Hello Mickey, I transfer my photos from the camera to an external disk where I have created a folder (RAW) all my photos go there. Once the subfolder is created, I drag it to the LrCC Icon in the menu bar of my MacBook Pro, LrCC opens automatically with the photos I am transferring, then I click Import. Once in LrCC I choose the ones I want and delete the others, in my case I transfer the chosen ones to a "Collection folder" I have never had problems with lost photos, LrCC works better with all the photos in one place, less subfolder and the use of "Collection"
Collection creation is another way to go. I have a few friends that follow your process. I guess it just depends on what you are comfortable with and what works best for you. That is one of the reasons I like LRCC so much. Severals ways to accomplish the same task. Gives everyone the freedom to develop a workflow they are comfortable with.
G'day Mickey - I love your way of importing but do have one issue that I want to run by you. When I import a group of pictures LR creates not one but two folders each with the same photographs in it.. The second folder is contained within the folder I created as you described in the tutorial. How do I avoid this?
That is interesting. It is something you are doing in the process of importing. Could you tell me step by step what you do when importing. I have never had anyone describe that issue before. We could arrange a zoom meeting if you could like so we could go over your process if it continues.

I store all of my images on an external hard drive (G-drive) using the following hierarchy. Year > by date (month and day >> subject so it looks like this: 2024 > 04 April > 2024-04-30 Flicker . My downloading process is as follows: Step 1. Right click on 04-April folder and select "Create folder inside 04 April" from the drop-down menu. Step 2. Name the new folder - 2024-04-30 "Flickers" for example. Step 3. Right click on the new folder (Flickers) and select "Import to this folder." Step 4 Check in righthand column to see that the 2024-04-30 Flickers folder in highlighted in the G-drive. Step 5. Select source in the left hand column and select the pictures I want to import. Step 6 Click the import button at the bottom of the righthand panel. At this point when I check the new Flicker folder the left panel I have the following - 2024>2024-04-30 ----- 36 pictures and then below it I have a second folder showing 2024-04-30 --- 36 pictures. If I delete a picture in the lower folder it also deletes in the upper folders. I'm wondering if there's something I don't recognize in the LR preferences that is causing this to happen? Hey...don't apologize for the age thing. I am getting close....as we all are....that is why we have something like this..to help each other out. First I would check in Lightroom Preferences > Lightroom Sync tab. There is a LOCATION window. Make sure the "Use subfolders created by capture date" is not checked. Then I would check the Destination tab when you are in the import mode. There is a dropdown called ORGANIZE. Make sure 'by date' is not in that drop down. That may also be the problem. I have 'Into one folder' selected for my imports. Let me know if this helps solve your problem.
