Something I just learned about was Matter of Trust. They collect your waste hair (from haircuts, hair that comes out when you comb/wash etc) and use it to clean up oil spills and prevent oil from getting in storm drains and into our oceans. I was going to start collecting my hair that I always lose in the shower/my hairbrush and save it to send to them. Recommendation for my wavy/curly haired girls out there- Earthling Co Shampoo and Conditioner bars work amazing for me. @Tasha Thomas would you say they would be good for thick hair? I have short hair now but my hair is so thick that sometimes no matter how much I wash my hair it still feels oily or sticky.
I also use earthlingco and it is amazing! The shampoo lasts about 6 months for me and the conditioner about a year. I got my sister in-law some and she has thicker hair than me and she loves it too! She uses it on her 4 year old daughter as well! Highly recommend!

I looooooove my Tushy bidet. Funnily, I got one, used it for about a month, and then thought I didn't like it. So I unattached it and offered it to a friend. And THEN realized that I missed it. Hi Shelbi, I personally love bidets and I installed one during the start of the pandemic. Based off of what others tell me, they don’t like the feeling or sensation of water squirting into their butt, bidets can be dirty if not regularly cleaned, the feeling is unfamiliar to them, the water is cold, and they don’t like change. For me, I’m all about change and I have a removable shower head so cleaning every part of my body is never foreign to me. Just wanted to share
About the comment of "taking a shower for over an hour"... It's hard to say (at least for me) to tell people to use the least amount of water as you can. I kept up with the news in my local community (in California) and it was when droughts were getting a lot of press. More and more people did end up showering less and using up less water in general, but the news later proceeded to say this forced water bills to rise (so that I guess water supply companies can maintain a profit?). While it would be great to not waste as much water as we do, I'm afraid of sacrificing lower income people to higher water bills. There must be a better solution...
I didn't know there was water bills at all (Im from Norway). And its really odd the water bill gets higher the less water is used, with electricity its the opposite. And you would think the whole point of a water bill is to discourage people from using too much water, especially in a naturally dry area. The water bill really shouldn't rise due to less use. I almost think you shouldn't use less water if that could compromise the needs of low income households. Its super important to have enough access to water. And raising water prices in the home could either way lead to people buying more bottled water, which is not good either
Great video--thank you! And big THANK YOU for plugging your tiktok explaining how to clean and recycle the HeyHumans toothpaste! I use it also, and love it, but have several empty tubes I'm hoarding because I was unsure how to properly dispose of them. I'm pretty good at purchasing sustainably packaged items, but get anxiety when it comes time to send them to their final destination, like "I'm doing to do this wrong, and my sustainable choice will be for nothing if it ends up in landfill or contaminating recyclables/compost". Expert level eco-anxiety I guess 🤷♀
YES to bidets. My partner and I bought our first bidet just prior to the pandemic and we decided to forgo tp all together and use bum rags - we ordered some washcloths and made some out of fabric we had around; we also did not have a tp panic when supplies were low. I think everyone should try a bidet - it really is a great swap. Switching to bum rags is not for everyone and that's ok but your butthole will thank you for going with a bidet!
I get that Who Gives A Crap is the most sustainable option as to toilet paper, but i don't understand the need to wrap up every single roll instead of using a bigger wrapping for them all
I'm a student with no money and homestly the bamboo toilet paper is worth it, its not much extra feels way nicer and its more environmentally friendly according to them
Thought as soon as I moved out of my family home I'd be able to get a bidet but totally forgot to check when I looked around flats if there was access to the water tank at the back of the toilet! Unfortunately it's totally built in with no way to get to it (fingers crossed we also don't get plumbing issues... 😬) So the bidet will have to wait another day!
Oh I think I might get a leaf for my partner. He LOVES the regular safety razor I got him but for *some parts* he can't use it and has to use a disposable. Its still good because it MAJORLY decreases the amount of disposables he gets (now he rarely uses it so he rarely needs to replace it) but its that motion of the razor head that he misses for it. So Leaf would do that for him... Anniversary gift : p
My wife got me a Panasonic electric razor which I like because I no longer have to use water or shaving cream. So the razor may have higher emissions, but I believe that I have more than enough lower emissions per shave which more than makes up for it. The shave is a little different though and did take some getting used to.
