Mame Khan is a living legend and comes from a long line of singers. He belongs to the Manganiar community that traditionally lived along the desert tracts of Barmer, Jodhpur and Jaisalmer and are musicians by tradition. Their music, which has a wide range from folk to high classical has been handed down from generation to generation. They found patronage in the courts of the Rajput kings. Although the Manganiars are Muslim by faith, a large portion of their repertoire revolves around Hindu devotional music. Another example of the religious syncretism of our motherland.
I loved how you reacted to the line " i will put lots of ghee for you" ... because only people who know the heart of india will understand that the amount of ghee is directly proportional to the amount of love...
i am so proud to be a rajasthani. the clippers are called kartaal , every other kid knows how to play it its awesome if you wanna listen to this more listen dama dam mast kalandar...and now i am asking mom to make dal bati...bye
This song is sung from the pov of a woman. She feels all this for her lover. You'll find a lot of Rajasthani songs where the men capture the feelings of the woman and that adds value to it because they understand what she'd be feeling in that moment.
At 3:37 when Rick realised that he might have actually heard this one somewhere. BTW it was Sounds of nation performance where you heard it. Love that reaction ❤️
Just wanted to let you know that the “clickers” are actually like 4 ski shaped plates. Two in each hand that are clapped together to make the click sound. It’s known as a khartaal, very popular in Rajasthani music

This songs gives me glimpses of my beautiful state. This is such a vibe!! I live in the imaginary world whenever i listen to this song! Kudos to the singer, composer and all the musicians!! ❤️😭
I absolutely adore this song! 💗💗 And yeh you guys heard a snippet of it in Amit Trivedi's 'Sounds of a Nation' (i think that was the title), sound of Rajasthan
This singer (mame khan) comes from an ancient rajasthani muslim community of india and the children who born there learn learns to sing with sur (tone) by birth they are really very talented people😊
Aww I'm so glad you're appreciating the musical genius that Amit Trivedi is. He is talented, and abundantly creative as well. I feel when I listen to his music he has a depth of understanding of each instrument and he not only knows how to use that instrument, but he also knows when to let it shine as he did in this song. Amit is also one of the few music composers who blends Eastern and Western instruments seamlessly, and the sounds he creates through that blend take you on an imaginative journey. Much like A R Rahman, Amit is truly gifted in music. He was born to be a music composer. Some of his albums I highly recommend; Dev D, Queen, Kai Po Che, Bombay Velvet, Manmarziyaan, Aaiya and English Vinglish. *Just a note on Bombay Velvet - this album took 5 years to complete, and in my view, it's one of Amit's finest works. Because the film (BV) didn't do very well, the music album drowned in that noise, which was heartbreaking. Through the music, Amit re-creates that nostalgic 1960s Jazz era, and transports you into that time period, it's stunning. If you get a chance, do listen to Bombay Velvet. Amit also collaborated with the Philharmonic Orchestra since Jazz was an entirely new genre for him, but I think that's a testament to his own talent. He pushed himself out of his comfort zone to create this album, and in my view, it's one of the best music albums to have come out of Indian cinema! (And I really don't care what the 'so-called' critics think - most of them get paid to write rubbish and ruin careers).
