They thanked him heartily for his kindness and never failed to show their respect for him. It is easy to imagine they would have wanted him to enjoy the Japanese Cherry Blossoms as a token of their gratitude.

The trees that ended up surviving in the US were in fact found on short notice by looting them from Korea. The ones you see are Korean trees, stolen by Japanese imperialist colonizers, the same brutal fascist regime that would attack Pearl Harbor on December 7th, 1941.
I realize producers are only given a few minutes for these segments, but it seems like a shame to leave out that the relationship started with these trees didn't end with the original 3,000. Both countries have helped the other multiple times by sending cuttings to restore damaged groves.

There's nothing quite as ethereally beautiful as spring blossom. In Japan the sakura are so revered that they even use the bark to create pink dye for fabric. It's done in the old tradition ways. What makes it so special is that you can only extract the pink colour from the tree for the 2-3 weeks when they are in flower. Magic.
My cherry trees weren't happy this year due to the weather bouncing between spring and winter 3 times. It ruined most of the flower buds so my trees only had flowers for 3 days

We have true great native flowering trees which bloom at this time like the salimbobog (Crateva religiosa) and salinggogon (Cratoxylum formosum). You can search what they look like.

Ross who built the three dams along the Skagit, that supply electrical power to Seattle. That some starts were taken from the Japanese cherry trees in Washington DC, and transplanted to Diablo. Now the trunks of those trees are 3 or 4 ft across. IBEW Local 77.
