    Hi Dawn and Matt. Very helpful; I'd only rent or commit after physically seeing the place. Great sketch of the possibilities. Thank you!

      Thanks for watching and we agree that we’d not rent a place without seeing it. Many people do, though, and it often works out (not all the time)

    I love my traditional Portuguese home! The tiles are exquisite!! So, the houses were built so that AC is not needed...We live slightly south of the silver coast and feel like we hit the jackpot! Price, weather, proximity to Lisbon, view and beauty, etc...WE LOVE it here and our mortgage on a 4BR 2B house is incredibly affordable! Nothing in the pruce range you mentioned and we have security and affordability!!

    I'm coming to Portugal in April/May to look for a property to rent for a year so this is a perfect video, I loved the more moderate weather in Lourinha so that will be a place to look at and I prefer close to the beach, the first apartment 1000 Euro is great for me. Thanks for this informative video

      Thanks for watching and best of luck with your scouting trip. We almost bought near the beach just southwest of Lourinha but we fell for Nazaré. But there are some many beach towns on the Silver Coast that feel undiscovered!!

    Loved the information. Great job. As for a selection we would choice something close to the beach.

    Those first ones were nice. That is my price range. Around $1000.00 usd. I need wood floors for my bad feet,knees, & legs. It’s going to be a challenge I realize, finding my place in Portugal. So I will definitely need help. I will spend my first years there exploring the country, & checking out my top 10 in the schenagan countries. Then who knows what.

    I love the traditional rentals...my home and rental are traditional, handpainted wall tiles floor to ceiling bathroom and kitchen tiles..after all, we are in portugal...I am 1.3 km from the Nazare south and north beaches, "sea" view from my bedroom, apartment living room and the most spectacular view of Peniche penninsula, Berlangas Islands and a wide view of the "sea" from the rooftop terrace..Nazare has recently been named the surf capital of the world..award ceremony moved from L.A. film screenings, workshops, surf art exhibits are here

    I started watching your videos last week and I love them. They are easy to understand and the topics are interesting. Thank you for sharing your experience. I am planning to move to Portugal in the first half of 2026 and my biggest concern is Medicare. Do you still pay for part B or stopped making the payments. How about if you come back to the US?

      Thanks for watching and your kind words! We’re not yet Medicare eligible so we can’t answer your question. However, you may want to consider joining the Facebook group Americans & FriendsPT. I’m sure there are people in that group who would know the answer. Best of luck!

    Thanks, this was very helpful - I think it is one of your best videos. It was not that clear if the properties were being let, furnished or unfurnished - are both options generally available? We are planning a move to Portugal and intend to rent to start with as we learn more about the country and locations. Also, as retirees, we would need to sell one of our UK properties to buy in Portugal as mortgage options are generally limited for older folk. Selling and buying is expensive, so we think the cost of renting is worthwhile to allow us to find the best location for us before committing to a purchase.

      if you are looking for a rental while you take your time looking for home to purchase..I have a rental in Nazare under 1000,00 euros, 2 bedroom furnished, sea view from living room window...close to both beaches..moderate weather

    I need help finding a rental for a scouting trip. Located in a prime spot for doing that scouting. For more permanent digs, once I’m ready to settle in, is a traditional home on a piece of land. Do they have budget plans in their energy bills? I’m on national grid’s budget plan for my 5th decade now. I love it.

    • @TheUnretirees
      @TheUnretirees  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for watching. In terms of budget plans, some may know more than me but you can sign up for different levels of electricity usage - sort of the max electricity you can use at any moment. We’re in a middle tier which works fine for us. The lower tier would cost less and to have a higher capacity would cost more. Not sure how much more or less the other tiers are though.

    I’d like to suggest that you put the name of the places/cities on the screen because we don’t understand the names of the places. For instance, for the price of €1800, I didn’t know the location of the houses. Would it be Lourinha? The second one just can’t understand at all. I’m looking to move there next year. I already know Portugal as I lived there for 3 years with the D7 visa. We were living in Cascais and we loved it. We are back in the US but we will be back before June 2025. We would like to live close to the beach in the silver coast in a place cheaper than Cascais. Good luck to you and Happy Holidays ❣️

    • @MelissaWoo

      I think you're correct about Lourinhã. The second one is Bombarral.

      Thanks for watching and for the very good feedback. On the €1800 ones, the first was in Lourinha and the second was in Bombarral. Best of luck on your future move here! We love it!

    Does your course cover taxe obligations in Portugal for expats?

      Thanks for watching and we’re not tax pros so it will cover things to consider but also a strong recommendation to talk with a pro who specializes in expat taxes in Portugal. We used FreshIP for those consultation calls. Thanks!!

    At the price points of many of the properties you showed why wouldn't someone just Buy a place? These rents closely resemble US rents . JP Porto

    • @TheUnretirees
      @TheUnretirees  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      A lot of people do! But here you need 20-25% down and then pay a transfer tax of 3-8% depending on the price, so in a €200,000 place, that’s coming in at €50,000 or so. Also, some people want to start as renters so they have an opportunity to figure out exactly where they want to live. Thanks for watching!!
