    Hi Paul
I'm having a part made butterfly cleft made up for me to make my first steps into bat making. I've enjoyed refurbing old bats but this is a different challenge.
Any tips for me as I give it a go for the first time?
The bat will be handled, pressed and the toe will be finished, but the rest is in touched. I play mainly off the front foot so I expect I'll need the middle to be middle to low.
Any help or advice would be much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Alun

Alun Edwards just give it a go, you have to find your own way of working

Aldred Cricket Bats thanks Paul, were there any mistakes you made when you started off? Gonna be an expensive experiment if I keep messing up haha.

Alun Edwards every mistake under the sun but that’s how you learn and yes they are expensive mistakes but wait until you start splicing and handling then the real trauma starts

Are butterfly clefts heavier than non butterfly ones? All the ones I have came across just felt heavier and could only be made into a smallish bat without exceeding 2 pound 9 as it is the bat weight I usually play with.

Kevin Yeh they are generally heavier as an average but you do get some beautifully light clefts just not so many to select from. People don't understand this and think you will have as much selection as you do with top end willow.
