302 and 351 were workhorses. 300 was a great sixxer too.

    • @Blackneck1994
      @Blackneck1994 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      EpiDemic117 yeah for the most part everything is OHC. Only mass produced engines I know of that are still pushrod are the GM small block V8s, Chrysler Hemi V8s, and all the diesels in 3/4 ton and larger trucks we have. I prefer pushrod honestly. Keeps the heads a big smaller and like you said, simple.

    I just checked and the current price for the rebuilt engine from Ford is $14,003.00 with a $3200 core. (my guess is a 'rebuild-able' core). That sounds like a lot of money but I am going to have about $6000 in parts and machine shop (no labor) for the rebuild of my 6.4 that wasn't in bad shape. These trucks are a real financial commitment.

    Question: I bought my '08 used with over 100k on it. It was a fleet vehicle in the oil fields in northern MT and before that it was a tow vehicle on a ranch. I immediately had to replace the oil cooler and the torque converter but other than an electrical issue under the hood that required a new harness, it's been steadfast. I deleted all the emissions from it when it was in the shop getting the new torque converter replaced and had an H&S tuner added. I normally run it with the hottest tune but I never really get into it because I'm afraid of starving the injectors. And I like to keep my tires for more than one season. I rarely tow with it and it's my only vehicle now with 160k miles on it. When it goes, is it possible to drop a 6.7l crate motor in instead of another 6.4l?

    Man my f250 has cost me so much money since I bought it 2 years ago. first I paid 31k for it and 2 days later it was in the shop for new head gaskets and head studs, also dropped in a mishimoto radiator it ran fine for about 6 months it came with the minimax tuner and you're right that tuner grenaded my engine costing me more money for a complete rebuild. then less than 1k later it's back in the shop for a complete top end rebuild smh as soon as it's out this time I'm trading it in asap!!!! Don't buy the 6.4!!!!

    • @Mr42960
      @Mr42960 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You would have to have one of the tuners such as Jodie, shut off the pre injection shot of fuel that is introduced well before top dead center and is designed to light off early and soften the main ignition detonation.

    • @erikkovacs3097
      @erikkovacs3097 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      If someone will make a tuner to remove some of the pilot injections, that would increase the diesel clatter. The older Duramax's and Cummins I have noticed that if you disconnect the pressure control valve on the injection pump the fuel rail pressure pegs out at max (24,000psi) and it sounds like an old tractor. I've only done this for testing a few sec, never for driving around.

      Do a 100 mile+ drive It has it's own regen cycle but if you don't want to do that then you have to remove it and a shop that works on DPF can bake it clean (at 1300 degrees for 8 hours) but if it's the one piece dpf/def system they won't be able to because it will destroy the rest of the system.

    How hard is it to put a 6.7 into a 08-10 f350?

    • @6point0powerstroker79
      @6point0powerstroker79 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Assuming working alone in good shop environment
      Lift the body off = about 4 hours unplugging stuff and evacuating a/c
      Engine swap on open frame = 2-3 hours for pre-assembled engine
      Reinstall cab = 5-6 hours reconnecting wiring and filling a/c
      If not originally 6.7 the pcm would need changed over to the one for it IF the original truck harness has the right wiring support it or correct harness that can be ordered (if not then entire harness from truck would need to be merged with 6.7 harness including the gauge cluster and that means dash equipment wouldn't be as reliable and some things may not function or fit properly at all )

      One reason: Confidence in the work completed
      Bill Specializes in Powerstroke trucks and if quality is the main concern you always use a specialist because a specialist already knows exactly what to do and has usually made all the mistakes that others would still be unaware of

    We go through bobtail trucks like crack on the flightline. Air Force just throws them away after they blow up. The 6.0's lasted about a year at a best. 6.4's were deleted from the factory, and they made it maybe two years. 6.7L ain't doing much better.

      adrianspeeder The biggest issue with ford diesels is that won't ford settle for simple. They won't settle for a mediocre, average power rating. The biggest reason why Cummins engines are so reliable is that they're stone-age-stupid simple. Ford won't settle for that. Power strokes are like working on a space shuttle compared to a cummins. It all those highly advanced intricacies that are the downfall of ford diesels. But when they do all work as they should, the power strokes make killer power for their size.

      adrianspeeder they don't last long, but I'm in the service as well, and I see how people treat these trucks. There hard on them, don't let them warm up and just petal to the floor them all the time. Maintenance is neglected. Here in turkey, we have a 6.0 with 100k, and the other is at 50k. Just this morning I saw someone start there work truck and immediately put it in gear. Was 24*F

      Nathan Flightline rules require the truck to be off when out of the seat. Continuous starting and stopping while toting equipment from spot to spot just killed starters, turbos, and EGRs from never getting hot, and choking up with carbon.

    it's crazy I wish I could send you the other 2 we have here in miami One was running good till they thought it was a good idea to ford it through the drain after a large rain a had feel. someone I'm assuming in jfk as well thought it was a good idea to remove the splash gaurd from the passengers side wheel well. she drank alot of water then died out maybe 50 feet. one of the mechanics thought only to replace the air filter and not drain the cylinders. putting the biggest no no into the motor either or quick start. she blew the number 8 out the bottom of the motor. /sigh

      Blowing piston out bottom means block is done.. just swap in a motor. Any COMPETENT tech can put a motor in... (pistons can't fit through the bottom of the cylinder bore without destroying the main bearing support structure) and when buying rebuilt if you want reliability always get engine directly from OEM. everyone makes mistakes but the OEM has the warranty to cover their's.

    Can somebody explain to me what timing does to damage the engine?

    • @tristen8089
      @tristen8089 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mike Humphrey timing on a gas engine can cause misfires it can throw a rod which can blow a hole in the block.
      Timing can damage allot.
      Now as for diesel I have no idea what bad timing could cause.

    • @amandanowotny4919
      @amandanowotny4919 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Timing=Degrees of engine rotation the injector is firing. The closer you get to 40° the closer the piston is to the injector spraying high pressure fuel and can erode piston and cause cracking.
