Finally a watchable tip video for new players! Great job breaking things down and not getting too meta. Less than ten minutes and usable tips off the rip. Thanks!
When I was in the last round and one of the skips offered a boss blind reroll and the boss blind was 300,000, I took it and dropped the blind to 100,000.
Just won my first game after playing for a couple days! I played with the yellow deck and had a "Straight" build that smoked everything by Ante 7 &8. Didn't get much further than that - looking forward to implementing these ideas and improving. Cheers! ♠️
This is the best Balatro guide I've seen! New player here, I finally beat Ante 8- I can't imagine taking this game to the levels you play but maybe someday
Also, I forgot to mention. If I don’t hit a one hand win on the very first blind, I just chalk the whole run. gotta get that sweet, sweet money rolling lol
@ hey Beans, can you please make a video on the best Jokers to unlock through challenges for new players? Now that I know there are challenges to unlock way better jokers, I will tank a run to get that joker lol. discarding a royal flush, stuff like that
I'm new to this game, this week, but I feel like the skip can be pretty handy for getting zero cost powerful jokers early... especially if they come negative and uncommon or rare. I don't bother it for packs or cash, and I haven't been doing it later in runs... but in the first ante or two, I'll go for a free joker. Still new, and I don't really KNOW... but it feels powerful enough to be right.
Usually no, since you have no idea what you're going to get and whether it will even help you, and the cost of a rare joker is going to be less than the money you get from a round + interest (and if it isn't yet, it will be in opportunity cost). It's not always a bad choice in low difficulty runs, but in higher difficulties it can easily kill your run. On Gold stake it's basically never worth it.
You usually don't want the 0 cost jokers as you have no control over what you see. It can be rubbish you don't want. It's worth more to grab money from playing and buying the jokers you need.
@@plokminge If you have no jokers you aren't going to win beyond hand 2-3... and in the first couple hands you aren't going to have money to reroll for the exact joker you need... you have to take temp jokers just to win early hands and a free rare one is a lot better than hoping you get a good one on the one roll you can afford to get one joker.
@@Nathan-gs5tw Dude, the money you get from round 1 is $3 if you're lucky. The Joker you get is worth more than that (pretty much regardless of which one it is), and it has +10 mult, +50 chips, or at worst X1.5 mult.
as for tip 8: This is the reason I opt to go for 2-rank decks, or 2-rank builds Having 4 decks can be hard to get your flushes with, but having only 1 can be easily countered by a boss So having 2 really just raises your odds to the maximum
I slept on the blue seal for the longest time. Didn't realise the true power of it until I tried to get the unlock that requires you to win a run with only one joker, which I managed to do with the checkered deck and a polychrome supernova.
Oh! That's what Tags are. Skipped only three times and Found Out what you just stated: It makes the Boss and progress in general harder. Did start using your flush tip to get my first 8th ante win yesterday with green deck.
Thanks for making this. I'm not a newbie, but I'm starting to have trouble getting some of the jokers (can't get past ante 11, for example). I didn't just want to read the wiki, so I'm glad you gave some spoiler free tips. I completely missed that the booster packs never contain the cards you have in your consumable slots. Now the legendary joker that creates negative cards makes more sense. I should probably use the blue seal more, but I guess I just love finding those lucky cards that fit my build too much lol
I was looking for this comment! I'll often start a new game repeatedly until I get two two tags that I really like back to back, then I skipped the first two rounds
4:04 Strength is an underrated tarot for this reason I only hear people talk about hang man and death but strength is really handy early game if you don’t have the other two or you’d rather turn a 10 into a jack instead of destroy it
I watched this video after playing it for 12 hours, I regularly skip shops, especially when I see free jokers 😳. Just beaten my first run, so I guess it’s working pretty good for me, thanks to all the Isaac and online poker I have played 😆
Thabks for the video. Got my first win on day 2 of owning the game. Not bad. I did a hearts multiplier and hearts and diamonds count as same suit so I was getting flushes every hand. 😂
I feel like I will never get the 1000 million hand lol is there any chance of doing a short video showing the full page list of all the jokers I have a handful of jokes that I don’t know what they are as they are greyed out and it just says select the joker to reveal it but I don’t know which they are if that makes sense. I can’t find this info anywhere would be very helpful.
