    Everyone should pay attention to Greg's humor. That's how you survive in this type of industry. It's obvious how hard Greg works but his spirit can really shatter any built up cynicism one may acquire jousting through the business. He's the only person I can think of like him, hilarious, fun, lighthearted and a seriously devasting player with no ego or pretense. He's really the best

    First, there was the Dave Gregory episode, and I thought that TPS couldn't get any better than that. Then there was the Ed O'Brien episode, and I thought that TPS couldn't get any better than THAT. Now you give me Greg Koch - who wasn't even on my radar until now - and I'm thinking, "Dear god, they did it. TPS can't get any better than THIS." Amazing. This episode was flat-out inspirational - and all with almost no talk of pedals! Thank you guys so much.

    Oh my goodness!!!! Best TPS yet...we got to really meet Greg Koch (it felt like), and know his thoughts, his gear and a flavour of his music. What fun he projects through his masterful use of the guitar. The Koch Combo sounds so clear and full range, those Fluence pickups are wonderful too. Mr Koch is a 'no bullshit' chap, I like him immensely. It was a great band sound, and quite intimidating I'm sure for you two to jam with Greg, but you pulled it off well, and added to the band sound. I was amazed that the bass was played on the Hammond, also a truly glorious sound in its' own right. I could sit through hours of this music, many thanks to Simon for the editing and mix. For me, it all came together for TPS in this video..perfect :)

      Evan Miller What kind of car did Greg have? I was wondering what he might drive before I read your comment. He’s got such a unique style about him. I met him at a smallish music festival. We were checking out the same band. I didn’t want to bug him, but nodded and smiled. He actually walked over and struck up a conversation with me. This was 20 years ago. I was extremely impressed by how courteous and humble he is.

    Years ago I took my son, a budding drummer, to a Fender clinic at a local music store in the idyllic little Northern California town of Chico. That was our first exposure to Greg, and we have never forgotten it. He is the most entertaining and incredibly talented guitarist I’ve ever seen and he was just there to demo Fender stuff. His random banter is brilliant. My son was 13 or 14 and I’m so glad we ran into him so he could experience the Gristle King. I couldn’t believe there was only a handful of people there, I think it would be different now that TH-cam has made it possible for the world to see who Greg is. I’m a fan forever. Great watching Greg crack up the TPS guys.

    I've met Greg a couple of times at Sweetwater's Gearfest. He's REALLY that funny and witty, ALL THE TIME. Such a really cool guy, who makes everyone feel like they've been friends for years. I saw him pushing a rig across the parking lot, and thought to myself, why is this Guitar Hero, of mine, pushing his own rig across a parking lot ? So I came up behind him and helped push a road case that he was pulling by himself. He was his usual very funny and witty self, and Thanked me for helping. I just always remembered what a humble, funny, great guy he was. Aside from what a GREAT PLAYER he is.

    TPS, on behalf of the audience, thank you for such a great video and interview. You guys asked all the questions I would have asked. Learned things about Greg and his history I hadn't known (and I've followed him for years). Had the opportunity in 2017 to see Greg in Austin, TX and take a master class from him. He's very giving with his knowledge and filled our brains with all sorts of goody morsels. I chewed on those knowledge nuggets on my drive home to the New Orleans area (7 hour drive) and listened to the six Greg Koch CDs I bought from him. I'll cherish that trip for eternity.
    @Mick, did you finally acquire a vintage Strat? I haven't been on the interwebs much lately and you mentioned purchasing a black Strat. Is there a video on this guitar (perhaps I should just check the TPS TH-cam channel. LOL)

    What can I say, other than: THANK YOU. All smiles here. This amount of humour, virtuousy playing, tones for days and weeks and months, discussion, appreciation, dedication and most of all - being excited of the peresent moment - this is the best what I´ve seen or hear...just best. Thank you.

    GREG WAS RELENTLESS!!! There’s now a fine but discernible film of coffee on my monitor and keyboard from, not one but, TWO instances of a poorly timed sip of my morning joe. I Dan doesn’t need hernia surgery after this!

    If you happen to be in the North Woods and you see a very tall, dark shape tramping quietly away, it's a Sasquatch. If you happen to be in the North Woods and you see a very tall, dark shape headed toward you with a guitar in hand, it's Greg Koch. One is real. The other is unreal.

    The dude on the organ must have two brains...I initially thought there was a bass player off camera...but no. His left hand is in it's own "spaciousness" while the right hand doles out tasty B3 licks! Nice! Of course Greg's trickery is always entertaining as well as nutritious! He's the only guy I know that can properly use the word Shploidal...

    Gregg is a genius I compare him to a psychotic version of tommy Emmanuel among the greatest guitar players on the planet.

    • @Glicksman1
      @Glicksman1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I know that you’re kidding and that you like Greg, but using words like “psychotic” even in jest is dangerous and, in this case, completely inappropriate. Language has meaning and consequences particularly when publicly uttered. Psychotic disorders are severe mental disorders that cause abnormal thinking and perceptions. People with psychoses lose touch with reality. It’s a serious and tragic illness and ought not be applied loosely. I’m certain that you did not intend to say that you think that Greg Koch actually suffers from such an illness. Just saying.

    Just what I needed: a great big Koch injection! Absolutely fabulous show, gents.
    Quick question - what are the chances we might get a vlog or something going over how you set up/mixed the jam at the end? It sounded legit good. I feel like you guys could teach a lesson on how to capture a small band in a small space.

    • @ThatPedalShow
      @ThatPedalShow  4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Maybe we can persuade Fraser to do that. But nothing too tricky. Glyn Johns method for the drums, single mics on the guitar amps, stereo pair on the Leslie horn and a ribbon on the bass. Mid-side room mics. Loads of spill everywhere then just clean it up with EQ, compression and limiting. Nice! Having a great band who knows how to play together is the hardest bit. But when you’ve got that, recording them is relatively simple. Although knowing your EQ to mitigate some of the spill/phase issues takes a bit of time.z 4 years training in Frasers’s case! Cheers!
