- In this free Amazing Grace Harmonica Lesson, I demonstrate how to play a harmonica version of Amazing Grace, in 2nd position (cross harp.) I'm using a C harmonica, so the key of this Amazing Grace harmonica song would be G.
In a previous video, I showed how to play the easy harmonica songs Amazing Grace in it's easiest form on the harmonica, which would be first position in the top octave (Key of C.) In this video we can play more blues harmonica riffs with the song, because we are in 2nd position.

I vowed last night to pickup the harmonica every day for a month for practice and performance when the opportunity presents itself. Just had knee surgery 3 wks ago and I've been watching too much television and its taking away the most important thing we take for granted. TIME! (Water is up there, too. But let's focus on time) I have to relearn alot of songs and riffs because of my laziness! Help me help myself! I'm glad I found your channel!

I'm almost 50 and just started to play about a month ago and I'm loving it. You have been very helpful. Your lesson on bending help me finally get the 3 draw. I've been working on that since day 1.
I started with a cheap Hohner Bluesband ($5 from a toy store) but just got a Hohner Special 20 Marine Band. WOW! What a difference.

Thank you for putting this up on youtube. I stubbled across this tune practicing bending notes. Especially draw 3 over to draw 2 :). I have just brought a android app called bendometer, which I'm finding great to visually show what note you are hitting with the bend. It cost me around $16 NZD and has been worth all it's money. firstly, LET ME AGREE WITH JOSH P IN SAYING I TOO THINK THIS IS THE BEST VERSION OF THIS WIDELY ALTERED TUNE I HAVE HEARD. SECONDLY, i NOW (THANKS TO YOU )LEARNT TO BEND MY 3 DRAW.....i KEPT 'LISTENING TO THE FIRST LINE OVER AND OVER AGAIN. UNTIL THE SOUND OF THAT NOTE 'A' STUCK IN MY MEMORY. SO NOW AS I BEND , I CAN 'FEEL' MY WAY TO THE PERFECT NOTE. AND AS THIS IS MAYBE THE HARDEST DRAW BEND, THE OTHERS FEEL EASY TO GET AND I JUST NEED TO PERFECT THEM........ALL DOWN TO YOU ! tHANKS LOLWIT

this is a really great video; it shows how critical proper bends are...do a couple of videos showing just basic scales and intervals for daily practice to get the proper tone. Or, if not, just doing this tune every day for a year to get it perfect will make a huge difference. it will also train our ear to hear when you are out of tune...Great work!

Thank you for this wonderful tutorial! I accidentally figured out how to play Amazing Grace about a year back while trying to learn "What a Wonderful World." go figure.. :) However; you just showed me some really nice touches (and a few notes that are now obvious I was missing) that I'll be adding to my own version immediately.
One really nice technique that grabbed my attention was the percussive attack you gave to the (34)(23)(-1-2) sequence. I can't listen to that without seeing a big pipe organ in the background (sweet).. Your use of flutters and unbelievable vibrato add so much to this. Another nice touch is that you at least went into a brief explanation of the alternate blues runs you were adding. So many other artists throw things like that in their instructional video's but leave us 'students' at a total loss for what just happened. At least I know you're using 3rd position riffs and you have another tutorial on those.. and yes I've been digging already. I do have to admit I'd love to see the tabs for those runs written out, but I'm already so grateful for what you've given us.

Hey Luke !....You just put me off playing my harmonica....Been trying to play cross harp for .a few months now (instead of just melodies ,in first ) This is the tune I'm Using. and you know what ,? mine doesn't quite sound like yours, ha ha . Luke that sounds awesome mate .

Lucas, I think that in the beginning of the video and at 6-30 you play differently last part. At the end of the video as it is written in the tabs, but in the beginning of the video is something like
1- 2- 2-
quickly (3-4-3-) 3-(w) 3+ 3- 3-(w)

2+ 2-
And it sounds more interesting

Hi Luke, I think you've done an amazing job with the channel. You've inspired me to play and go from not knowing a single note to being able to play Amazing Grace (plus a whole load of other stuff from other videos!). This means a lot to me - my grandfather played harmonica back in the day and I think of him when I play it now. Keep it going!
I have a special request - I would love a tutorial on how to play 'Trouble So Hard' by Vera Hall - it's a really atmospheric song and I heard it the other day for the first time in years while watching a documentary on BB King. If you could do a brief video on that, please, it would be amazing.

can this be played on the marine band classic and could you please tell me some songs that can be played on the marine band harmonica key of c
HI Trevor... You can play this version (or any other song) on any diatonic (10 hole) harmonica in any key. All that happens is that you'll be playing in a different key. Sometimes a song sounds better or more familiar in specific keys, but that shouldn't stop you from playing them. Playing this (in 2nd position as is done here) on your C harmonica means you'll actually be playing it in the key of G.. handy to know if you've got a guitar or keyboard accompanying you. My harp of choice is in the key of G so I play this song in the key of D. Do a search on Cross Harp or 2nd position for better explanations. If you're really starting out you may find the 2 draw and all of the bends difficult. The 2 draw comes from experience (I have to really think back hard to remember having problems with it).. the same pretty much is true for the bends, although I have one brand of harmonica that squeals no matter what I try.. the important thing is.. don't give up and have a blast.

Just okay. I would go more for the organ sound. But good enough for beginners. Not a song one should go "bluesy" with.
Why not jut place the Tabs on the screen...it's easier to follow.
