Paul has spent too long dealing with big fish and salt water. Don't forget to brush up on your small freshwater fish care too. Cories need to be in schools and a 5 gallon is really only suitable for a betta or some shrimp. I like that you went for live plants. Your mom seems lovely. Please give her some cycled fresh water media to start her tank properly ❤️
@@JohnSmith-cq5quWhat about all the ones that survive? Bc his death vs success rate is very good. He has multiple big ponds/tanks full of fish thriving....along with an entire farm.
@@WillWilliams-vo4nkyou’re either not knowledgeable about fish or you just blindly defend Paul because you’re a fan. I love his videos too but criticism when appropriate is fine. The reason the fish in the big ponds do ok is because of the sheer volume of water. It’s more forgiving when ammonia spikes etc. He also doesn’t add all the fish straight away. In a small tank like this, there isn’t as much room for error and the fish will be stressed and more likely to get sick or die. The smaller the tank, the harder it is to manage water quality. Tanks like this 5 gallon should be cycled (and be stocked appropriately) and as a fish influencer to not do so is setting a very bad example.
@@WillWilliams-vo4nk his death rate is extremely high. He just never mentions it. Take a look at all of his “adding new animal” videos and there’s a very good chance they’re nowhere to be seen a few weeks later
Hey Paul, I see that you chose a couple ferns for her tank, keep in mind that you do NOT plant them into the substrate. They feed from the water column and will rot if the rhizome is covered
Yes I was thinking the same that..that and the Anubis are the same. Get their nutrients from the water column and if buried the rhizome is rot. Very beautiful and easy plants though.
I agree it should be a cycled tank..he did use quick start which is a bacteria. Though I recommend to have it fully cycled before adding fish..he isn’t as bad as others since he did at least add that. I had my highly planted tank without fish or anything in it for 2 or 3 weeks and then added them slowly. A few at a time.
Anubius and java ferns shouldn't be buried in active substrate, they will rot. Tetras need a minimum of a 20 gallon long tank. I like your content Paul but this is just poor husbandry. I get you have to make content frequently, but these are living creatures. A quick Google search should have told you these things in less than 2 minutes. Maybe you could do a video informing your audience about the importance of cycling a tank and waiting until the water parameters are good before you add live stock.
Hey Paul, I have been a big fan of yours for like 4 years at this point. I just wanna suggest to not put the rhizome of the Ferns and the Anubias in the substrate as they can rot really easily instead you could glue them to a small stone. Keep up the good work ❤.
Hi Paul, Long time viewer, love the content! I’d just like to mention that I love the idea of giving your mother a tank, but I suggest you brush up on your knowledge of the particular fish for this tank. Cory’s are a schooling fish and can’t really fit in a 5 gallon. Maybe upgrade to a 10 or 20! She will have a lot more luck and have a much more forgiving tank in the long run! I also highly suggest giving your mother some filter media from one of your own tanks to help kick start the cycle in the new one.
so much to talk about with this video... for one corries are a schooling catfish. they need 5-6 other corries for them to thrive. neons need to be in larger groups as well and shouldn't be housed in anything smaller than a 10-15 gallon. the snail and some cherry shrimp or skittle pack shrimp would look lovely in it as a better and safer option.
adding onto my comment, its a myth that you need plant substrate to have live plants. root tabs are also a great option where as "plant substrate" can be just blatantly expensive.
1:20 That turtle eating its food from Paul’s grip knows how to really live without needing to know shit. 😮💥🙌❤️ He made the absolute most of the situation at hand, and his temporary hunger was satisfied! So amazing life is, as it is! The turtle didn’t complain or try to overcome the situation as if it were a limitation and shouldn’t be happening to the turtle. The turtle demonstrated there are no real limitations and nothing really to worry about. It didn’t run to seek solace in beliefs and stories to feel comfortable in its own discomfort, which ironically trying to escape discomfort only intensifies and prolongs it. Even wanting to escape the discomfort feeds the discomfort. The turtle wasn’t doing what nearly all humans seem to be doing …always trying to do the impossible, always trying to change whatever it is that seems to be happening as it is happening. And it’s all because of their belief that it shouldn’t be happening to me. And the funny thing is, as the turtle wisely demonstrated just by being itself, there is nothing separate that life is happening to. There is just life happening and no turtle is so delusional to assume they are somehow someway separate from the whole that is life itself. Do you really believe that life itself can sustain an entire universe and not take total complete care of your body’s needs even better than you think you can?? That turtle is really living it up. All the while humans are oddly constantly thinking, thinking, thinking, fighting, judging, justifying, strategizing, manipulating, and always trying to negotiate with life. Humans try to negotiate with life selfishly because they really believe they are somehow someway separate from what all appears to be life itself in all its totality. So humans try to do the impossible and negotiate with life to fit what we imagine would be better than what life already is providing which is already full in itself, all needs are met by life, not your ego or body. So life as it is, opposed to what you think it is and what you imagine would be better, is completely missed and you’re not really living life at all. That turtle is infinitely wiser than “I” will ever be. 😂❤🐢🐠
Cories are schooling fish, they should be kept in a group together so they feel safe and protected. I would never personally trust Petsmart on most of their “ minimum tank sizes” neons need to be kept in a school of at least 5 but in a much bigger tank like 10-15 gallons. Also the ferns with rhizomes need to be above the substrate not buried, like attached to gravel, a rock, or driftwood, or else they will melt and die. Also you should not cyphen substrate, it will disturb the contents inside, ruin its quality, and will just dirty up the tank. To naturally get all the junk out instead using stem plants or foreground plants would be a good option, or replace the Cory with some shrimp to clean it up as well. I know you have been busy with bigger fish Paul and saltwater, but those are my tips on freshwater plants and fish
I would recommend having a least 3 or more corys in that tank because corys are schooling fish and having 1 isn't right. Anyways, keep up the great work and I love your vids.
paul you inspired me to keep trying new things within the fish keeping hobby I just purchased a cubed 3gallon, aqua scaped it using trimmings from my 20 gallon and O transformed it into a shrimp heaven. I’ve had a few shrimp before but never a tank dedicated to them and I must say i’m super pumped I watched ur video earlier and I was like “damn I wanna set up a new tank” it’s the cuffaro effect
Looks beautiful! Hope your parents enjoy it! Love the little tank content! It would be great if you set up a gourami tank (if you do a powder blue would look sick)! Keep it up! Congrats on almost 3 mil! Hope this comment makes you happy!
Just a fun little suggestion for anyone with tanks, get black craft paint and paint the back of your tank. The black background really makes your fish and plants pop.
