Not sure what's going on but I continue to shock my tub and and I have bromine tabs in a dispenser and by the next morning it's showing zero free chlorine and zero total chlorine and Bromine. Also thank you for being the only person to talk about getting to 10ppm no one else has mentioned that at all..... I would have never known. Thanks for giving a measurement as well. Aww thank you so much.... I appreciate it. First off are you sure you are not bleaching out your test strip? IF you are confident that is not the case. I would suggest adding 2-3 tsp of bromine concentrate test the water about 10 minutes later if you are not at a 10ppm you still have the problem. Repeat the process. Clean your filters really well. I hope this video can maybe explain what is going on.... th-cam.com/video/lUSUnMeIwlA/w-d-xo.html let me know if you need more help.
That would be correct. If you are high alkalinity and are struggling to get it down you can start the chlorine sooner. But yes this is the correct order!
Failed miserably on start up. Day 7. No minerals but can’t seem to get PH and Alkalinity down. Chlorine reading is not maintaining levels. Tub says salt is high. I have an HS Altria. Thinking of draining down a quarter and starting over to see if the levels come down.
So is the salt high on the test strip or the control pannel? Trust the test strip first. If it is high you will have to drain. The chlorine will not stabilize until you get the pH an alkalinity in line. Start with the alkalinity. It can take up to 18 days to get it in line. Can take 3 tablespoons of oh Decreaser a day depending on where you start. Here is a link to help with that. www.thehottublady.co/blog/tips-for-balancing-hot-tub-water. Then balance the pH. I typically have all my salt water hot tub customers start with their salt cell on 7 and add 3 tablespoons of chlorine every day for the first 3 days.
We have a salt water tub, doing my best to balance levels. Then all of a sudden me and my husband get hot tub rash. Is this because of high alkaline? It's better now because I balanced the ph but do I need to "shock" my water? Newbie 😊
@@rossilynmctee5317 hot tub rash is Usually caused by low sanitizer however, if you have high pH and alkalinity, your sanitizer will be lower than it normally is it takes three times the amount of sanitizer if your pH is high, you shock once a week
I got tired of the dip strips for accuracy and purchased an actual chemical drop kit for testing. Pleased with it. We put a tsp of sanitizer for each of us after getting out and turn on the clean cycle. Our tech who came out to service told us to put the chemicals at the far side opposite the filter and turn on the jets to circulate
It isn't unheard of. That typically means that you have a lot of combined chlorine in the hot tub. It should burn off very quickly. Make sure the jets are running and the cover is off. Should be gone in a couple of hours.
How long does it take for the combined chlorine to come down after shocking it. It's been 24hrs and my combined chlorine is still high. Should I shock it again?
You absolutely can. Just keep in mind that it takes longing to come back down to a safe level then an oxidizer. I use chlorine to shock my hot tub all the time

Great question. They are both halogens and are epa approved sanitizers. I prefer chlorine as it is more forgiving. I feel that bromine is harsher on the body and the hot tub as it is a bit more acidic and you fight with your alkalinity a bit more. However when bromine becomes a combined molecule it is a bromamine and it is still sanitizing vs a chloramines when they become combined molecules. They both work well. I prefer Chlorine.
