      Only variable i can see in that is that bad leaders create leaders as well. The dichotomy is the ones that turn out bad as well and the ones that observed the horrid patterns of the bad leader and said to themselves "ok this is what NOT to do"

    People who love themselves don't complain they find joy in the little things. People who complain have self loathing and therefore cannot find joy in anything. If they are miserable they want you to be miserable. Misery really does love company.

    a chronic complainer becomes impossible if they just want to complain aren't open to help, new idea's or chance. best thing you can ask them in my opinion is what do you want and what do you wish to accomplish by doing this (without judgment) but most of the time people don't even know why they are doing what they are doing

      leaders always take the time to listen... the problem is when the people who shouldnt be in those positions end up there, that's when we end up in the majority of corporate structures in the western world

  • @TerryWadeThompson
    @TerryWadeThompson 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    I used to do something similar to this. If people would complain I would hold them accountable for what they were complaining about and made them fix it. After having to be the one to fix the issue and held accountable for it a shift in mindset began to happen. Either issues would get fixed before anyone complained about it or the complaining just stopped. Listening is powerful. You always have to have your ear to the ground listening to what is going on whether it is good or bad and you can catch things before they become a complaint. This is valuable because all it takes is one complainer to infect the team so the leader needs to squash that before everyone's energy gets drained.

    The cool part about this too is that you get a much better sense of the character of the complainer when they follow through with their plan. They grow and your relationship with them evolves. Whether the outcome is positive or negative, it’s a new opportunity to inspire others and yourself to stay humble and lead with a clear head.

    This is a simple but very good and important point. A lot of the time we don't listen and we want to just interject because we are on two far spectrums of a conversation like Echo started saying at the end of the video. Whether you highly disagree with someone and you want to put your 2 cents in to "correct" them or you highly agree with someone and you want to blabber about what you like. The me, me, me starts kicking in. A general rule of thumb I do is give 3 seconds for a persons pause if I can't gauge them since they might be someone I just met. Use your best judgement.

    I am a firefighter and acting officer at my work. Today I was talking to a young man and the subject of pushing buttons come up. This individual said he didn't understand why you can't knowingly push a person's most interpersonal buttons. What i mean is you know for a fact a person has a mother with a disability and that it would be insensitive to bring this up. I asked him if he brought that up knowing it would make that person mad what does that make him. He said it would make him an ass^#,& but he still didn't know what is wrong with that. I don't understand knowing this makes you an ass$^#& why would you continue. Keep in mind I remained calm during this conversation and he is not pushing my buttons i just don't understand this behavior

      We had one guy on the team I was managing who was a chronic complainer. He kept suggesting very expensive solutions to problems that have very low revenue. I should have said his negativity was hurting the team, but he already hated the entire business concept. I use to tell myself "Don't play politics at work, it only harms the environment. Just do the best with whatever you have, and be glad you have it." That was a big mistake. We ended up loosing everyone on the team after he came in, and then he quit. It might as well have been an infiltration and sabotage from a competitor.

How to keep your sanity for example when you grew up knowing that one of your parents hates you ? My self value till today ( I am now 33 ) is still based on the fact that if my own dad couldn't love me , why any one should ? Regardless of how accomplished you are , the sum of you will forever be 0 , this is driving me mad , filling me with endless anger and confuses my moral compass. Speaking as a chronic interrupter, it's a selfish move. I almost always feel like I'm adding something and not trying to be an ass, but 9 out of 10 times it can wait the few required seconds/minutes for them to finish. Also, the other party will listen to me more if I show the same courtesy. Polite people will deal with it but respect you less for it...as a result you may never realize how badly you are shooting yourself in the foot day to day.

      It's a weird one. In the business sense if you fire someone it means you've failed to integrate them into the team. (I had this happen to a team I managed). I handled it all wrong. I figured I would show him how it works, and give him as much control as he wanted. But, it turned out he didn't want any control. Over the course of 2 years everyone who worked with him quit because he turned them against the job. I should have fired him before his sickness spread. I worked with an amazingly frustrated guy (same team, before complainer guy). He was pissed and had criticisms, but it was clear he wanted to do a great job. He was always helping out, doing more than he needed to, and generally he got a little more out of the rest of us just by example. Not a guy I'd want making decisions, but he was a complainer that made everyone better. The other guy just made everyone resent the job.

      @@interfilamentar413 From an elite, high stakes team perspective, that is why you have selection. Identify those that are capable and have the desire to perform at an elite level for a long time. Unfortunately, you lose some of the good ones to circumstance and create some bad ones under changing circumstances (almost always domestic), but each sequential selection refined the overall quality. That is part of the point of things like business schools and rigorous academic sieves. The downside being the development of arrogance and not confident competence in some who will go on to fuck up big time because of their arrogance.

      Distinct difference between "promotion and granting someone with the care of others"...and "putting them in charge of something". It is possible an attempt at addressing standards issues led to a move that caused contention.
      Your situation and your take on it is interesting. If the good to go guys were 'good to go'...in what way were they good to go? Did they improve the team leaders that were lacking? Did everyone support improvement of everyone? Did the 'good to go guys' think they needed to improve? Or did they think they are 100% fine, based on comparison to those who were lacking? Aside from the attempt at being in team leader billits, what else did your E7 do to improve their personal standards? Did anyone bring any of this up to the E7? Did the E7 possibly have other intentions (e.g. putting them more in the spotlight will both highlight the need to improvement as well as encourage it)? Was it not even the E7s decision to do so (maybe they disagreed with it but followed through with it)?
      I am not making any judgement call - just asking the questions. These are the types of things to really, really think about. You have to truly constantly question yourself and even those you look up to, and really consider if all that can be done is being done. Also consider if the 'right' things are being done, or are ineffective things being done.

How would you suggest overthrowing them if you in fact wished to at least take them out of leadership not necessarily replace them because someone close to you is better? sorry this is so poorly worded and I don't know a better place to put this question by the way cuz you have nothing and your about section thank you

    yeah unless you have someone who, instead of empathizing with the leaders around them, has such a victim mentality that every time they're put in charge of something they reach the conclusion that they are just incompetent and dumb, and after they cry about it they make someone else should do it and then complain that they're doing it wrong
