    As many had pointed out in the comment section, there's a "fix" for the LCD screen by carefully remove a thin layer on top: th-cam.com/video/IdoDaZsCeds/w-d-xo.html
    Some think this is almost like Sony had already put a screen protector on top. Still why don't make it durable at the first place? I love my a7SII but still... annoying!

      @magicalsnek 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Lok Cheung as far as I understood the issue, a second layer of protection won't help against the effects you're facing. I'd simply replace the protective film with another one and you're fine. No need of two layers of protective films.

    • @MetalexoAlberto
      @MetalexoAlberto 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It isn't a protective film, it's an anti-glare film. People make the mistake of peeling it off. The best thing is just to add a screen protector on top of the anti-glare layer from new.

    • @rdumont99
      @rdumont99 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is in fact the factory-installed screen protector (google it). You can peel it off and replace it with an aftermarket screen protector, I've done so and it works great to fix the issue.

    • @dm976
      @dm976 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rdumont99 If you are patient you can remove it easily. Did that to 5 cameras now and it worked every time. The problem is usually caused by protective screens that damage the anti glare film. Peel it of and its brand new. Make sure you havea protector to fit afterwards, this obiously only works once ;)

      Waste of money, it comes with a sceen protector but the glue is not any good so thats way you after a while get this weird bubbles under and then it's just take it of and put on a new screen protector.

    • @dm976
      @dm976 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Removing the screen protector after it sat there a while can cause this damage too.
      The adhesives react with the anti glare film, you will probably see it when you remove the protector so better leave it on ;)
      After peeling off the anti glare film the colours look better and brighter in my opinion, but might be subjective.

    Sony camera got a screen protector right off the factory. That smudge scratch is actually on the screen protector. You can peel it off and replace it with the one.

      It isn't a screen protector. It's an anti-glare film.

    Lok! You can just peel off the screen coating and replace it with a screen protector. Sony basically puts on a clear-plastic film on the screen, it’s easily removable by picking at it with your nails from one of the screen corners. Just slowly pull off the film after this and replace it with any fitting screen protector. You can easily do this yourself, I do this for customers in the store a lot!

    • @TheLokCheung
      @TheLokCheung  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hessel Folkertsma Yes I’ve seen a video about this too. It’s still weird that it seems only Sony has this problem

    • @HesselFolkertsma
      @HesselFolkertsma 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Lok Cheung Actually, the way I see it is they’re the only ones that provide a free screen protector ;) ... even though it’s flimsy and easily scuffed. I’m quite happy it’s on there since it means we don’t have to send customers cameras to Sony for expensive repair!

  • @EmmaRides
    @EmmaRides 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Lok, you can remove that actual screen anti glare and put a glass protector. It's a plastic film that sony put on most of their cameras. Take a close look on the corner, you'll be able to peel it off with something sharp (e.i: Razor Blade)

    Great tips! You're also a great example of someone not letting a language barrier get in the way of producing content. I'm waiting on my A7 ii to get back from being repaired. I dropped it with a shotgun mic attached and the audio jack got messed up. Great camera, just don't drop it too many times! It's held up well with the exception of that one drop.

    Thanks Lok for all the useful tips... Its a bit late for a screenprotector but the rest is sure usefull. The expensive option to a better battery life is the fantastic battery grip. It drains one battery completely dry before using the second - taking me through a day of shooting stills and video.

    I stopped using screen protectors back when they were just flexible plastic because they feel bad. But now with the advent of cheap tempered glass screen protectors, I am a fan again. The glass screen protectors are much easier to put on without bubbles underneath, and feel fantastic when using the touch screen. I use them on my phone, tablet and cameras now.

    I typically use a battery grip for both my Sony a7R II and Sony a6100 cameras. I found that Sony cameras relatively have a small body form factor which leaves my pinky finger hanging, the extended battery grip cures both problems, it allows me to have two batteries in the body of the camera, a longer more secure fit, and I can shoot both vertical and horizontal. Problem solved. just my thoughts - Semper Fidelis🇺🇸

    Keeping the external power pack in your pocket is great if you are shooting in very cold weather because the batteries die fast and suddenly in the camera. I wish there was a device like the battery that would directly power the camera. I think there used to be one for my Camera 5D mk something. A direct power source.

    The screen may look bad but it’s just a layer of film that is damaged. For around 10 USD you can purchase a replacement and it will look brand new. I tried to sell my a7rii with the screen looking very similar to yours and was told my screen was too damaged to be sellable. After I received my replacement it took about 2 min to swap it out.

    For hack 2. I personally think it's not a good idea to use finder and monitor switch function. It's quick. But you'll lose your power even quicker. There's a checkbox in a73's menu(I think it should have the similar setting in a72 series), select turn-off display. Then you can easily switch the display method by click "DISP" button, including this "turn-off display". That's truly turn off your display. Save your power when vlogging.

    • @TheLokCheung
      @TheLokCheung  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No I can’t find the off option for display button, also this mean you have to cycle through different display mode unless you have only one on and one off? I also guess switching to viewfinder won’t use more power right?

    • @dtsMQG
      @dtsMQG 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok. What I found is, according to Sony official website description. "BATTERY LIFE (STILL IMAGES)
      Approx. 610 shots (Viewfinder) / approx. 710 shots (LCD monitor) (CIPA standard)". You can find the similar explanation for all a7 series. The viewfinder truly uses more power for shutting. My fault is they haven't mentioned about the battery life for video recording.
      For A73, the setup for "turn-off display" is from Menu, Tab 2, Page 6/9, "disp按钮“, "显示屏“, please select "关闭显示屏“. You are right. need to cycle the display mode. But what i just found is, this disp setting is also saved in your customized setting. If you have your customized 1 or 2 setting only used for recording. Maybe you can use only 2 display modes from setup including this "turn off the display". Then the DISP button will become an ON/OFF button. And it will not affect other customized camera modes.
