Keep in mind those copper skins can ‘roll up’ and cause a harsh spin. The rolled up excess can be carefully trimmed.

Use novus 2 instead. It removes all deep down dirt. Also makes it slick for better play.

Slick is bad. You need friction between ball and rollers as well as some cross-way slip to rotate the encoder wheels through the optical sensors. That is why he recommends Windex, an ammonia based cleaner too remove oil buildup from hands. Smooth surfaces is the ideal and badly worn rollers and ball irregularity can impede operation. Bearings may get rough and use of a pin oilier can revive VOCs lost from the grease but only a small or partial drip. Do not soak or flood bearing with oil. It will get everywhere.

0:43 you be colour blind. Blue/Purple be up/down. Red/Black be centre pins on both optical axes boards that power the sensor with +5V and Gnd.

Soak the bearings in wd40 for a full day. Clean and dry them! Do not let wd get on the plastic.

Wd40 eats metal surfaces. It's great fie breaking rust loose.

Water Dispersant 40 is not a lub. Designed for NASA and rocket fuel/oxidizer not to go bang bang when water condensate freezes. You need a dab of grease and drip of oil to keep the metal surfaces lubricated over time. Correct amount is the art.
