Any person can have sensitivity with a teeth whitening procedure, however, some people are more likely to experience sensitivity such as having thin enamel, damaged or weakened enamel, previous experiences with sensitivity, etc. Your dentist should perform an exam prior to performing the Zoom! procedure and inform you of any conditions that would make you a less ideal candidate for Zoom! If you are a good candidate, there are some things you can do at home to prepare for your appointment. 1. Start brushing with a potassium nitrate toothpaste like Sensodyne up to two weeks before the treatment. 2. Take an over-the-counter pain reliever like ibuprofen approximately 1 hour before your appointment. During your appointment, make sure the procedure is performed by a trained professional and that you express any concerns you have prior to beginning the procedure. In addition, we require all patients to have an exam by the doctor to determine if the patient is a good candidate. As a matter of ethics, we feel that it’s important to inform patients of any dental conditions and recommend they be treated before proceeding with a voluntary cosmetic procedure. It’s safe, effective, and can produce excellent results!
