I don’t know the hate on the automatics, sure you aren’t rowing your gears (though it has a manual shift mode) but that tranny has nice short sporty gearing and it’s very easy easy to get the tail sliding with traction control disabled. So yeah it isn’t a manual but it isn’t a bad transmission either.
I own two 5MT IS300's. Yes, I lucked out, but anyway, they are great cars. I did own an SC300 which was also nice, but having four doors is very convenient. I would recommend.

Honestly might pick up one of these and drive it until car heaven, reliable motors and who doesn’t like that tail end?

Love mine. Wanted one forever and finally picked one up after high school. Five years strong with my baby
I already got mine for a steal. Being having it a year and it is by far the most fun car I’ve ever had. May the prices go up !
Stop making these videos. I don’t need you raising the price on Craigslist for unappreciated cars
😬😂
Lol would be great to know how many people are immediately searching CL and Marketplace for one after these get posted
Best car ever! I may be biased🤷🏻♂️
I love this because I have an is300 myself and I daily it, eventually I will put in the money to turbo it and put out some big numbers 👌🏽
Save up, then save up some more, don't aim for the moon on power numbers and enjoy it. 400whp on these things is an absolute blast!
@@LucoreAuto i want to do that but I'm afraid of blowing the engine or not knowing what to add to get their.
@@MWAclanGaming well feel free to reach out on our channel or IG and we'll happily assist!
Hey mate, I am about to buy one, what first modifications do you reccomend, i was thinking a new timing belt, waterpump, sparkplugs and wheel alignment, is there anything else i need to do as soon as i get it? also how reliable is the car?
“wHy DoEs It SoUnD lIkE a 2jz”
Speedy McGrainR bro it was a joke, the is300 has a 2jz ge from the factory. It’s a non turbo 2JZ. I said it to be ironic lmao
@@spaz8461 it basically is a 2jz?? Uhh it is a 2jz.... tf

I live France, i buy a IS300H Gen. 3 (yes it's an hybrid car), i'm soooo proud of it, this car is excellent ! Good chassis, comfortable, from far my best daily ever (i have 330 E92 previously)
The first generation IS300 will always have a special place in my heart. It's what introduced me into the Lexus brand and is underrated. However I still prefer the IS-F.
I literally just decided last night I'm saving to get an is300, perfect timing eh
dope
I hope prices dont shoot up
How much do they go for where you are? In NZ they're quite rare and go for about 6-10nzd, we get the is200 and toyota altezza with the 3sge cheaper over here
@@seamusmurphy175 I'm in the states in the northwest, depending on the condition they go from like 3.5-6k ish
Happy hunting, the clean manual ones are getting tricky to find depending where you are!
One of my favorite things about IS300 drivers is that they always debadge the lexus emblems and put on Altezza badging. Altezza is such a better name
I much prefer the altezza logo in my opinion as well
All the jdm names for the lexus lineup sounds way nicer than the north American names
i prefer the lexus logo! altezza looks more sleek yeah but im driving a lexus not an altezza 😡
Had my 01 Is300 for 9months bought it for 5k with 128k miles with very light rust underneath. Sitting on Megan coils & some nice 18in wheels so I didn’t have to do anything there. I went straight to maintenance replaced Valve cover gasket, Spark plugs, ignition coils & wires, new battery, o2sensors, and thermostat. I use it daily and been running like a champ no complaints
Altezza gang where you at 🤝
lol just had to come to this video bc i came apon and bought my is300 for $650....
98 sxe10 here
Yes!!!!!! I have been wanting this episode for a long time, love the is300 1st generation!!!
I’ll much rather have a “ forgotten car “ then any of these new ones . That just means they are rare
Coming from an is300 owner he’s not lying its a fun little car even stock
For SURE, though it's not rated with a ton of power they are super comfortable and sporty even "tossable" in stock form... as long as its been maintained. Many you'll find at this point are beaten up and worn out unfortunately
Handles like a go kart 🔥🔥
Thank you for shining a light on this car. It’s not talked a lot in the car community but this is an extremely amazing car. I have 2 and I love them so much
I own two as well. Haha. Nice to see it's a trend.
Haha I have 2 as well. Great cars!
POV: You're watching in 2021 and they just blew up in the car scene so they're super expensive now.
(I picked one up myself about a year ago and I've never regretted it)
im about to buy one, and boy do i wish i did sooner
Just scooped one for $1200, only needed a fuel pump and some exterior cosmetic work. 2nd one I’ve owned

