I was a 15 year old kid in Sweden. Even though I was across the globe listening to another country's president elect, I remember crying. It was so moving and in its foundation not only American but truly human. We are one. And people across the world heard the message and the world was a little better for a little while.

I remember listening raptly to that speech. I'm from Holland, was a kid at the time, and was quite tired of being blasted by overseas politics at that point, but this struck me. I remember writing in my diary how cool it was that a guy like him could become president, and how much hope it gave me for the world at large. I know things like that can happen again. I want to believe we're on the right course, still, despite or maybe because of setbacks that show how not to do things. Fingers crossed for the future.
It feels so good listening to him speak. It's like, ah, our country is in good hands.
“Us with Them” works much better that “Us vs Them”... if everyone works together to find a middle ground, more will be done than if everyone is constantly fighting. Take of this what you will.
