These guys kick ass no matter what race they are, but I remember when this song came out there was no black bands on the hard Rock scene. They certainly represented with athority.
Ok....I'm a 50 yr. old white guy. I remember when this song was first released. My first reaction back in the day was "WTF? They're BLACK!" I say with as much conviction now as I did then, "If the music is good, who cares about race?" Thank you, my virtual daughter , for your video.
Land Pirate, I couldnt agree more, love this band, Vivid is still one of my favourite albums, I also still like 24-7 Spyz, check them out if you havent already, Harder Than You is a great album
I agree, however with these guys being black was part of their selling point. They were one of the first "manufactured" bands ever. Their name is living colour, and they put together an all black band as a gimmick. It's like an all girl band or an all Asian band. That's the part that most people don't like about it. I'm 48
Listen to their recent album, Shade. There are good songs like Freedom of Expression (F.O.X.), Blak Out, Program, and their tribute to Biggie, Who Shot Ya.
I was much younger the first time I heard this song, and it's social commentary didn't quite register. Now that some time has passed and I'm hearing it again, this song is fucking amazing. Absolute 10 for me. Also, this song might sound like it has a simple formula, but if you try playing the guitar parts, you'll realize there's nothing simple about this song at all!
When this song first aired on MTV I was floored. I bought the album right away and it was EVERYTHING! Such an underrated band. The line "when a leader speaks, that leader dies" gives me a lump in my throat every time. Peacemakers are always silenced. :(
Living Colour was and still is a groundbreaking band! There weren’t too many African American Hard Rock/Metal band’s back in 1988, and they definitely set the bar high and paved the way for others to follow. Do yourself a favor and try to catch them live. They are still making records and doing shows!
PinkMetalHead I’ve seen them 3 times!! Once with The Rolling Stones back in 1989, once in 2000 when they reunited (they broke up for a time), and on their ‘Vivid’ 25th anniversary tour 2013!
man, that guitar solo! freakin' face melting badassery!!!! anyone out here a fan of the great fusion drummer Tony Williams? he has a track that sounds so much like the main riff on this song...mind you, tony was doin' it back in the 70s! goo music transcends race and time. To quote our pink goddess, "epic"!
What a classic! Great choice! Mind boggling that anyone would take offense at Hendrix. Great music is about the human experience and condition. It thus transcends culture, country, politics, religion, skin color etc. At least that's the way I've always viewed it. Leaves much more room to appreciate everything out there without preconceived biases. Good job with the variety on the channel! Keep it up! 👍✌
Yes Vernon Reid is one hell of a guitarist and this is one hell of a song! The lead singer Corey Glover as also an actor and I know he was in the 1986 movie Platoon and you are right about black history moth Bing the shortest month of the year and also February is also the coldest month of the year
Another iconic black rock singer song is the song Are You Gonna Go My Way from Lenny Kravitz. That has tons of groove too !! Lenny was born with groove at birth !!
I remember when this came out.... it's still pretty good. Glad you brought it back to my ears. As for your little speech before the video, you're dead on. It's their problem not yours! Stay awesome
Great video but understated score. 9.5 from the Polish judge. Living Colour was one of the only bands that broke the color barrier. They had a message that was delivered in a format the most people understand that frankly do not understand rap or hip-hop music. Their lyrics were also spot on and i think people of all races got the message. As far as how the song progresses, i understand your comments, however, Vernon Ried lays down an amazing solo which builds upon anger and angst and has a little of that yup, we can kick ass. Great song and great album. I hope and pray that their music made a difference.
Vernon Reid is a god on guitar! He can make the instrument do things most people didn't even know was possible. And Corey Glover's voice turns metal into gospel. Living Colour is pure genius. You should definitely check out more stuff from them. I think their first two albums are the best but everything's got something cool on it. Also, if you like groove in your rock/metal, you should listen to "Middle Man" from this same album and "Type" from the 2nd album, Time's Up.
