One has to be slow to demonstrate. Also, doing any technique fast and wrong is easy. Learn to do it the correct way first, then speed it up. Anyone can make fast moves that are ineffective.
When you are still practicing you have to do it slow so you get the exact movements. That is why it is called practice. Over time it becomes natural and smooth for you because of muscle memory and when the time comes that you will have to use it it becomes almost reflexive and effortless.
David Quinn Ingan i agree with what u said as it applies to learning and mastering a particular technique at its most competent. However, i don’t know if u realize that the reason why Systema doesn’t have any particular move or stance is coz any kind of muscle memory no matter how competent, locks you into a learnt habit. Drills help perfect the process towards mastering A particular technique but can also hinder one from leading another.

@@scarred10 not sure I agree as an across the board statement. I'm a multi instrumental musician and each instrument be it drums, keys, strings, or even wind instruments require slow training. The reason is to get the "muscle memory" /neuro pathways established and after that has been accomplished, speed is increased for stamina and muscle growth. And don't confuse slow with soft or fast with hard! Much like people confuse kindness with weakness. BIG MISTAKE! 😉 Practicing both slowly and softly are very bit as important as going full out and full force. In my own practice sessions I start slow, alternate between soft and forcefully, build up to full speed again soft and full power and reduce to slow and soft to finish. I think everything can be trained in this manner. Except maybe fishing?😂 ✌️
This is the first video on Systema that I've seen that seemed effective and it made sense. I've seen so many others that looked like a joke. This was a great video explanation.

If you wanted to do these, you would have to move closer to him after the punch is out the way. I recommend training with a helmet and gloves because if you try to pull this off, you're gonna have to move fast.

Goju karate guy here. Most systema videos I have watched seem fake and unrealistic, however this one makes a lot of sense to me. We practice similar redirecting-type blocks from punches. Nicely done.

First time I have seen Systema work executed with a detailed breakdown of how and why with a clear English translation. Thank you for that. If you have never experienced Systema for yourself, I recommended actually giving it a try before discounting it. What you may be calling BS now may actually help you in a real life situation at some point (like one of the disarming techniques thought that you may not have learned in another art). If you are in the Southeast Michigan area, track down Systema George and give it a try. You don’t know, what you don’t know.
Dirkjan, true in many cases. Just don’t overlook the possibilities of what can be learned from new movements and creating angles of attack and defense. I believe the core arts that have proven to be very effective are a combination of Muay Thai, BJJ, and Wrestling. After you have a solid foundation in those, explore the other arts/systems for things to incorporate. By adding more variables you create a higher level of encryption for your opponent to solve when engaging in offense and defense. It is also useful to study the weapon disarming techniques that these “other” arts/systems practice as such techniques are usually lacking in most Muay Thai, BJJ, and Wrestling classes. All arts/systems should be approached with 100% skepticism until you have personally experienced them and tested them for effectiveness. Never buy into any one art/system claiming to be a one stop answer for all as they all contain a certain level of BS. Do your best to find what is useful and discard the rest. Whether you are learning in slow motion or high speed, just keep learning and evolving. I have learned several things and slow motion over the years that helped to develop response pathways that have proven to be effective in live situations. Personal examples include using and aikido taught wrist lock to end and attack from a gentleman at a bar. I have also used a groin strike to end a situation from an attacker. Prior to that, all the groin strikes were in slow motion in a practice setting. When the real situation arose, the response was already ingrained.
Having had experience in the proven arts and using my skills from those arts against a seasoned Systema practitioner, so would say without a doubt that there is validity to many of the techniques. If you ever have the chance to try your skills against a seasoned Systema practitioner as your own scientific test, I would encourage you do. Once you have tried it for your self, please let me know what you think. If you experience was anything like mine, you may have a new frame of reference.