@@SaveMoneySavethePlanet I dont like to shave personally, but I like to trim down there so I got a similar shaver/trimmer as a gift as well, it makes my life a lot easier and before i was using a disposable razor i didnt like and being uncomfortable. Its electric but usually the parts are replaceable and it can last really long. I think if that works for you then DO IT!
I just came watching back because my things need replacing since binge watching from last 2 years🤣 its finally time and i finally got a french press instead of coffee filters and tea bags
I was really hesitant to try a bidet, I think it was just really intimidating 😂 BUT I got one for free on Facebook marketplace so now I have a bidet 🙂 still don’t use it all the time, but I do like it.
I 100% agree with bidet! When I first bought it everyone in my household made fun of me and now they can’t live without it or use a toilet in public haba
Okay you asked. I would love to install a bidet. My toilet is not near the sink so has no hot water available and it still gets pretty cool at night sometimes and I hate cold water surprises.
Regarding hair . I have wavy thick hair. I started not using anything to wash my hair. I just rinse in the shower when I start feeling greasy. Been doing this for a couple months. I've been digging it. Ive washed one time with shampoo since then.. Because I literally got sticky food in my hair. ✌
@@Amy_Stanmore did cleaning your shower get harder cause of bar soap? I never noticed any difference really. I use blue land multi surface cleaner and a sponge then I wipe it dry with a rag and stuff comes right off.
@@Amy_Stanmore my family has used drugstore liquid wash, dove body bar, eco friendly body bars, and eco friendly liquid soap, and noticed zero difference. Wonder if it’s because of your water.
Hey :) I don't know if you talked about it yet and I maybe missed it, but I'd really love to hear your take about cleaning the house (or even our bodies) with effective microorganisms. I love homemade cultured food and even experimenting with fermented stuff in non conventional ways (such as rinsing my hair with over fermented water kefir xD) so this topic caught my attention...but I still feel I need to educate myself and come to a better understanding of the whole thing to see if that could be a suitable solution for cleaning my house and hopefully replacing some stuff I'm not totally happy about from an environmental viewpoint
Do you or your home smell bad when you use that stuff instead of regular soap? I just imagine that would be an issue, fermented things tend to smell bad. And I and lots of other people wouldn't want that. Personally I just started washing myself with no products at all, not even shampoo or hand soap, I use water only and it does get me clean. It was kind of an accident I found out its not needed, as using the wrong skincare product gave me really bad rash for several months and I just avoided anything of that nature to be sure I dont trigger allergy again and instead recover. By now the problem is pretty much over
@@zakosist it actually smells pretty good. Also I often ferment it with citrus peel so the smell is slightly like orange/lemon. For most stuff I agree that water alone is enough
Omg who gives a crap is an excellent brand. One box for me lasts all year because I live alone and keep minimal guests since I live in a small condo but highly recommend them also!!!!
May I ask what Madison uses in the shower? I know she has a different hair texture. Does she also use the same shampoo or does she have other products that she brings into the shower? Sorry for the odd question, I just think being low waste with a partner is really interesting EDIT: Just realized she still has dreads, so she probably uses something else to wash them anyway
I found in a lot of goodwills in FL there are bags of toiletries and soap stuff. Ive seen a bag of like 20 Dove soap bars for sale for like $5 at goodwill. I normally purchase soap from my local health food store because they’re unpacked bars but i think i’ll start buying from goodwill since if they’re not sold they’ll probably get trashed. Also Grove collective is sold at target and they also sell little tabs for cleaners you can use just like blue land AND they sell hand soap and dish soap refills in aluminum!
I love this! Thanks for going into your bathroom ha - I appreciated your jokes and acknowledgement of the oddness of it. But it was great! I am happy to learn about your DIY mouthwash.
OH and I got a Tushy bidet because of you. I got it as a christmas gift to my man (but also for me hehe) and we never even tried one before. Not only does he love it, but it means we hardly go through any tp and we're intending to try unTP/butt towels because we don't really need tp with it. Keepin it around for guests and also just like... as tissues because *he doesnt like hankies* but we agreed we dont need tp really.
I WANT TO ALSO MENTION A BIDET IS A GAMECHANGER DURING PERIODS LADIES i never really used much tp except on periods and you dont understand if you dont have one. You feel so much better. so much better just being clean on your period. and way less tp used up and its a blessing. I don't feel like i need a shower every 5 seconds. Get one ladies you wont regret it. changed muh life
I miss Who Gives a Crap, I moved to Hawaii and to ship it here is about $40 if I remember correctly, so not very sustainable for my family. I was surprised, too, by how little I can do here in Hawaii for the environment. There’s not even recycling in my city. I do have good systems in place, we buy very little and don’t use anything disposable except toilet paper if that counts 😅 but no paper towels or anything else. Anyway hey a good video idea might be state by state ideas of what we can do to help out!
