      form52 Mine is actually this one or The Trooper. Iron Maiden has my full respect but they’re not necessarily the sound I generally crave though, so I do the occasional listen of a few great ones every couple months or so

      ~it's slowly getting a wider and wider fanbase as the years go by (think of how many festival's we have these days all over the world compared to how many in the 80's or 90's and how many people go to them! it's not just ALL the metal fans going to ALL the festival's ALL the time!!) . . . it's only a matter of time before SO many people like METAL that the mainstream media can't ignore it anymore or present it tongue in cheek like spinal tap !!

      Too bad McBrain implemented his own drumming style to this track. Clive's drumming was really an "extra point" to hallowed be thy name's legacy which many consider it to be a metal gem.

      NickThe Greek Agreed and definitely a gem

    • @tominatorxx
      @tominatorxx 6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      I actually like how both Clive's and Nicko's drumming make the albums (on which they played) sound so unique. I mean for example The Number Of The Beast is big bombastic and epic, Piece Of Mind is darker and more atmospheric. Like you said Clive was very bombastic and Nicko is very groove focused. Both great, both unique.
      That said I have to say I like Nicko's versions of Hallowed Be Thy Name live a lot as well. It's different for sure but I'm glad he brings his own style to it. It wouldn't work if he just tried to copy Clive's style.

    • @adamhendrickson512
      @adamhendrickson512 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      True... Nicko is just as good as Clive in his own way, and in some ways better and more technical... The thing I like about Nicko is, there is no single drum/symbol in his entire kit which is not played. In the case of Clive, he stuck more to the hi-hat, whereas, nicko uses the hi-hat and the bell ride for keeping rhythm and every last tom, for the fills and never forgets the side tom, which many drummers don't use that much.

      And therein lies the problem Pinkmetalhead was talking about. When any of these guys are talked about being one of the best vocalists, the qualifier "metal" is always thrown in. The fact that they are excellent vocalists and singers even when compared to other genres seems to always be overlooked. It's really a shame as there are a LOT of excellent singers/vocalists in metal that could easily stack up against (and totally blow away) singers outside of metal as well.

    Because metal hardly ever gets the recognition it deserves. That's why metal is the greatest and is like being in a big family. Even with complete strangers. Because we all KNOW it's the greatest and those who down it or don't get it can go fuck off. The only recognition the bands want is from the fans themselves. Maiden, Priest, Dio, Sabbath, etc. All sold and selling millions of albums and downloads with hardly any radio or tv play.

    What metalhead doesn't love Iron Maiden. All their songs are so catchy and well produced. But the best is to watch them live. The quality is even better, and the vocals are way better in my opinion. Even thought they have already passed the 60 yr old barrier, they are more energetic than most of the young metal bands. Those are the reasons that makes them the biggest metal band to watch live. The have filled huge stadiums and bigger venues, and hold many records of concert attendance. They're are the only band in the world that have their own jumbo jet, just to carry all the equipment and technicians to guarantee their shows are the best possible quality for the fans. They have sooo many great songs...
    I think Phantom of the Opera should be your next Maiden song, it has everything we love about them and is a perfect example of great lyrics, great music and the typical concert of theirs in a huge stadium, with people reacting to everything like crazy. I suggest whenever you'd listen to a Maiden song search the live version, that's just their prime always. This video has the lyrics too:
    th-cam.com/video/XE1la589yEc/w-d-xo.html
    Or the rime of the ancient mariner from flight 666 dvd (this has superb vocals and lots of interesting things)

    I Love Metal and Metal is in me. Back in the 80's, to be black and listen to METAL wasn't cool. I got soooooo many dirty looks and was disowned by my own peers, but I didn't care. The Metal Community embraced me and it allowed me to understand what "Real Music" was (along with R&B, Classic Rock, Jazz and Classical). Decades later, this music STILL sounds amazing.
    I really didn't start listening to Maiden until the "Live After Death" album came out and to date, it's still considered to be the best LIVE album in the 80's.
    However, My favorite album was the follow-up "Somewhere In Time", which had a few hits, but "Wasted Years" was the one that caught everyone's attention. Keep on "Rocking" PinkMetalHead!

    Hey! this is the first channel i subscribed to!! Wooohoo! I'm an old school metalhead raised on ac/dc,maiden,preist,dio and i love all kinds of music now,but rock and metal are something special,its like a melting pot of every musical style and it covers every emotion and heartbreak a person feels throughout their life.The older bands have something that you cant find in music these days.The heart and soul and sweat and tears, and the music is just "real".Not many new bands these days catch my attention.As for Maiden this is my all time favorite song from them!

    Hell yeah Iron Maiden! Those vocals give me chills every time!

  • @estoy1001
    @estoy1001 6 ปีที่แล้ว +21

    Consider the vocals that metal gives are pretty much untreated (no autotune) apart from a bit of reverb and some delay. They shine in concert, and pop, because it's mass produced and impersonal, can't hold a candle to it. That's why metal has always been underrated, because it's all there, right in front of you, no screens, no effects, just raw power coming at you, like it or not. If you can't handle it, you listen to pop or country. Both are just as soullessly mass produced and a dime a dozen. One Iron Maiden is worth a thousand of the mindless bands that record companies create on a daily basis to grab some more cash.

    Musicianship and vocal ability was at a greater level back during the late 60s up until the early 90s. I was a teen back in the early 80s when most of this music was released, and a vast majority of todays music pales in comparison. Just look at subject matter of many earlier metal songs. Who writes deep subject matter anymore?

    • @leebrennan5790
      @leebrennan5790 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gojira have deep subject matter. A genius band, not held down to one particular style of metal. Check songs like 'The Gift of Guilt', 'The Art of Dying', 'Born in Winter', and many others. So incredible live, that it's better than the album versions. Probably the best band for me, since the 90's, along with Mastodon and a handful of others at best. Nothing beats the classics of course.