Oh, hell yeah. No one seems to remember Body Count. Let alone the whole mess of recalling the album and rereleasing it without Cop Killer. And now he's a detective on Law and Order SVU :D
The cool thing about Living Colour is, their guitarist, Vernon Reid, is not only on Twitter, but is very approachable, and willing to interact with fans. He and I actually discussed some of the odd rime signatures in this song, as well as the arpeggiated chords in the chorus. Turns out that Vernon is a bit of a Rush fan. He's also one hell of a cool guy. I personally love this song. I love the political imagery, and how, on the whole, it's as relevant as ever.
It is funny how 98% of people can love us, and we worry about the 2% that don't. Keep doing your thing and focus on the positive. Focusing on the negative only brings more negative. That smile of yours will get you far, don't let the haters take it from you.
PinkMetalHead Absolutely! And you should check out some of the metal that's taking root in Africa presently. Wrust is one coming out of Botswana (they started in 2000) that lays down some serious music!
Elias Kinnunen it is a celebration of humanity. What are humans, if not individuals? We're all unique and a little different (or a lot in some cases). We all identify with cultures as part of our individual identities. I'm a geek and a metal head with Irish and Scottish heritage. All of those have innumerable celebrations in their honor, yet we don't bat any eyelash at them. Now, take a people, who less than 200 years ago, in this very country, were bought, traded, and sold like livestock. They were taken from their homes by force, shipped across the ocean, and turned into servants and farming equipment (along with other, much worse things). In that transition, much of their history was lost as families were separated and communal history lost. The end of slavery didn't stop it though. It took until the civil rights movement of the 1960's before a black person could vote, or use the same drinking fountain. Their history was stifled as well as their rights. How many famous black people can you name before Dr King? Yet the foundation of the music you love, and similarly, the foundation of this nation, were built by the hands of a great many nameless black people. Conventional history, though, wouldn't have us believe that. If you really want to celebrate humanity, you MUST celebrate the individual. Without differences, we'd be robots without a humanity to celebrate. So, celebrating humanity means celebrating our differences. Why would anyone resist that?
Elias Kinnunen You're kidding right? First, it's not that long, and second, it's not my social commentary, it's my answer to a question you asked me. I'm not going to pare it down to make it more palatable to you. If you don't want the answer, please, don't ask the question.
Thank You for taking time to validate songs that we have lived our lives too. These songs have deep meanings for alot of either dealing with Loss, suffering, prejudices, affliction, rejection and so on. So when You provide that Beautiful Smile and them Bright eyes to these songs..... Well it's just a wonderful thing!!
"Memories cant wait" and "Open Letter to a landlord" and "Desperate People". "Vivid" CD was a masterpiece "Love Rears it's ugly head" and "Undercover of Darkness" and "Someone like You" from the "Time's Up" CD
It makes me so sad (and angry) that a black woman has to explain why she is honoring black artists during Black History Month. It's sad (and infuriating) that in 2018 ignorance and racism is still rampant. You handled it with so much grace, Mona. Thank you for that.
Like you said in your video, it's about them, not you. They are projecting their own insecurities and/or self-hatred onto others. They look for someone to blame when they can't manage their own neurosis. The saying , "When you point your finger at someone else, there are three fingers pointing back at you," highlights this perfectly. You have a very mature attitude about it all and, again, I commend you for your poise and grace. Like First Lady Obama always says, "When they go low, you go high." And my hero Gandhi said, "An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind." Words to live by! Keep doing your thing, sista! You're awesome!
I try to believe that one of the hardest things for us humans to do is to put ourselves in someone else's shoes--and really, truly understand what they go through, and that that's where the difference starts. It gets a lot darker than that when it festers and spreads, but...I don't know.
I disagree. Blacks can be *angry and resentful* of whites (and rightfully so) due to the oppression that they and their immediate families have endured, and the racism that they continue to endure, but that should not be considered racism. If one needs to spell out examples of the current rampant racism in America, you won't accept that reality anyway, so I choose not to spend my time doing so.