I would like to also see the defence against an initial jab, rather than a leading straight or cross. I have found the jab to usually be a setup for a cross/straight. Jabs are also usually faster and don't tend to be over-extended. Nice video, very nicely narrated despite obviously not being the instructors first language. Well done.
There is no active defence against a jab. You block or stay out of reach. But I really wonder whether you'll run into a jab in a defence situation. In a ring, jabs are cheap as you won't break you fingers on someones forehead. Without the glove, a jab also becomes expensive, so a skilled opponents won't use them as readily. Also, a classic jab (with the head tucked behind the leading shoulder) puts the attacker in a bad posture to respond to take downs, low kicks, etc. Another reason you won't see as many jabs outside a boxing ring. You already see this in the difference between boxing and mma. Much less focus on jabs in mma.
To everyone who thinks this is fake: Systema always starts with slow practice so you understand principles of motion. Learning a ton of fast fancy techniques from the start is what gets you killed or injured. You can easily speed up the movements to full speeds and because you didn't waste time learning to do just 1 technique, you can improvise easily when slight variations of the attack are encountered.

Just expecting your opponents arm to go back to his face would also be wrong, because that wouldn't take into account that you can expect a punch afterwards (even expecting that would be wrong, because you might get kicked instead), but that would just be step 3 and so on. For a simple demonstration it's not always necessary to take all possible factors into account, you can add them later during actual practice. Introducing all possible outcomes in a small demo, will make the demo too long and too confusing for it to be helpful.

I think systema is a practical style simply because it has a long history being practiced in Russia military, so this is already a good evidence that it works in real violence situation. Someone say because it is slow, so it is fake and never works in full speed. This is quite incorrect. Think like that: if i do boxing drills with my partner in slow motion so to look clear, detail motion of the art, it doesn't mean that because we do it slow it is "fake". No one say that because the technique itself is proven valid and effective in ring fights. But ring is ring, it is still a sport so it still has some differences to reality. No need to doubt an art that being used widely in military. Every art works as long as you practice under a correct manner and under pressure.
Very accurate point that you mention about the difference between combat sport and combat systems. We believe every form of martial art has its own effectiveness in certain areas and situations.

The people making fun of these demonstrations and techniques really don’t know anything about fighting. Ofc the techniques won’t look this pretty in real life, but it’s the main points and principles you need to apply, and also one must realize that these sorts as soldiers or really anyone that trains martial arts, practices these movements thousands of times to make them effective, just like you can watch the best basketball shot tutorial, won’t make you shoot like steph curry, it takes hundreds and thousands of repeatedly drilling these moves to the point where it becomes almost like a reflex, it becomes as easy as breathing to move like this because of the stored muscle memory.
It’s fake, try mma, muay thai or boxing for real fighting unlike this type of martial art mainly cos your opponent won’t keep his hand there for you to block or catch it. He will hit you with a 1-2 combination and the next thing you know boom knockout
If i'm not mistaken, these videos are made in order to help someone to learn basics of defence. You won't be able to fight expirienced fighter, but you'll get knowledge that would help you to defence yourself from a robber for example or win some time for running away or call for help.