    PMH, I seen Iron Maiden in concert. They are excellent live! Bruce Dickinson, besides the vocalist for Iron Maiden, is also a registered & licensed commercial airline pilot too. He flies band, crew, and equipment in a custom Boeing 757 named "EDD FORCE ONE" after their mascot, "Eddie" on Iron Maiden's major tours globally. They are currently finishing up last leg of "Book of Souls" tour that started back in Feb. 2016 in Ft Lauderdale, Florida.

    I've always liked Iron Maiden. Well respected group, one of the pioneers of metal. Especially their earlier albums from the late 1970s and early 1980s. They were like a heavier version of Thin Lizzy. Thin Lizzy was a hard rock group from Ireland. Lead by a half black/half Irish singer/bassist too Phil Lynott. Great group, RIP Phil! Iron Maiden is from England. They mixed punk rock, metal, Irish/British folklore music , classical music style/structure, great twin guitar solos, great story telling songs, etc. Just like Thin Lizzy!
    Phil and Bruce both have great vocals! Phil of Thin Lizzy had more of a soulful voice, Bruce of Iron Maiden had crazy range very opera like. One of the best. Iron Maiden was influenced by Thin Lizzy in a way, too. Both singers were/are very intelligent as well and well spoken.
    Iron Maiden is one of the best groups to listen to this time of year, Halloween lol. Perfect choice. :)
    You need to check out Thin Lizzy whenever you have the time.

      Thin Lizzy is one of those bands who seem to be revered, but at the same time still don't get the recognition they deserve for it. Phil Lynott left quite a kickass musical legacy.

      raistlin 1972~ see now that's the problem with people and opinion's about music . . . how do you know for a fact they are better? and would you actually get into an argument with someone about which one is best? it's not like it's a race and the fastest song is the best !! what are you judging 'best' on? length? number of notes? number of chord changes? time changes? the audience reaction? the solo's? how long the intro is? which note's the singer hit's? or how it makes you feel? surely you mean there are many many others that you prefer not that are better !! . . lol . . wasted years is probably my 3rd favourite maiden song so for ME is the 3rd best! for YOU it may be the 10th best !! neither of us is wrong and both of us are right . . . so . . . yeeaahh ; ) thanks for getting this far in my rant fuelled scrawl fellow maiden fan !! . . . live long and prosper (said the heretic to the bishop)

    Bruce Dickinson is generally hailed as one of the greatest vocalists of all time. He's been praised as an influence by everyone from James from Metallica to Lady GaGa to Lil Wayne. He just turned 59 and sounds better than he ever has. He's a freak of nature. I'd love to see you react to either This Godless Endeavor or Sentient 6 by Nevermore next. Both are true masterpieces!

    So many great songs and performances by this band that I have adored since I first heard somewhere in time in 86. Stranger in a strange land- I would pretend in front of a mirror on a toy guitar playing the lead solo. I was 13. What a great day it was when I actually learned it on real guitar several years later. This band literally taught me how to play. That whole album is so epic to me.

    Unfortunately Metal and Heavy Rock have been off the radar (for the most part) since somewhere around the 90's. Maybe late 90's/early 00's. The world saw a massive influx of hip-hop, rap, RnB, pop, boy bands, etc around this 10 or so years. And after that we got JBiebs, Ed Sheeran, Katy Perry, etc. And so much of what we listen to now is some kind of techno/disco/dance/club music. Technology has advanced and now anyone can easily make tunes without even knowing how to play an instrument.
    If you look at those genres/groups, they are very much vocalists with drum machines, auto tunes, or the same studio musicians backing all these different artists/writing the lyrics with extreeeemely simple tracks that consist of pops, whizzes and other strange sounds made by a computer program.
    The sad thing is that it's completely the wrong way round. Iron Maiden, Metallica, Judas Priest, etc (the list is endless) have sweat and bled for years over mastering their music. These bands write poetry. They put 100% into every show every night without autotune. The whole band has to perform at 100%. They don't wuss out and lip sync/instrument sync.
    Their lyrics form an array of images in your mind of the story that's portrayed in the song. Whenever I hear Hallowed Be Thy Name (it's my favourite song of all time btw) I picture everything. It paints such a clear set of images in my mind that I wish I could put to canvas. This song is absolute poetry. And now we kinda have to hold on tightly to these bands because we just don't see creativity like this much anymore, and definitely not in the mainstream. Nowadays Gen Y seems to just think metal/rock is just angry people yelling into their instruments. But as soon as you show them the lyrics and the melody, they realise it's something so much more.

    I 100% agree when it comes to some of these lead singers not getting recognized as some of the best singers in music. I have thought that same exact thing. It's mostly popular and successful Pop or R&B (and maybe Country)singers that get that label of being some of the best singers. I mean you name it... Whitney Houston with her I Will Always Love You cover, Beyoncé, Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey, You know just all these acts that are often considered the most iconic. And this isn't a knock against them because I'm a big fan of some of these singers who continuously get praise for their vocal abilities. It's just that a lot of these older Metal singers can sing just as well as some of those other singers who get recognized a lot. Some can even sing better. And this song is a perfect example of Metal lead singers with amazing voices. Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Queensryche, Soundgarden - A lot of them have, just as I said, just as good, if not better singing voices. I think they probably get overlooked just because their Metal. Some of those people wouldn't even give Metal singers the time of day. Probably wouldn't even cross their mind. That's a shame because a lot band lead singers are some of the best to ever do it.

Bruce Dickinson says "It doesn't matter if you're Male, Female, Muslim, Christian, Catholic, Jewish, it doesn't matter.
