If you know anything about Marina Del Rey that's a very long kayak ride to the break water. This guy is in really good condition. And then he goes diving AT NIGHT. This dude has no fear... Great episode!
Night diving it's like a whole different world cuz most of the animals wake up you'll see so many different colors that's because you're bringing artificial light normally you won't see that color during the day cuz she lose your Reds first as you go deeper but at night it's lit up like you wouldn't believe and there's so much more going on
It's fun, you can do it safely if you can be cool and aware of your location and surroundings. Practice with a compass in very poor visibility water, if you can locate yourself there then you can handle anything night diving will throw at you. Also you probably won't often night dive below 40ft. Luke was in 15ft of water which you don't even need to hold or anything coming up.
@@kohenemoore the lobster laws in California are insanely strict. I've had California department of game and fisheries tap me on the should while freediving at 30 feet... they dont play and they dont mind getting in the water to catch someone. I heard about some guys that were poaching lobsters in the Laguna beach marine protected area get 6 months in prison and 2,000 dollar fine per lobster taken illegally. So much of the California coast has been exploited so they take their jobs very seriously and it's a good thing they do.
Run a google search for "Ca Lobster Poacher" and you'll see articles from every year about people getting jail time for breaking lobster fishing regulation. the DFW agents here don't mess around because Ca has so much wildlife that's threatened and so much population that might try to exploit it, they make an example of the people they catch poaching.
Rawabi Aljabbary exactly. as long as the way you choose to live your life suits you, and you're bothering no one, then so be it. May not be for everyone but let him do him. awesome
Did a lot of lobster diving around the Channel Islands in the 80-90 during week long sailing trips out of Santa Barbara. Great fun. Night dives were the best. Know the feeling when going for that last one and running out of air more than a few times. Having to make your way across 100 + yards of kelp on the surface kicking and crawling back to the boat still didn't ruin the adventure.
YES! So many people say that maine langosta is best but I'm a big fan of the spiny variety. The chewiness lets you enjoy all of the flavor before swallowing and it absorbs so much flavor when put into a soup. So good grilled and the fact that you can snorkel dive for them makes the whole hunt so much better than just buying one from a tank.
God I know what you mean. In high school the swimming coach made us do morning laps at 5am. Cold water is one thing, swimming in the dark is just terrifying.
Dude has to do it to survive haha can’t live anywhere for 300 a month and especially not at the beach while waiting tables lol good for him though bad ass meal every day at least
I do this same hobby except I free dive for the lobsters. Night diving is truly a beautiful escape from everything. When you're in that water at night nothing else matters in that moment. You enter another world🤙
I had a life much like this one for my early 20's, now I'm mid 30's with a wife, my own business, and lovely children. I have a great life but look back really fondly to those days, I've never been so free! 😊
Thank you. An excellent and informative video. You have it all, the sun, the sea and the sky and with some creative effort, some wonderful lobster catching and eating. Now I'm a subscriber.
+Diego Medellin There's an edit cut at 7:05 right after he moves his hand in front of the lens. Don't really know why it's included or what it has to do with the go-pro falling, but still, cool little jump scare.
When I was a young surfhog in San Diego we spent many an evening pushing bubbles and bagging spiny lobsters two hundred yards offshore. Tecates, Lobster, and Humboldt's dankest. I miss the '70s.
Not kidding, two lobster that size, couple drinks, couple starter, easily a thousand dollar dinner in upscale LA restaurant. And this guy just dive and snatch it, what a life.
+THE FINAL BOSS That was his own face... you know... cause his gopro was filming... and he dropped it... and it filmed his face on the way down... his own face...
+datDANK It's like a fishermen's joke... like when someone catches a big fish and they tell the story the fish gets bigger/ heavier every time they tell it

+morrison martin ^^^
no
I'd be more concerned about eels
fishing at night is way easier its almost cheating. Scuba diving at night and fishing is bullshit. Weak af.
night diving seems like something I will never do.
Then you're a pussy.
San Francisco no shame in being a pussy if thats the case
ITS REAL FUN THO!

Love that he actually cares about the sizing and regulations.
Good on him. Living the dream.
Do you have any idea what they will do to you if you get caught? And trust in that spot where he is they were aware he was there.

Waller Whittemore do they actually dive behind you to check on regulations? That's wild, basically underwater cops
He has to since he’s on video lol doubt he really does
What a chill dude. Enjoying life to the best of his abillities. :3
This is by far one of my favorite Munchies episodes. I'd love to go lobster hunting with this guy.
This guy must be living life how its meant to be.
Wish everyone had the courage to follow your passion and do what you want.
Man I need to go that place. The nostalgia from GTA V will be too much to handle
+Sir Alfred XI Ha!
Eh 🤷♂it's ok.
I’ve been there and it actually feels pretty cool
John Smith don’t even get me started
Nothing like punching whores on Venice beach...

Rawabi Aljabbary exactly. as long as the way you choose to live your life suits you, and you're bothering no one, then so be it. May not be for everyone but let him do him. awesome
$325 a month to live in Venice is dirt cheap. I rented an apartment about a 15 minute bike ride away from the water and it cost me $1300.
RiotHouse that’s an apartment and this is a rent to staying a boat! Huge difference
RiotHouse It could also be that you’re a fucking pussy LOL
Yeah but you had a toilet
Next time tell your friends to bring some sides with them, instead of just showing up to eat free.
+KobeBryant Hey man, they brought beers...for themselves. Haha I'm sure it's all good though.
+KobeBryant how about some women..
+KobeBryant His friends brought weed....
+Keety Mang its venice beach

+Khang On farmers only
+Khang On lotta ways, reddit, craigslist etc.
Whoever you are, you just made a new friend! Lobsters, sunsets and cityscapes to live for! 😳👀👍🏾
The hell! Your boys brought beer for themselves? Dude needs new boys
5:10 that view is incredible
Agreed
I have respect for people like this. Just their own person doing the thing they enjoy.

I love night diving! It’s a completely different experience from day.
Although any time of the day is fun diving.

Living is harsh but, I like this man
Couldn’t be happier for this guy for living life the way he wants, but I couldn’t stop hearing the theme song to Jaws.
That may be the first time I've heard a lobster make a noise when being killed
there's a creepy ass face at 7:07 that might have been him when the gopro fell down
What was that??!!
Dat sunset tho.

The hairy musty manpussy!
Haha, Luke looked stoned to the bone at the end talking about the lobster being above average
"This Lobster is Way Above Average." This episode is just a bit above average. Cool lobster though.
why? this episode seemed pretty lacking.
+d vc What's wrong with the episode? Did you want him to juggle the lobsters? Some people are so demanding.
+d vc it was awesome. The guy dove at night to find his food for dinner. Kinda adventurous. It's not a normal thing for most of us.
I like this dude. He makes me miss OC where I grew up.
Anyone else see the face at 7:08? It's super creepy
yep
Yeah holy shit

"its gotta be a 5 or 7 lbs lobster.. a 10 or 15.. A 20 lbs lobster right here. its about a 50 lb lobster right here" WTF IS THIS GUY TALKING ABOUT?
+datDANK wasnt being serious
+Trey Collinge oh... white jokes
+datDANK It looked like he was leaving it up to the editor to use him saying the right weight after they got back and actually weighed it.
+datDANK It's like a fishermen's joke... like when someone catches a big fish and they tell the story the fish gets bigger/ heavier every time they tell it