Bad stance first punch if he lucky maybe he is his gonna block but then other left hook on chin and is over he dont even cover his chin waht a bullshit...
Practice with your arms at full speed but with your hands opened up like you're playing patty cake and have him actually try to tag your forehead it doesn't hurt. Make sure if you don't block he actually contacts your forehead with his palm and isn't pulling his punches. And don't throw just one punch, have the attacker mix up combos and make it more unpredictable. That's an easy fix for more realistic training.
After a while some of these comments become ridiculous. “What if he’s a boxer?” “What if he’s a champion Muay Thai fighter”.. what if he has a machine gun? The fact is you hare most likely not going to be attacked by a highly skilled boxer and even if you are it is very unlikely that he will feint circle or jab. If you are In anon sporting confrontation with anyone they most likely will be trying to knock you out with one punch OR grab with in hand and hit you with the other.. google or TH-cam 100 streetlights and you may only see three or four that shows skilled boxers or people with any training at all unless you search for that specifically. They are training to deal with self defence situations not sport so these criticisms are as daft as me commenting on a bjj or boxing video about how the shoulder roll or rubber guard wouldn’t work against a knife.
Those highly skilled boxers with machine guns are VERY dangerous! The AMAZING thing is how they REACH the TRIGGER with those boxing gloves on! Really scary is how arrogant & ignorant the "critics" are.
+Daron M The principle of changing the trajectory of his punch doesn't change and also the fact that you have to meet his punch in the right angle to do this. The only thing changing is the trajectory of his punch and you have to adjust to that. In season two there will be a video about this type of punch.
Just lift your hand and put it against your head in a v shape and bend your body a lil and if he gets tired of throwing those swings step in and jab him, u may think jabs feel weak but they do do damage but if you wanna swing your arm atleast try to punch 1,2,2,1 then 1.2.2 swing that way your opponent would think u will still follow with the jabs and you just get him with a swing. If your looking into power just do the superman punch as that will give him a knockout if you aim properly, swinging wont get you anywhere more of wear your stamina then doing any damage as you will mostly be hitting your forearm of their shoulder or head.
I think if your looking for street fight that happens to be against an inexperienced fighter then you would be more better of learning more then just this as there would be swingers, kickers, pullers, pushers, etc.
I am working on my third black belt and have trained with Israeli counter terrorism and the Seals at week long camps. The comments about this being an inaccurate simulation of live combat are valid. However - the point of decisive aggression, precise strikes and preemptive movement are true. Of course fights don't go down this way and you will always encounter variables. But to anyone who is untrained in combat disciplines and is looking for tips - the point of this video is crucial. Minimize distance. Immobilize. Strike explosively.
+drh kleinert Systema finds it's origin within the army. So we think most people wear military clothes as some kind of "tradition" like many budo sports wear a Gi. We wear it because it is resistant to groundwork and grabs and it is comfortable. Definitely not to look tough or deadly.
this is probably an effective technique but get your facts right.. " you get the same impact in slow motion?! (did you study physics in high school?) train as realistic as you can? - but avoid getting injured? -- use gloves!
I rarely "hate" on these kinds of videos but this one deserves it. If you can do all of those things in slo mo and act like you are that good, you should be able to back it up and do it at full speed. I'm not a systema expert or anything but I do have a good background in martial arts and can demonstrate techniques at full speed. If you know your distance, control your speed and your timing properly it can be done. If you are worried about getting injured and are not willing to perform at full speed, you are just not competent enough. You should be able to perform at any time at any given moment, since these are supposed to be self defense techniques.
If you have the time to analyse before a fight starts you can make it a tactical decision. But in reality most of the time it would be instinctive, and you have to anticipate on what the situation is.
So make it as realistic as possible, but do it in slow motion with no power at all, all while knowing exactly what punch he will throw. Another martial art that will get you killed. Just learn boxing or Muay Thai / MMA.
this thing is doable ..but you need a hell of a perfect timing box/muay/mma seem to be the best but i think the hand to hand combat part of systema seems to have some potential...it needs some heavy development
He is just showing the application and principle, not the way it should be trained. Actually training this is another thing altogether. He's also not going into great detail about positioning and range, but I'm sure he could make another video about that.
Krav ma ga, Salat ( French Marshall art ) , Kung Fu, Sombo, Kick boxing, Karate, Ninjitsu, USMC has a fighting style I forgot the name of, basically anything taught to a soldier or anything taught by a Black belt or equivalent of works. Not sure about slow motion training just seems useless. I mean how are you going to be ready for a real fight if you don't train at normal speed?