5:35 can you list those bad chemicals? And maybe you should list some specific brands of sunscreen that you at least know avoid those. By the way I have found out by experience that in order to get clean, the only thing you truly need is water. You dont even need soap or any sort of shower product including shampoo (but using a refillable, eco-friendly shampoo if you have acces doesnt seem bad at all). That can help cut down on waste a lot and something more people should know. Only skincare products I still think I "need" is sunscreen and moisturizer sometimes
I'm a bit picky when it comes to soap bars. Becuase I feel a lot better when I use unscented soap, so I buy Dr Bronner's soap baby soap. And I local soap maker I know personally doesn't sell unscented soap.
Bidets are LIFE. So funny you posted this today because my sister literally told me I should do a video about the bathroom because she realized that no matter what it is, if she throws something away in the bathroom, it's going in the trash.. just because it's in the bathroom! It's like a mental thing..... even the middle cardboard part of the toilet paper roll! I was shooook. But anyhow.... thanks for the video!!!
Such a great video! I'm curious if you use any essential oils, medicines or first aid stuff? I've tried patch bamboo bandaids (which aren't my fave) but haven't really done a deep dive into anything else in that category yet.
Haven't bought a tushy bidet yet because we have hard water and it was messing up my gut just drinking it (even after Charcoal filter). Once we get a water Softener super excited to look into a tushy and to drink tap water again!
Can you review Cocokind skincare? They're packaged in plastic but they have sustainability facts on their packaging showing carbon emissions, recyclability, and where their products were made.
I don't have a bidet because I would have to do construction to get one with hot water and I'm not sure I'd like one with only cold water. I dated a guy with a fancy warm one, though, and it was great.
The reason I haven't got a bidet is that I have a rental and the toilet is like... Attached to the tiles in a way where I can't install/fix it without breaking the tiles.
@@caminte I have considered this. There are also teapot thingies. But wouldn't I have to run the water for a while every time to get warm water? Or is cold water fine?

For me, I’m all about change and I have a removable shower head so cleaning every part of my body is never foreign to me. Just wanted to share
I just watched your old bathroom essentials last night how funny 🤣
I am very fair with sensitive skin, so I understand how important it can be. I have had luck with a few safer options. Learning so much from you!
I use Dent tabs with fluoride. I like them, can order from Amazon, and are zero waste.
Switching to bum rags is not for everyone and that's ok but your butthole will thank you for going with a bidet!
you can use cotton towels for compost bins, especially for those with worms!!! they love them!
I get that Who Gives A Crap is the most sustainable option as to toilet paper, but i don't understand the need to wrap up every single roll instead of using a bigger wrapping for them all
I'm a student with no money and homestly the bamboo toilet paper is worth it, its not much extra feels way nicer and its more environmentally friendly according to them
I really wished OSEA had a take back program. We have no glass recycling where I live
It’s not perfect, but we usually use the Toms of Maine fluoride toothpaste. The tube is plastic, but it is recyclable.
I have two portable bidets-one in my backpack for practicing true Leave No Trace principals, and one in my SUV for off grid adventures. Love it. 💦
Got my second box of Who Gives a Crap a few days ago. I like being stocked up and not having to think about it.
I haven't tried a bidet because I've heard the bidets that attach to the toilet (vs the standalone kind) can cause blatter infection.
Getting ready to start my minimalism journey and looking for some tips and tricks for beginners. I’m already in love with your channel❤😊
Dropps also has a foaming hand soap and they have the dish spray and dishwasher tablets. You should check them out
I just came watching back because my things need replacing since binge watching from last 2 years🤣 its finally time and i finally got a french press instead of coffee filters and tea bags
I was really hesitant to try a bidet, I think it was just really intimidating 😂 BUT I got one for free on Facebook marketplace so now I have a bidet 🙂 still don’t use it all the time, but I do like it.
I googled Native refillable deodorant and it looks like they do have a kit online right now that you can purchase!
Where because I can’t find it
for your question about bidets, they cost a lot of money up front, that's the only reason why.
Wash right away with sard wonder soap if you like it works well and in a soap bar. How eco not sure though
I only recently started using bar shampoo cause of videos like these and I love it!