Hows it going so far? Im 16 and trying to get one as my first car.
Good video also one thing to mention is the 2jz in the is300 are also in the gs300 and sc300, so there's 3 to pick from
Is300 is the smallest chassis to have the 2jz but all 3 are great 🔥
Indeed but no GS300 or SC300 manuals :( So before you even get started on a project build you are already eyeballing a big first step of auto-manual conversion
@@LucoreAuto there are sc300 manuals between 92 and 97. Sadly none for the gs300 but i heard there's a kit that used the 5 speed from the 240sx
@@sounddrivenofficial technically exist but very VERY hard to find. And unfortunately something that rare usually means unlikely to be torn apart and turned into a "build"
There's always a WAY.. just get ready to put in some WORK!
The IS300 wagon looks pretty neat.
Already got one it's a great reliable car
My first Lexus was the IS300. Loved it and had the car for 2 years then upgraded to the IS350. They were both fun cars. Ever since then I have owned and driven 6 other Lexus. Great cars!
Hey mate, I am about to buy one, what first modifications do you reccomend, i was thinking a new timing belt, waterpump, sparkplugs and wheel alignment, is there anything else i need to do as soon as i get it? also how reliable is the car?
I had a GTE swapped is300 and it was beautiful...definetely getting another one and building it from scratch
I'm selling my 2002 is300 78k miles on it. Idk about that oil consumption problem i have never had that and the belt still looks good, it's an easy car too work on and very reliable too.
Hot take:
So you want a "Toyota Aristo".
Meanwhile, watching this in my Toyota Aristo JZS160 aka Lexus GS300
@@isundgrensakeri a gs3 is no where near an aristo lmao, and i own one
@@z33avery30 Let's see, they share the same platform, they share the same body, the major difference is the non turbo engine and the left hand steering that the GS version recieved as the JZS160 while the JZS161 got the GTE engine and right hand drive and most likely a more beefy drivetrain overall.
YES, PLEASE! Wrote a comment asking for the gs 300 as the Aristo isn't as common, but pleeeeaaase make an episode on that fitment industries
I had 2 of them at one point, I tried to be an adult and grow up. I had the JZS161 but within 3 months got bored lol
Definitely best car I’ve ever owned especially if you manage to find a manual. Literally only downside is the mpg 😬
and premium gas requirement.
Im on my second is300. I got a sportcross after my sedan got rear ended. I absolutely love these cars
That's why I got the is300 sportcross! Been enjoying this ride than any other car I owned so far.
im back Alex, Wheres the " So You Want a Bmw 335i " vid at, i know you want to do it.
Expensive to own
Just snagged an electric green mica 04 with 50k miles. Love it.
Finally dude. I got one myself, 5 speed manual. Im very happy :)
Just bought my first car, ‘01 IS300 can’t wait for this new experience
hows it going
Love this car. Im looking to get one and having a goal to either modify it to almost match the supra mkIV or completely swap. Also for people who want a manual you have a better chance to swap it coz a manual will cost alot of money.
I love how people always forget about this car. They have their own cult following just like WRXs'. They're like a little secret making em that much better but there is one car that receives even less attention and also has a 2jz. All I'm saying fitment is that for the next video... "So you want a SC300"
Nice to see the IS300 getting some love from you guys, surprised our Boosted_Lexi didn't make it in the clips though! Either way, thanks for shining a light on a few of the builds out there keep it up!
I've got one, headlights still clear, nothing Is fading or peeling, well only the clear coat on the roof but that's it, have never snapped a belt or anything like that haha 😂
Take care of your ride and itll take care of you
I had these Lexus IS 300 gotta say it's a great car I added new wheels and rotors also an exhaust system I installed a greddy RS and Adohan wheels with some stretched continentals I gave it to my brother now he owns it :) since I upgraded to a mustang GT 5.0
I love mine. The last 2jz carrier. I’m at over 300,000 miles. From MA USA to Paris France, Czech Republic, Poland, west Europe and back. Still woks. I LOVE the IS300.
Got mine last year and it’s so good! It’s a 2002 so it needs some work here & there but I love it
I just dropped 1.5k to upgrade/tune my awful engine leak on my 02', I've only had it for about a year and a half now, they did not take the best care of it. I got it for 2k down from 3 with some nice haggling, dude said the a.c. worked, NOPE. That alone is a k to fix.
Anyway
I wish you the best with fixing/tuning it up.
Proud 05 is300 owner here!!
My first car was a 2005 Manual IS300, great car, seats werent comfortable tho.... lol. But it was definitely a eye catching car even in stock form, especially from other car enthusiasts. I had many people try to buy it from me but I always declined, its gone now...
Hey mate, I am about to buy one, what first modifications do you reccomend, i was thinking a new timing belt, waterpump, sparkplugs and wheel alignment, is there anything else i need to do as soon as i get it? also how reliable is the car?
Last year I picked up an 03 is for $800. She has 233k on it and is auto(for now), yet she is a running machine. For dirt cheap, me and my kids are building it for mo powa baby! I love this platform.
And when I say kids I mean my 12 and 10 year olds. They will learn proper fabrication and mechanic skills young.

