    Hi Chris, I am amazed with your art! I have worked with resin but always have so many bubbles and short working time to deal with. You don't seem to have this problem. Please tell what resins you have used and which you feel is best. Thank you!!!

      I get asked this all the time and I try and prompt people to think of resin properties rather than specific brands. I have 5 resins on the go at the moment ranging from low viscosity 2:1 to high viscosity 1:1 they all have different properties. Some take higher heat, have different working times, better for layering or for coating. I try not to get stuck with one type or brand because i learn more by being versatile. As for the bubbles that could be a few things, introducing them at mixing...... keep your stir stick on the bottom of your container. I drag my stir stick through the resin rather than around the container. You could be using a colourant that sink (some mica's and metallics do) when they sink they sometimes create micro bubbles, or you could be working a bit cold and that leads to delayed bubble release. I have between 20-40mins working time and I rarely get caught out with the sizes of pieces I am doing. The colourants you are using can speed up the process though if you Overload the resin.

    I'm just starting. I have all my supplies, but I need a tub like you pour over. Can you please tell me what it's called so I can track one down here in Texas? I enjoy your projects so much. It looks so neat and tidy the way you do it ni can't wait to get started.

      The Tub i use for the paint was an old camping sink. You can get tubes from discount stores. Look for underbed storage or similar.

    Hi Chris, a suggestion......pick up a small size kitchen funnel & slip it over your hairdryer. It will allow you to control the direction of the air flow a lot better by giving u a narrow nozzle. Works great, Cheers Kerrie

      Thanks for the suggestion. I have experimented with different hairdryers and the funnel. This one has the features I need to give me the right flexibility without spreading the mica too much.

      Hi Chris and Kerrie. I bought a while back a small air pump for my car, which can be used to blow the
      direction of the mica in a specific direction, similar would be an air pump for an aquarium. Thanks Danny. :)

      Hi Chris, I haven't started yet, will say that you are teaching me, how to use mica's for colour, in a great way. I have bought some of the materials. In the meantime will keep watching your video's. thank you Danny. :)

    Absolutely beautiful!!! I love watching you create these, thank you so much for doing all the videos you do and also explaining the whole process so clearly. You have given me the incentive to try my resin again which I have been having difficulty with lately, thank you 😀

    These are both gorgeous. Do you use canvasses or wood panels for your pours? I finished a flip cup painting with resin but it seemed to pool in the middle even though I tightened it as much as possible, so much so it was like a drum! Any hints on using resin on a canvas?

    • @crisscross104
      @crisscross104  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use a lot of wall tiles. They stay rigid and level. I use MDF rounds but mainly tiles. You need to really brace your canvas from underneath. I have a few wood panels that fit in the underside frames that I tape in place. Its tricky if you go larger than I do.

    Beautiful work! I have a question about the Mica Pigments. I know they are sealed in the Resin. My question is are the colours lightfast? Will they fade over time? Does the resin help with this? also where do you find such great mica pigments? Thanks for sharing your work!

    • @crisscross104
      @crisscross104  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The resin I use has UV protection so I am hoping this will help reduce the yellowing you get with resins. The Micas should hold their colour but none of these are old enough to test their longevity. I get the pigment powders from ebay. Search mica pigments candle making or soap supplies There are different grades of flake size so experiment with the look you want in your piece.

    hey chris is this epoxy rather than water based resin? if so what brand are you using please? do u usually use a respirator when using it as ive heard others do? oh and have you used any of the paper mill powdered mica pigments from riot art and craft? ...oh and youre a legend so lovin the pours on glass was about to start experiment myself but youve done the trouble shoot for me...😉

    • @crisscross104
      @crisscross104  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Marcy.. it is epoxy resin. I am not wedded to a particular brand because its expensive so i wait until i can find it on special or with coupons etc, I don't use a respirator because I don't like torching and the hairdryer does not heat the resin up to the temps that torches do. I have a lot of ventilation but I do recommend that if people can't set up with enough exhaust or ventilation then a respirator is needed.

      I haven't tried the papermill pigments. There are so many different products to try. I put it on my list 😄

    • @crisscross104

      I am in Australia and for these pieces I used mica pigment powders. I use a small scoop in the resin for each of the colours.

    is that black paint in the black epoxy or mica powders?

    • @crisscross104
      @crisscross104  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use black acrylic paint to colour the resin. Only a small amount. I tried using black ink but found a bit of bleeding into the mica's so I reverted back to paint

    Where do you buy your mica?

    • @crisscross104
      @crisscross104  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I buy the mica from ebay. but if you google soap and candle making supply places or local nail salons you will find all the wonderful colours

      Chris Cross would you mind sharing who you buy from? I ordered some on eBay 3 weeks ago and the seller has yet to ship! We're both in the states!

    • @crisscross104
      @crisscross104  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Ashley H I use colorperk or colorinsight on Ebay. They are in china and ship mostly next day. I am in Australia and the mica's take a couple of weeks to arrive.

      +Ashley H Something I discovered the hard way is that both these companies do not label their bags so don't make the mistake of buying lots of the same colour in different shades. I have 10 bags of white mica that I haven't figured out which colour they are. LOL One is a stunning silver and I have no idea what colour to re-order 😄