The deflecting stays the same only shorter and faster. Extending the punch will become more difficult and positioning and quick counter striking starts playing a bigger role then. Check out our video how to defend against multiple attacks it gives also an example of jabs
When there's a video of a systema practitioner in a live sparring environment with a resisting and trained opponent LET ME KNOW. All of the ones I've seen have submissive, slow-motion dudes with the same punch flailing around.
Having trained Kadochnikrov for some time. You need to explore the wording and demonstration of these techniques of our school . Indeed they don't train full-contact or full speed, I've never done this in the classes. But I do now, we have [simunition] REDMAN armours . It's nessary to train slowly for muscle memory and at full speed and intensity, otherwise the training is not realistic . Don't go own the road of Vasiliev or Ryabko , who learned from Kadochnikrov but mixed it with there karate school style , there style is great for getting money from your pocket [ beware ] .
I was a boxer when I was first introduced to Systema and it seemed kinda weak at first, but as the years have gone by I began to understand that real conflict doesn’t happen in an octagon or ring, and rarely against trained fighters. The unusual flow of Systema is surprising to most people in a real conflict and I think that’s part of its potential. However, this is a real fun martial art to teach to children, they pick it up quickly.

@@wach_4290 there are too many Ifs and buts. Systema isn't my style btw. As mine is Mauy Thai, Boxing and Krav Maga (not the watered down kind). However, some styles work better for some stuff and some opponents.
Ryan McCormack systema does have its time and place I guess, there are certain moves that are effective in this martial art, but as a whole I don’t think much of it is applicable to a resisting opponent. if you could link me a video of a fight being won by systema, then feel free to prove me wrong. I feel a combination of jiu jitsu and kickboxing is a better way to learn self defense, as you’re rolling/sparring and practicing your moves with people who will actually fight back.
I saw this video in recommended and subbed, I think you should upload more frequently because I see recent videos are 3 weeks or so apart.. I think this is a great channel and could grow if you made consistent and more frequent uploads. If it's a lot of work to do the editing then maybe cut back on editing for the more frequent uploads. Personal examples include using and aikido taught wrist lock to end and attack from a gentleman at a bar. I have also used a groin strike to end a situation from an attacker. Prior to that, all the groin strikes were in slow motion in a practice setting. When the real situation arose, the response was already ingrained.
Having had experience in the proven arts and using my skills from those arts against a seasoned Systema practitioner, so would say without a doubt that there is validity to many of the techniques. If you ever have the chance to try your skills against a seasoned Systema practitioner as your own scientific test, I would encourage you do. Once you have tried it for your self, please let me know what you think. If you experience was anything like mine, you may have a new frame of reference.

I would like to also see the defence against an initial jab, rather than a leading straight or cross. I have found the jab to usually be a setup for a cross/straight. Jabs are also usually faster and don't tend to be over-extended. Nice video, very nicely narrated despite obviously not being the instructors first language. Well done.
There is no active defence against a jab. You block or stay out of reach. But I really wonder whether you'll run into a jab in a defence situation. In a ring, jabs are cheap as you won't break you fingers on someones forehead. Without the glove, a jab also becomes expensive, so a skilled opponents won't use them as readily.
Also, a classic jab (with the head tucked behind the leading shoulder) puts the attacker in a bad posture to respond to take downs, low kicks, etc. Another reason you won't see as many jabs outside a boxing ring.
You already see this in the difference between boxing and mma. Much less focus on jabs in mma.
To everyone who thinks this is fake: Systema always starts with slow practice so you understand principles of motion. Learning a ton of fast fancy techniques from the start is what gets you killed or injured. You can easily speed up the movements to full speeds and because you didn't waste time learning to do just 1 technique, you can improvise easily when slight variations of the attack are encountered.

The problem isn’t necessarily the speed of the technique. It’s the lack of resistance being used. Even people who have never trained a day in their life don’t just leave their punches out in the air after they miss. They quickly return the hand to their face.
Aaron Tyeryar You're right, but that's just step 2 in training. Just expecting your opponents arm to go back to his face would also be wrong, because that wouldn't take into account that you can expect a punch afterwards (even expecting that would be wrong, because you might get kicked instead), but that would just be step 3 and so on.
For a simple demonstration it's not always necessary to take all possible factors into account, you can add them later during actual practice. Introducing all possible outcomes in a small demo, will make the demo too long and too confusing for it to be helpful.

