I tend to think the obsession of low miles = great car is overrated. Especially with diesels, they need to be used and used regularly to keep all well. Great job again Jimmy 👍

Agreed.. With Diesels higher miles might be better

Agree. My Qashqai has 340,000kms on it now, all motorway/long distance driving and no problems ever with the dpf getting blocked. If someone does short runs in their car, get a petrol. Otherwise you're just asking for trouble using a diesel for short trips.

Agreed my current diesel struggled it's emissions this year as it had 900 miles in a year I hadn't driven due to illness. Every year prior emissions virtually zero.

Amazing knowledge, Jimmy! We need more mechanics like you. I just don't understand how there seem to be so many garages that don't know or understand what they are doing where dpf's are concerned.

Brilliant as usual Jimmy, the problem is the industry has promoted regens as the cure and this is proven to be wrong , as you say the dpf is just a filter so the cause is something else , im sharing your content with all my colleagues . Keep up the good work 👍

Poor Yaris, probably the first time it's been anywhere near 3000 rpm.

Good job, should have checked the oil level if the dpf not working the fuel goes into the sump.

Thank you for the vid. Very useful! I have a 2013 Toyota Yaris with a DPF and the engine has 130.000km (80.000 miles). I have a problem with the oil level due to very frequent regens (I counted that regens occur every 250-300 km. So the oil level increases at every 2.000 or 3.000 km and a spanner turns on on the dashboard. I visited a TOYOTA dealer last year and they said that the DPF is in a good condition. Three months ago I visited another mechanic because the spanner was on again. He made a forced regen (after that the DPF was at 15%). Also he changed the oil. Now the spanner is on again and the mechanic says that I have to change the oil... This is very confusing and I am kind of desperate. It is simply unaffordable to have an oil change every 3 or 4 months. So my question is: If the DPF is in a good condition, then why does my Yaris regen so often? Could it be a problem on the electronics or the engine management system? Could we simply adjust somehow the way or frequency that regens occur, perhaps by using some additives?

Hi, i have a 2010 Auris with the 1.4 D4D and in my case the message was "Change Oil" (or something like that), although i changed it and reset the message. The Toyota dealer told me the DPF needed to be changed, but i asked another mechanic, and the diagnostic machine revealed to be a problem with i think the "differential pressure sensor" of the DPF. I dont remember exactly but hope it helps.

@@TheMr393 Thanks for the response. Is it OKAY now? How many miles or klms have you done since then or how long ago did you fix it? Do you remember if it was expensive?

@@user-iy8vj3np8b Yeah no more issues. The change oil message doesnt appeare more like before. I repaired it at 203.000 kms and now has 209.000. It cost me around 260€.

Hello, I have this same car, it is exasperating every moment it does the regeneration with an increase in the oil level mixed with diesel, a problematic engine, the D4D with DPF, I clean the egr and nothing, I drive the car at 2,500 revolutions per minute and nothing always regenerates.

    • @ORileysAutos
