So I have a 2009 Lexus rx350 and my airbag light turned on today, I tried to rest it but the light is still on. Any advise?

That first code was misleading, nice to see it was a simple calibration fix after all. I wonder how this happened. In the old days a simple removal of the negative pole of the battery would reset almost everything.

I wish that the battery disconnect would still reset modules but it seems like most modern vehicles set a dozen codes if the battery is disconnected.

Great informative video but most people can not afford a snap-on scanner. With that said there is a guide online, just search "How to read and clear Lexus airbag YOUCANIC " It has a link to a few scanners that are in the $100 range.

I have a 05 lexus es 330, and that light came on and stays on. I wasn't in an accident. Is there a simple fix without just clearing it with a scanner?

Mines like that too. Does it turns off by taking off the negative battery? Because inhad to take the batt off when i replaced my starter.

I have a B1150 Code on my 2004 Highlander 3.3l LTD, I noticed my passenger seat doesn't detect people when they sit, can that cause a SRS to stay on?

      👍🏻 Good luck!!!!
What scantool are you using to perform the reset? I just like to know if other tools have the reset available.

@@ThePracticalMechanic I'll let you know. But it's one of those expensive snap on scan tools.

      Finally found my previous comment.
Yes it worked. I just did it one hour ago with snap on scanner of my buddy who's a mechanic.
Same snap on scanner like yours. When I read the code it gave me the same code you had. Although I have had this code for two years now but it's been bothering me within after someone hit me from the rear with no damage at all.
However, with your help and exact step you showed in this video I have been able to recalibrate and clear the airbag code.
Thanks so so much. I'm grateful.

My 2008 RX’s airbag light came on. I thought this video would show how to turn the light off sans a scanner... 😡

I’m sorry to disappoint but the title does say with a scanner. Most resets on newer cars require a scanner of some sort to diagnose and reset warning lights. Have a great weekend.

What type of scan tool do you have? You will need a compatible scan tool to perform the reset. If the reset won’t work you may need to check under the seat for any objects that could give false readings. It’s also possible that the sensors are damaged and will need to be replaced.

I have a 07 and mine came on today. I just simply moved the passenger seat all the way forward then back and then reclined it back and back straight and it went off....

This looks like a simple fix. However, everyone wants more than a $100 to scan my vehicle and hundreds of dollars to fix it, something you were able to do in less than 6 minutes. How does one find a reasonable mechanic to do this? I've made numerous phone calls.

    • @ThePracticalMechanic

Most places that will scan a vehicle for free are hurting for work and they may not be the most reputable shop to go to. The parts stores that scan a car for free typically don’t have the software for to perform the reset. If your looking for a cheaper solution you might want to search the Toyota and Lexus forums to see if there is a local member with a compatible scantool to do the reset for cheap or a case of beer.
Also if you stop by the local parts store and ask one of the staff if they know an mechanics that do good side work. You may be able to find a mechanic that own his own scantool that he can take home and perform the reset.
Other option would be buy a capable scantool and do it yourself and then you have the tool for future use or sell it afterwords. There are cheap factory knockoffs on eBay but they can be very troublesome to use or get working.

I did get a free scan from one mechanic. The result was the same as yours. Front passenger seat. He went on to say that sensors in the seat melt and have to be replaced and that I would likely have to get a "new" refurbished computer as well. What computer he means, I don't know. Total estimate $900 - $1000. The problem is exactly as seen in your video. I believe the repair could be as simple too. I am happy to pay someone for the time and labor. I'm just concerned about paying $900 for a 6 minute simple reset. It's a confusing problem. Thanks for your quick reply

pigeonracer10 The occupant classification module is also built into the seat I believe. I’ve never had a sensor failure in the past on one of these, I’ve always been able to perform the relearn and get the code to clear. It might be worth a call to the dealership and just ask them how much it would cost to perform a occupant classification system relearn.