Any joker that is still blank and already "unlocked" just needs to be picked during a run. If you hover over a joker in the shop and it says "not discovered" then buy it and it will show up in your collection
@@ZacharyAaronHerestuntman has been one of the greatest chips joker I’ve used in gold stake runs. Picking it up early with a scaling mult joker and it’s basically a guaranteed win on any deck
Reason matters there. This is a new player guide. New players should be trying to play as many hands and using as many different jokers as possible. Advanced players should absolutely skip some stuff when appropriate and ofc in situations like Throwback, 10000% skip everything, but new players wont know when its appropriate to skip
Thank you for this guide. Currently trying to unlock all the jokers before I try to finish decks up with all the stakes. Is there a possibility for an endless guide? That’s when I get the most fun to see all the big numbers but I’ve never beat ante 12 round 1 😂
When saving up for that initial $25, I'm assuming you at least buy at least a joker or two along the way? I'm guessing absolutely no planets, but how about a tarot? I def still struggle to get off the ground on consistently with (currently) just a red stake, magic deck. My prospects for raising the stakes are looking grim ha.
Thanks for the infos. I got the game since launch and always sucked to it. Love it still but so frustrating. Got a massive win naturally on mobile version and want to return to it on PC too but the wins not being obtainable even at lowest difficulty pissed me off.
Definitely good to not skip too much, but I only got my first win in a match where I skipped a lot (the tags gave me multiple free holo negative jokers, which is super lucky but still). I got my first win on round 10 lmao
1:29 exactly what do you mean by saying 'increase the difficulty of your run'? Do you mean by just skipping the following round and thus not going to the shop, or does skipping also increase the points required for each round exponentially?
Good question, I mean by skipping you are going to the next round which will be harder and gives you less time to scale your jokers. You also lose out on the end of round money and interest you would normally get by just playing the round, and you miss out seeing a shop which gives you ways to increase your overall build. The blind scores don't scale in difficulty by skipping but you are essentially moving forward in time by one round so you want to ask yourself, "can i beat this next blind with the build I currently have and is the skip tag worth it to lose out on all the benefits I get by just playing the round?" Hope that helps!
Curious how other people feel but most spectral cards are more often absolute trash than not. They are just such crazy high risk unless you are playing a seeded run where you could restart.
I think a lot of spectral cards can be trouble for a lot of runs but I love opening up Spectral packs for the hope I get Immolate or the chance to add a blue or red seal on a card that I use for that particular run. It's the thrill of the hunt!
I think spectral cards are fantastic. Talisman, aura, medium, cryptid and black hole are compatible with any deck. Ankh and hex work the best when you have one joker. Familiar, grim and incantation work great with hologram joker or if you are looking for face cards or aces. Wraith works great with credit card joker or in any scenario where you need to climb out of debt. Ectoplasm is good for mid to late game when you need more jokers. Ouija paired with turtle bean or juggle tag can make a fun deck. Sigil or soul cards are the disappointing ones. Over all about half of the spectral cards can be used with any deck or build, I find them to be more reliable and better than most tarot card packs.
Is there any fairly consistent way to get negative jokers outside of skipping blinds? I’ll usually always skip a blind if the reward is a negative joker…but that’s about the only time I do that.
Not consistent but you can get a negative joker from Ectoplasm in Spectral packs. There's also just a small chance of negative jokers appearing in the shop so having good econ with the power to reroll a bunch could net you some negative jokers.
My biggest problem with a game like this is that my mind is not capable of remembering all the different joker combos i liked lol. My brain just doesnt retain that type of info. The free shop skip is absolutely great during first ante. For any skill level.
When we're in the first round, and the boss blind is "all cards played this ante are debuffed" and the skip tags are both $25, that's the move.
indeed!
When I was in the last round and one of the skips offered a boss blind reroll and the boss blind was 300,000, I took it and dropped the blind to 100,000.