I think systema is a practical style simply because it has a long history being practiced in
Russia military, so this is already a good evidence that it works in real violence situation.
Someone say because it is slow, so it is fake and never works in full speed. This is quite incorrect. Think like that: if i do boxing drills with my partner in slow motion so to look clear, detail motion of the art, it doesn't mean that because we do it slow it is "fake". No one say that because the technique itself is proven valid and effective in ring fights. But ring is ring, it is still a sport so it still has some differences to reality. No need to doubt an art that being used widely in military. Every art works as long as you practice under a correct manner and under pressure.

The people making fun of these demonstrations and techniques really don’t know anything about fighting. Ofc the techniques won’t look this pretty in real life, but it’s the main points and principles you need to apply, and also one must realize that these sorts as soldiers or really anyone that trains martial arts, practices these movements thousands of times to make them effective, just like you can watch the best basketball shot tutorial, won’t make you shoot like steph curry, it takes hundreds and thousands of repeatedly drilling these moves to the point where it becomes almost like a reflex, it becomes as easy as breathing to move like this because of the stored muscle memory.
It’s fake, try mma, muay thai or boxing for real fighting unlike this type of martial art mainly cos your opponent won’t keep his hand there for you to block or catch it. He will hit you with a 1-2 combination and the next thing you know boom knockout

If i'm not mistaken, these videos are made in order to help someone to learn basics of defence. You won't be able to fight expirienced fighter, but you'll get knowledge that would help you to defence yourself from a robber for example or win some time for running away or call for help.

Practice with your arms at full speed but with your hands opened up like you're playing patty cake and have him actually try to tag your forehead it doesn't hurt. Make sure if you don't block he actually contacts your forehead with his palm and isn't pulling his punches. And don't throw just one punch, have the attacker mix up combos and make it more unpredictable. That's an easy fix for more realistic training.

After a while some of these comments become ridiculous. “What if he’s a boxer?” “What if he’s a champion Muay Thai fighter”.. what if he has a machine gun? The fact is you hare most likely not going to be attacked by a highly skilled boxer and even if you are it is very unlikely that he will feint circle or jab. If you are In anon sporting confrontation with anyone they most likely will be trying to knock you out with one punch OR grab with in hand and hit you with the other.. google or TH-cam 100 streetlights and you may only see three or four that shows skilled boxers or people with any training at all unless you search for that specifically. They are training to deal with self defence situations not sport so these criticisms are as daft as me commenting on a bjj or boxing video about how the shoulder roll or rubber guard wouldn’t work against a knife.

+Daron M The principle of changing the trajectory of his punch doesn't change and also the fact that you have to meet his punch in the right angle to do this. The only thing changing is the trajectory of his punch and you have to adjust to that. In season two there will be a video about this type of punch.

Just lift your hand and put it against your head in a v shape and bend your body a lil and if he gets tired of throwing those swings step in and jab him, u may think jabs feel weak but they do do damage but if you wanna swing your arm atleast try to punch 1,2,2,1 then 1.2.2 swing that way your opponent would think u will still follow with the jabs and you just get him with a swing. If your looking into power just do the superman punch as that will give him a knockout if you aim properly, swinging wont get you anywhere more of wear your stamina then doing any damage as you will mostly be hitting your forearm of their shoulder or head.
I think if your looking for street fight that happens to be against an inexperienced fighter then you would be more better of learning more then just this as there would be swingers, kickers, pullers, pushers, etc.
You can't use them techniques against a good puncher. They snape a punch out and back. They don't hold it out to be grabbed

I am working on my third black belt and have trained with Israeli counter terrorism and the Seals at week long camps. The comments about this being an inaccurate simulation of live combat are valid. However - the point of decisive aggression, precise strikes and preemptive movement are true. Of course fights don't go down this way and you will always encounter variables. But to anyone who is untrained in combat disciplines and is looking for tips - the point of this video is crucial. Minimize distance. Immobilize. Strike explosively.
Is there any reason why so many "Systema" sessions held with camouflage military clothes? Should it looks more martial and violent or what?
+drh kleinert Systema finds it's origin within the army. So we think most people wear military clothes as some kind of "tradition" like many budo sports wear a Gi. We wear it because it is resistant to groundwork and grabs and it is comfortable. Definitely not to look tough or deadly.