This was my first car handed down to me.car is a true Toyota reliability wise. Sold it for 4K in 2019 180 miles it was an 01 grey/silver auto trans. I would recommend getting an 02+ as they changed the pcv system on the Newer Years up. “Went from cheap rubber to a quality metal pcv valve”.
Just bought one in 7/10 condition for 4K. This car handles crazy. Lexus knows how to make a car.
My ‘02 manual has 170K miles, 2nd owner after my uncle. just changed the timing belt and trying to do some mods. I’m keeping it till it explodes lol
The dash melts but I still love it
Nail polish remover to get the sticky off and then gloss vinyl/fabric spray paint to make it look great again.
This makes me Happy ❤ I love my IS300!
I just picked one up 2 days ago, wanted it since I was in high school, overpriced but I got it anyway and are going through and replacing stuff while saving to have the timing belt changed. I love this car!
I really miss car this and the SC300. For those who still have the original IS running, hats off to you.
Ive had 3 of them, looking to get a 4th. Theyre great cars.
The is300 sportcross is one of my dream cars, but ONLY the sportcross
imagine... if they had built it with a manual option :(
Only auto... I got a jdm one
You make me WANT an IS300 or even IS200, daamn they look so good with all the lips, wings, lowered suspension and widebody on it!
I own two 5MT IS300's. Yes, I lucked out, but anyway, they are great cars. I did own an SC300 which was also nice, but having four doors is very convenient. I would recommend.
i have used the Toyota Altezza since 2013. it snapped its timing belt early this year, no regrets tho, am definitely getting another one..! Love it to bits..!
you're a dumbass for destroying a 2JZ
Glad I came across your video I’m looking to get a Lexus IS
I picked one up one of the best cars I've had
I’ve been wanting this car for longest time and for some reason I’m seeing them pop up every where and I don’t like that bcs I wanted to be unique since I don’t see them a lot and be like one of the only ones and since they’re popping up everywhere they’re gonna be more rare and more expensive😩😩
I’m lucky I got mine right now and I’m 15, still can’t believe it, and I got it for 2400 from a friend, such a awesome car
Gated 5spd manual IS300's are still pretty highly sought-after in my neck of the woods. Respect!
Do a 2nd Gen GS300 🤘🏽
Or 3rd gen 😋
I had an amazing chance to get one of these for my first car after saving almost all of my money for a year and my parents talked me out of that and I literally want to slam my head through the windshield of this garbage Volvo I got for 1200 bucks instead and I’m frustrated and sorry for making you read this.
Save up for another one dude. It'll take patience but will feel more satisfying.
🤣 I feel you bro parents love talking you outta shit but they’ll do it themselves if they were you 🤣 “garbage Volvo” 😭😭😭

Watch out for crappy cheap radiator caps that leaks causing head gasket failure, buy an oem toyota radiator cap to fix this issue.
I love the IS300/Altezza. Same, but not the same car!! Perfect size, shape and lines for a compact-ish luxury sedan.
