    They do have a bad reputation but the one I have is a 1966 , 628 with all metal gears has been a great machine. Mine was a thrift store rescue that came with all the original accessories and all the top hats. I’ve had it for over 20 years, it’s easy to keep maintained and serviced. It’s, in my opinion right up there with the more popular 401 and one of the best kept vintage sewing secrets.

      You're so lucky to have all of the accessories and top hats!

    In the attachment box was a "finger guard" to attach to shank and with the slow speed option it was "safe" for a kid to chain stitch as she would on a toy chain stitch machine for a kid (or just regular or deco stitching)....the Singer slant needle walking foot sold for about 20$ and there were other Singer sets of deco, alphabetic design cams sold. Even though there is a button holer on the maachine you could still also buy a slant needle buttonhole attachment.

    The feed dog on my 758 has a rubber component. It needed to be replaced and I had to bring the feed dog to a dealer for a proper fitting of the rubber component. Luckily they had what I needed in stock. So that's another complication surrounding this machine which you didn't mention. Thanks for the video.

    Bobbin thread at beginning of winding sometimes gets "loops" as red thread example....I think the hook catches the thread....most times just snip off the loops sticking out of the bobbin and continue sewing...I've never had to remove thread from the bobbin. My grandma bought me a Singer Golden Touch n Sew with the Greenbriar desk Cabinet with all the discs in 1967 when I turned 20. Yes, I have other great much newer hi-end machines...but for seam stitching on my quilts, I use this machine. In '65, my grandmother also brought me a White Singer FeatherWeight in the green n cream carrying case to take with me to college. I loved sewing long sleeved empire waist dresses on the FW using light-med wt deco fabric. Albuq.

    I bought a Touch & Sew 620 in a cabinet the other day in a thrift store. I used the cabinet for my Singer 66. This Touch & Sew has a bottom cover with feet making it really stable outside of the cabinet. Sooner or later I’ll get around to oiling it and trying it out. I’m especially looking forward to the bobbin winding.

      I kept the Touch & Sew 620 in the cabinet and bought a cabinet for my Singer 66. I do like the Touch & Sew - it has metal gears and those fashion discs and other accessories for it are very nice. I’ve tried monograms too but not the chain stitch just yet.

      @@sandyechev The chain stitch is very useful for basting!

      you need oil (runny) with the spout....BUT u also need a tube of thick Singer lubricant for the gears, etc.

    Thanks for this first-hand information. You covered enough to give me insights to this machine I just street-acquired (with case and cabinet to boot!). Remindful of the sturdy old Pentax camera, for students also - proven winners for beginners. Works for me!

    Thanks for the info! I have this machine, I thought was 1965, not sure now... I need the bobbin and it don't have any disks. I am so excited to figure out this machine, it seems to run great...

      They made them for several years, so yours could be the same machine from a different year.

    Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us.
    I have learned a lot.
    I have a Model 635 and I'm missing the manual any advice where can I locate a copy of it?
    Thanks in advance.

      You are very lucky… The # 620 with metal gears was only made in the Spring of 1966. By the fall of 1966 the gears became plastic and the motor and foot control became "solid state"...

    Only the top of the line Golden Touch n sew that you are showing has option of speed. The bottom cover of all these machines look warped...but they were manufactured at another location and the covers were made slightly too big and will not fit around the front bottom edge. where the "gap" is. The new machines were sold like that.

    Love your positive feedback on this machine. I was lucky to have gotten a free 645 in original cabinet with buttonholer and fashion disks.
    Looking for a video on how to use those, but just going through the built in stitches on machine without a manual was several hours work.
    I tried to label the stitches on my sampler with a fine Sharpie 😁

    Where do you buy your bobbins from? I bought a 2 pack from a sewing shop (have black not white rings) and it's too big. Thanks for the positive Touch & Sew video.

      Oh dear! All of mine are true vintage. Several came with the machine and some others were gifted to me by a friend. I would try searching eBay, probably, if I needed more.

    No mention of the two-speed motor control? No mention of the chain stitch?

    • @twinsnneedles

      Mine doesn't have two-speed motor control. I do need to do a demo of the chain stitch, because that's a great feature!

    Instead of wasting thread and unscrewing the bobbin ....just snip the loops off of thread sticking out of the bobbin OR/AND sometimes just pull thread sticking out, then put bobbin back in and sew. Also if the edge of bobbin plastic is "splintered" a little use a very fine grit of the nail file for acrylic nails....the white or pink file to lightly buff the edge of bobbin...they are still selling the particular bobbins on line.

    Hi. I just purchased this machine. The hook on the needle threader does not line up with the eye of the needle. Does yours line up? It's such a mystery. I almost think that it needs a shorter needle.

    • @twinsnneedles
      @twinsnneedles  ปีที่แล้ว

      Mine does line up, but it is very fiddly to use.

      .. again. Rather discouraged at cost involved, only getting a few small basic projects done at each time. Hoping to learn to set timing as needle keeps hitting the bobbin case/ not sewing. Either learn to fix, get another machine or give up trying to learn to sew..

    • @twinsnneedles
      @twinsnneedles  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm sorry to hear it's giving you so much trouble. It could be a timing issue. I would try to reset the timing, but if it keeps slipping, it's possible that some of the gears have worn out and can't stay in time.