I rarely "hate" on these kinds of videos but this one deserves it. If you can do all of those things in slo mo and act like you are that good, you should be able to back it up and do it at full speed. I'm not a systema expert or anything but I do have a good background in martial arts and can demonstrate techniques at full speed. If you know your distance, control your speed and your timing properly it can be done. If you are worried about getting injured and are not willing to perform at full speed, you are just not competent enough. You should be able to perform at any time at any given moment, since these are supposed to be self defense techniques.

How do we decide whether to deflect the punch from the inside, or outside positioning?
If you have the time to analyse before a fight starts you can make it a tactical decision. But in reality most of the time it would be instinctive, and you have to anticipate on what the situation is.
So make it as realistic as possible, but do it in slow motion with no power at all, all while knowing exactly what punch he will throw. Another martial art that will get you killed. Just learn boxing or Muay Thai / MMA.

box/muay/mma seem to be the best but i think the hand to hand combat part of systema seems to have some potential...it needs some heavy development
He is just showing the application and principle, not the way it should be trained. Actually training this is another thing altogether.

Krav ma ga, Salat ( French Marshall art ) , Kung Fu, Sombo, Kick boxing, Karate, Ninjitsu, USMC has a fighting style I forgot the name of, basically anything taught to a soldier or anything taught by a Black belt or equivalent of works. Not sure about slow motion training just seems useless. I mean how are you going to be ready for a real fight if you don't train at normal speed?
All these defence videos on TH-cam are in slow motion with a submissive combatant who do not offer any resistance.
@@rogerpayne2714 these videos are meant as a demonstration, not instruction. You got to learn the concept before you put it into practice. Over time, you can train it at a more realistic pace.

The deflecting stays the same only shorter and faster. Extending the punch will become more difficult and positioning and quick counter striking starts playing a bigger role then. Check out our video how to defend against multiple attacks it gives also an example of jabs

When there's a video of a systema practitioner in a live sparring environment with a resisting and trained opponent LET ME KNOW. All of the ones I've seen have submissive, slow-motion dudes with the same punch flailing around.

Having trained Kadochnikrov for some time. You need to explore the wording and demonstration of these techniques of our school . Indeed they don't train full-contact or full speed, I've never done this in the classes. But I do now, we have [simunition] REDMAN armours . It's nessary to train slowly for muscle memory and at full speed and intensity, otherwise the training is not realistic . Don't go own the road of Vasiliev or Ryabko , who learned from Kadochnikrov but mixed it with there karate school style , there style is great for getting money from your pocket [ beware ] .

I was a boxer when I was first introduced to Systema and it seemed kinda weak at first, but as the years have gone by I began to understand that real conflict doesn’t happen in an octagon or ring, and rarely against trained fighters. The unusual flow of Systema is surprising to most people in a real conflict and I think that’s part of its potential. However, this is a real fun martial art to teach to children, they pick it up quickly.

@@wach_4290 there are too many Ifs and buts. Systema isn't my style btw. As mine is Mauy Thai, Boxing and Krav Maga (not the watered down kind). However, some styles work better for some stuff and some opponents.
Ryan McCormack systema does have its time and place I guess, there are certain moves that are effective in this martial art, but as a whole I don’t think much of it is applicable to a resisting opponent. if you could link me a video of a fight being won by systema, then feel free to prove me wrong.
I feel a combination of jiu jitsu and kickboxing is a better way to learn self defense, as you’re rolling/sparring and practicing your moves with people who will actually fight back.
I saw this video in recommended and subbed, I think you should upload more frequently because I see recent videos are 3 weeks or so apart.. I think this is a great channel and could grow if you made consistent and more frequent uploads. If it's a lot of work to do the editing then maybe cut back on editing for the more frequent uploads. I also think it's important to say that negative comments are just noise, please don't let this deter you from making content. Looking forward to future videos.
