Every piece of willow has its own characteristics. So some will totally naturally feel as though they ping more straight away and others will feel a little firmer and take a touch longer to open up. But this is the key for me that if every cleft is pressed individually regardless of it being grade 1 or 2 then the best performance possible can be created from that cleft. Just because a cleft looks nice doesn't mean it will have the greatest of natural properties so that is down to the skill of the bat maker to bring that out. This is why it's nice to see the quality companies using minimal stickers on bats rather than big block stickers as it shows that they are not trying to hide faults behind them which means they are using inferior quality grades of willow and charging top dollar for them to the public who to be quite frank many don't know better. It's a scam that needs stopping and it's only greed that's creating it.
G'day Paul, great channel you have here. I have one query though, let's say you had a grade 2 bat (No butterfly stain) and a Player's grade willow and they were both pressed equally well. Would there still be a difference in performance? Regards from New Zealand.
