hey buddy just commented on mikes vid I learned somethings! but some didn't seem to work? do you have any suggestions? maybe in the settings somewhere?
Awesome. I've been using Logic Pro professionally over 15 years now, and there are still some really fresh and handy shortcuts in this video I did not know of. Great work and thank you very much !
Kudos to you for sharing these, and kudos to the programmers for making so many thoughtful and musical shortcuts available. You only one of my new favorites--create brush pattern is the handiest thing ever.
I'm glad you like it, btw my complete Logic Pro Quick Tips series will be available on my instagram (100+ videos planned already). You can follow me there if you like: instagram.com/mikaelbaggstrom
Thank you Gregor. I would also like to invite you to join my community for composers: forum.professionalcomposers.com Sincerely Mikael "Mike" Baggström
Awesome video thanks ! My only issue with Logic Pro piano roll is the midi out "preview" of the note. When I'm writing down notes I can hear the preview and that's fine, but the annoying thing is that when I start playback the track while trying to move some notes around to "spare" some time during midi editing, the preview sound messes up everything. On the other hand, if I switch off midi out I can't hear anything at all so it's hard to have an idea of what I'm writing down. In FL Studio that won't happen since when you playback the track while moving notes around, you can't hear any preview and I was basically searching to replicate this feature in a comfortable way.
You're welcome, and btw I am releasing a complete Logic Pro Quick Tips series on my instagram (100+ videos planned already). So if you want to learn Logic Pro tips & trick you can follow me there if you like: instagram.com/mikaelbaggstrom
Tack so much for this. I've been using Cubase for the most part and only recently purchased Logic (more stable on a Mac, lots of acquaintances using it, etc), so your video comes in 'hyper-handy'. One question though: I see you moving the 'playhead' (only learned about this term through your video :-) around: from one bar to the next and back. I only know how to do this by assigning markers: Is there a quicker way to do this then? Tack i förskot
Many thanks. this is soooo useful even though I'm not a beginner. I use a lot the piano roll, it's so friendly and effective, and now after those couple of tips which I still didn't know, it'll be even more:) You're a precious teacher!

Mike, you absolutely need to write a book to pass on these lessons of yours. I'm currently reading a very comprehensive logic manual which was written recently and it doesn't come even slightly close to the depth of your teachings. You always go in deeper and reveal secrets that Logic Pro X professional publications don't do. I would buy your book in an instant and I'm sure allot of other musical artists would as well.
I've been using logic /GB for a few years now and suddenly needed to do something and felt a moment of despair that it wasn't possible. Typed a search into youtube hey presto this came up and tip #1 sorted me out! Cheers man, eternally grateful haha (I'll watch the rest later)
That's great to hear! =) Remember that I summed them all up as well, in this post on my website if you want to bookmark it as a reference: professionalcomposers.com/piano-roll-tips-in-logic-pro-x/
Tip 18 with the Scissors tool: I couldn't get that multi-note drag technique to work, it just ends up selecting the notes I dragged over, doesn't split them. Using LPX 10.5.1.
I'm glad you like it, btw my complete Logic Pro Quick Tips series will be available on my instagram (100+ videos planned already). You can follow me there if you like: instagram.com/mikaelbaggstrom
If you want to use the third tool but don't use a mouse, you can assign the right click function to a bottom corner of your trackpad. Under Trackpad preferences < Point & Click, check the "Secondary click" option and choose either bottom right or bottom left corner. My personal preference is to use the middle tool for velocity, as I find it easier to use with the Command Key, and assign the third tool to pen so that a simple tap on the corner will add a new note. But of course do whatever works for you.
Thank you for watching! 😃 I invite you to join my professional community for composers (of all styles and levels): forum.professionalcomposers.com/ Sincerely, Mike
Nice video! I'm trying to migrate from Protools, Logic has a lot of functions, but it is horrible for editing... Hope they improve it. They should just copy protools on editing.
Hey Mike, great video, thanks! Can you tell me how do you select a part of a clip and then delete it with one button? Can't seem to find it anywhere but I saw people do that. Thanks!
A couple of questions for you that don't see to be here. I'm working in Piano Roll and I decide I want to play that region that I'm editing so I can listen to my edits. Is there a way to play without exciting piano roll? Second question, I'm editing and I want to play but I want my editing region soloed. Is there a way to toggle solo for the piano roll region on and off from inside the piano roll? Thanks. These two little things would speed my workflow. I'm probably overlooking something!
Wow some new features to use for the Christmas holiday projects! :) Do anyone know of a way to freely input notes (still snapping to grid would be preferable)? As standard, Logic uses the previous inputted/selected note-length when creating new ones, which is pretty annoying when you are clicking in melodies which contain a lot of changing note-lengths. If find it far more intuitive to just go left to right all the time... I've been searching the web for so long, but can't find any info.
Hey Mikael, great one! so good. For the ones like me that are coming from Ableton, are kind of hard the way L.X treats audio loops in mp3 or wav. Could you pls make a good tut on the easiest way to manage those loops = )
Hi - great video, thanks. At Tip 7 - CMD +R - gives me a dialog box where I have to put that number of repeat in - it dosen't repeat instant - do you know why?
Is there a way to have the piano roll highlight the notes I'm pressing. For example if I play a C I want it to highlight that note all the way down the piano roll.
Hi Mike. Did you have to define something for the 2nd (and 3rd) tip? I am in piano roll and I press T but I get nothing! I press T+B and it opens a control window at the bottom of the main window! Am I doing something wrong?
can you please make a video of the settings I have to put on in order for these tips to work? I like how you showed all the keyboard tips but my logic templates don't have the H I seen highlighted on yours? maybe you have newer software lol somebody help

you can deactivate in the piano roll view with OPTION + O, or in the up section where say MIDI OUT
Awesome velocity 3rd tool option is amazing thank you!!!
Thanks for watching and glad you got value from my Logic tips! =)

btw in tip 16 you can choose the note length by numbers keys from 1 to 8 and choose triplets and dotted by 9 and 0 ;)

This was great. I was wondering if there was a way to strum out the notes so they sound more human-like. Thank you!!
Did you figure this out? It's "note flam" on the right side in the quantize section. You can edit the value/strum time there