I don't expect you to accept anything. I just choose not to have a conversation with you, and your comments and name-calling solidify that. Have a good day.
I saw these guys live in 1990 at the Richfield coliseum when they opened for Tom Petty. They were really awesome and I will never forget that show. I never understood the weird clothing but whatever . The music was great.
PinkMetalHead Isn’t that the point? My point is everyone is focused on black and white issues. Black slavery, white supremacy, black lives matter, etc! I’m sorry that y’all had to go through all that, But Natives also need attention with their struggles. Jews were slaves for 400 years! Yet they made a annual event on that. I feel for you blacks and Jews, but why are Native issues ignored or swept under the rug in media? Here in Canada, we have our own black lives matter version called Idle no more. We’re tired of our voices falling on deaf ears. I’m just trying to say we need our voices heard and properly addressed as well. We’re tired of political correctness. I’ve no problem with any race, I’m just trying to say there’s grey matters out there too. Not just black or white Btw, you are a Beautiful Black Woman who I enjoy watching your reaction vids. I look forward to seeing more vids.😊👍🏽
Oh man...this was an anthem when I was growing up. They were f*ing AWESOME! I remember having the cassette tape and wearing that thing out. I can't remember the names but they had a couple other great songs but then just kinda disappeared.
Waaay back in the day, before my family had cable, and therefore no MTV, I caught these guys on NBCs " Friday Night Videos". It blew my mind then, and the guitar solo still blows my mind.....
Saw this same video on MTV as a teenager and became a HUGE Living Colour fan - have all their albums. Vernon Reid is doing amazing stuff even in the background - really freaking smart inventive stuff. He's a really intelligent musician that makes it sound unhinged and wild. Such an underrated band. I love your reaction videos - they make me remember the first time I heard all this great music.
Welcome to the world of Living Colour! I had the same reaction to these guys way back in '89. They blew my mind, and are easily the best band to emerge on the scene in the last 30 years. All are incredibly talented musicians, and the best thing about them is that they don't fit neatly into the rock mold. They each play and have had schooling in jazz. For an added bonus, the singer (Corey Glover) is a professional actor. He had a small speaking part in "Platoon" with Charlie Sheen, Tom Berenger and Willem Dafoe.
These guys could rock! They were kind of like a predecessor to Rage Against The Machine. They rocked hard and their songs had important messages. I think you might really like Jimi Hendrix' song, "Drifting". It's a gorgeous song.
One of my all-time favorite bands! And this particular song is simply INCREDIBLE. All of the members of Living Colour are amazingly skilled musicians, including their current bassist, Doug Wimbish :^). My FAVORITE LC album is 1993's "Stain". If you haven't already, I might check out "Leave it Alone," or "Nothingness" (a sweet and beautiful song which I believe was written by the drummer Will Calhoun, in dedication to his father who passed away), both from that album. Thanks so much for the exploration. I enjoy your work. Much Love.
You want some more of their groove?? Check out their song Ignorance is Bliss they perform it on The David Letterman show in 1993. Best version of that wonderful song
I always liked "This is the Life" as an under rated song once you got past the lengthy intro. They had a lot of great tunes though, so picking one is tough....
Another great one by you pretty girl. I saw this band open for the stones in Dallas in 92 or around there. Holy hell they blew the place up. The stones ofcourse came out and topped them. But that was a concert to experience. They were totaly underrated at the time. My neighborhood by them. Give it a listen. Keep on girl..
Exactly - Whenever I hear this now all I can think of his entrance at Wrestlemania 29 just like you was alive when it came out so I also know who Living Colour is -If you watch UFC and have seen his 2 UFC fights his entrance song has been what? Shows how much CM Punk loves this song kinda like Bad Reputation w/Ronda Rousey which song did she play as here entrance song during her time in the UFC? Bad Reputation now what does she use in the WWE? Bad Reputation?
