    Nicely done. Thank you. I'm online! Tip for everyone. Every so often take a small soft brush and be sure all of the air vents are clean. Pressurized air is great. This will keep the router as cool as possible and can add years to the life of the router.

Factory default was set to static address.)

    How did you get the antennas on ? Just push them on? Or do I need to take off the rubber in the back?

    Could you explain what the purpose of MAC spoofing is in this setup? It seems like you're using it to bridge to a Wireless Gateway provided by your ISP. I'm considering picking one of these routers up, but I'm having issues with configuring routers to work with AT&T U-Verse Internet & TV

    I've had this router for 3 years and it works great with my 500/500 Mbps connection. Rockstar launcher downloaded RDR2 with 63 Mb/s. Also has great wifi signal for my shield despite it being in the opposite end of the house and the signal has to pass 3 walls.

    Here in UK we pay monthly for broadband and things if you get this do you just pay the price of the net gear router and you do not need to pay the monthly cost or do you have to still pay the monthly cost ?

    • @punknhead23
      @punknhead23 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you still pay monthly for internet service. A router is just a tool to allow devices to gain access to your paid for service wireless instead of having to hook them with a cable.

    I have a modem but it’s all the way downstairs but I have a router upstairs?

  • @garycontreras5288

    Eric, great tutorial and I followed it to a T...but it didn't work. I used the MAC address from my new modem, was that correct? Anyway I'm still w/o Internet using the new router. Fortunately I can plug directly into modem and get access. I switched providers so I still have my old WiFi router to fall back on for my phone, laptop and TV's. Any other advice? Thanks, Gary

    Is the yellow cable universal or it has to be a special one for each netgear device. Which one would be for the nighthawk?

    • @spooky3669

      A simple CAT6a universal UTP cable, a beter one is CAT7.

    This may be a dumb question but do you keep the modem connected to the netgear router? I was intending to use this strictly for gaming but if I have to keep it connected to the modem what about the original router for the rest of the house? Also will this only work with a laptop?

    Hey some of you may need to call your service provider and give them the MAC address on your modem if you are switching to a new modem as well as a new router at the same time.

    Question: I got a router but never had a old router for this IP, so should I use the Mac address that I have on my new router? Or use the one that is on the laptop?

    • @HomeNetworkCentral
      @HomeNetworkCentral  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If your laptop was directly plugged into your modem before then use your laptop's MAC address. But only do this if you can't get online. The MAC address spoof is only necessary if you're having problems getting online. It's not a required step.

    Does it make your wired WiFi faster

    • @JJFlores197
      @JJFlores197 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      LOL. Wired wifi??? Wi-Fi, by its very definition, is wireless.
      Regardless, your speeds are mainly determined by your plan with your provider. So if you are getting the speeds you're paying for, a new router will not really improve anything in terms of wired speeds.