Looking forward to trying out some of these other options next 😀
Have fun cleaning the shower cos of bar soap then 😆
@@Amy_Stanmore did cleaning your shower get harder cause of bar soap? I never noticed any difference really. I use blue land multi surface cleaner and a sponge then I wipe it dry with a rag and stuff comes right off.
@@Amy_Stanmore my family has used drugstore liquid wash, dove body bar, eco friendly body bars, and eco friendly liquid soap, and noticed zero difference. Wonder if it’s because of your water.
Hey :)
I don't know if you talked about it yet and I maybe missed it, but I'd really love to hear your take about cleaning the house (or even our bodies) with effective microorganisms.
@@dermatitx good to hear
Omg who gives a crap is an excellent brand. One box for me lasts all year because I live alone and keep minimal guests since I live in a small condo but highly recommend them also!!!!
I dried out my wedding bouquet too! 😍
What about like, toilet plungers? You pulled out that brush and I was like oh, never thought of that kind of stuff.
May I ask what Madison uses in the shower? I know she has a different hair texture. Does she also use the same shampoo or does she have other products that she brings into the shower? Sorry for the odd question, I just think being low waste with a partner is really interesting
EDIT: Just realized she still has dreads, so she probably uses something else to wash them anyway
Oh man I’ve been looking for a makeup remover swap. It’s my one super guilty purchase. Thank you for sharing your alternative options!!!!
i wish you talked about the hairbrushes :(
i cant find any sustainable ones that wont hurt my head
I love this! Thanks for going into your bathroom ha - I appreciated your jokes and acknowledgement of the oddness of it. But it was great! I am happy to learn about your DIY mouthwash.
Just placed my first order with Who Gives A Crap! I also blasted my family with links to the website. Thanks for the discount code! ❤️
I WANT TO ALSO MENTION A BIDET IS A GAMECHANGER DURING PERIODS LADIES
i never really used much tp except on periods and you dont understand if you dont have one.
If you are in the Minneapolis area, Tare Market sells bulk toothpaste tabs with fluoride!
I love my bidet! In fact, my partner and I love it so much we bought a portable one 🤣
Not sure if it’s available outside the UK, but Waken Mouthcare’s toothpaste in recyclable aluminium packaging is lovely
Or is cold water fine?
do u have to wash ur makeup cloth thingy hehe seems btr for ur skin ! love ur zero waste vidss
I would love it if you would do a pro con video on bidets!! 😃
The Period Company makes period underwear and it’s way more affordable ranging from $12-$24. I have two so far and intend to buy more.
Much love from Salt Lake City! Hope your week is going well!
My boyfriend really wants a toilet brush and I've been putting off getting one but now I know I can get a plastic free one I might finally have a compromise 🥰
I have one, just haven’t installed it :( do a video on how to install it
That grove makeup remover looks good
I have tried bidets and enjoy them (especially at that time of month), but my husband never has and he's convinced it would be weird and he wouldn't like it. Someday I'll go ahead and get us one, and I just know he'll become a convert.
Sun shirts are so underrated!
For ur sustainable TP does it break down quickly to beagle to be safe in a camper septic tank?
Been using the TP for several years; you have convinced me to order the butt washer! Can't wait until it arrives.
Love the music! Great passion and awesome guest! 😎
OH MY GOSH!!!!!! were did you get your toliet brush and holder?????
Oh never mind kept watching and found it...thanks
Kind of crazy just saw my dad's newest collgate tube and it said recycleable : |, they might be making progress there, was shocked, kinda cool.
Hey shelbi about the wooden toilet brush. I’ve been wanting to get one and i would probably be like you and likely not replace it often. But how do you.. care for it? Lol i suppose if we’re using it with cleaner it’s technically kinda clean?
When i tell you i got the notification you uploaded the video and JUMPED to my laptop to see it! Thank you for the help! ^_^
I’ve been making loads of ecoswaps over the years & now it’s tie for a new shower head…. Looking for recommendations pls! 🚿🚿🚿
Do you dry off with toilet paper after using the bidet??
Yesss needed this video. I know you have plenty, but I was really hoping you’d update us 😌
I was able to buy some more Thinx using my FSA!
Just a heads up Ren is owned by Unilever. No judgment at all, but I know Shelbi has said she wasn’t a fan of Unilever before and thought I’d mention it in case you aren’t ware.
you should check out moondust powder shampoo.