Was hunting for my Sevendust family and I'm never disappointed. Yes, do Black, one of their firsts and greatest tunes. Then put on that new album and realize they are still crushing it.
Great review! This is one of my favorite jams as a kid and still is today. They were a well put together band. His singing was fire and that guitar solo was just sick.
This was my favorite band growing up. In my early 20s, I was on the subway in NYC and ran into Vernon Reid. It was monumental to meet your guitar hero in person. A few years later, saw Living Colour play CBGB's just before it closed. It was awesome.
I was once in a band called "The CNN Project" with two black members with me being the only white guy. We were together for a few years in the early 2010's in Birmingham Alabama. We were basically an old school metal band and we faced a lot of adversary. It's like people were surprised black guys could play rock or metal. I celebrate any ethnicity that has the heart and convictions to play what they're not supposed to by society. It's a shame nothing became of that band cause we fucking grooved and were heavy as fuck. I've still got all of our rehearsals on my 8-track recorder.
LOVE this band, and this song. Corey Glover is an INCREDIBLE vocalist, and Vernon Reid is an INCREDIBLE guitar player. Plus, the lyrics are quite relevant today!
Black history month, where the hell is some Fishbone!!! Anyway, saw Living Color this past summer and they were incredible!! The bass player Doug Wimbish (not the guy in this video, Doug joined in 1992) is O-Mazing!!! In this song, the "neon light, nobel prize" section is the coolest guitar part ever. That chord progression is awesome (and difficult to play). There is a song on this album called "Open letter to a landlord", best song on the album.
I loved this album. Came out while I was in the Army. That tight rhythm section, Corey Glover's voice, Vernon Reid's killer riffs, and the song writing. These guys are the total package.
Wow... that takes me back when I was a young man haha. Great song. PMH you should check out a great band from the late 80's, Kings X. BTW, good for you celebrating BHM.
Also, do a little research on an old punk band called "Death." Watch the TH-cam documentary. All black band, and cut one of the earliest punk records, only to forget it in an attic for years. It hasn't even been rediscovered for that long...
I hate it when people say "If it wasn't for this band this band, or this genre wouldn't exist" But I'm going to be hypocritical and say that there would be no Living Colour without the Bad Brains. Both Corey and Vernon were huge fans and deeply influenced by the Bad Brains. I have mixed feelings on Living Colour though. I love their more rock songs, but their more R&B type stuff I can't quite get into. My favorite living Colour songs are "Pride", "Leave it Alone", "Type", "Time's Up", "Nothingness", and "Minute Man". Those are great tracks that get overlooked by the popularity of Cult of Personality.
I think Hitler would have liked Nazi Black Metal. And if Dinosaurs had lived on than this wouldn't even be a conversation because you probably even exist to ask the question.
Nolan Void I agree that song is awesome but it is similar to a lot stuff she has probably heard. I feel like “Sunless Saturday” is just a little more left field.
PMH, love your videos. I have to say though... I'm surprised you haven't reviewed anything by King's X. Especially considering the Black history month theme. King's X was one of the truly great bands from the 80s and there are several great songs in their repetoir to react. IMHO Dug Pinnick is a very underrated rock vocalist.
Just found your Channel while watching Lost in Vegas Channel. Nice work! I appreciate your explanation concerning Black History Month. Sometimes it can be confusing when we talk about everyone being treated equally yet wanting to celebrate our differences. Two ideas that can coexist together, but our human Minds usually screw it up. I think a lot of people are realizing that too much assimilation led us to actually losing a lot of our cultural differences. That and the fact that people began moving all over the country instead of living in one region, which allowed for cultural differences that we don't quite see today. Love this song! These guys seemed to be one of the few black bands playing heavier metal back in the 80s and early nineties. Sound on the song is simple but way heavy! Also love Glover's voice. Grew up as a little white metal head, hahaha, but I always loved Motown, gospel, Blues and the soul of black music in general. I was glad to see someone other than white people playing the music I like and actually bringing a good voice to the equation. Keep up the good work and I'll keep checking you out. Pretty girl and I love your hair in this video
One of my all time favorite bands. This video made me smile so big. I remember the first time I saw this. Made the hair on my arms stand up. This band is even more amazing live! If you get a chance check them out.
Excellent choice pretty girl. I STILL jam this, just like I did in the 80's when it came out. And as far as people getting upset over Black History month (I celebrate it all year ;)) WE NEED TO REMEMBER OUR HISTORY. (it's serious with me, can ya tell?? lol )... I love it when I hear "But we don't get White History month!". Point flies right over heads. SMH You keep doin' your thing lady.....you are the best. :)
Dude.....your reaction is pretty defensive and looks angry. It seems nothing brings that out more than anything pertaining to black. I am white. I can't say exactly how it feels to be black. However, I have been blessed with black family. I also have a black autistic step-son, whom I took with me when I left his father. I see now, where I didn't long ago. Ask yourself this, why does it bother you so? I had to ask those questions of myself as well. We all do. :)
You should do your research before you speak because the black historian who created "Negro history week" made it a WEEK. It was the government who made it a national celebration and extended it to a month. So you can get off my page with that mess. And how is celebrating the achievements of people from a collective group racist? I hate how people throw "racist" around so loosely. You need to know what REAL racism looks like. And that shows me that you have so much privilege that you think "BHM" is racist lol. I wish that I believed that's what racism looked like..so much more pleasant.
In the spirit of black history month, might I suggest the following metal bands for your perusal (in no particular order): Suicidal Tendencies, Body Count, Sevendust, Suffocation, God Forbid, Candiria, Killswitch Engage, Animals As Leaders, Kings X, Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza (yes this is a real band's name!).
I just started watching your channel. Thanks for you excellent videos. ...You celebrate any holiday you wish. I got your back! I would like to see you react to some of my favorite bands: The Faces, The Meters, The Killer Bees, and The Cars. Thanks for all your efforts. Love from Austin Texas.
Vivid in general was an incredible debut album. C.o.P. and Open letter to a Landlord clearly headline, but others like Desperate People and Middle Man follow up as great tunes as well. Vernon's guitar riffs and Corey's vocals are a hell of a combo. Shame they didn't put out a lot more material and had a mini break-up so early
Saw them live at the very first Lollapalooza concert in Phoenix, AZ on July 18, 1991. Great band, awesome live, and they received lots of airplay on the local AM alternative station during that time. Trivia: singer Corey Glover was in a U.S. Army TV commercial in 1984 :)
glen alexander Fishbone is incredible. Their early stuff was groundbreaking and they kept evolving. The Fishbone EP is dynamite. In Your Face is a 4-star album. Truth and Soul -- what can I say? Amazing songwriting and so funky. Reality of My Surroundings -- heavy and political. Give a Monkey -- metal as hell!
I remember hearing Living Colour for the first time on cassette single (A side). INSTANTLY blew my mind with the opening riff and the drum intro! Then into that insane guitar tone and the smoothest vocals I had ever heard! EPIC, CLASSIC, and STILL RELEVANT.
This band took over my life in the late 80's. Vivid and Time's Up were incredible albums. What really blew me away after Vivid was released was when I heard them live. THEY GO OFF! This track is incredibly reserved for what they do with it live, esp Wil Calhoun, the drummer. Great band, great video.
These guys kick ass no matter what race they are, but I remember when this song came out there was no black bands on the hard Rock scene. They certainly represented with athority.
Kenneth Hildebrand they walked all over authority brother, loved this song when it came out. They still f'n rock
there was fishbone and 24/7 spyz
There was FISHBONE, 24-7 Spyz, Mother’s Finest, and Bad Brains our at this time!
Yes, I would love to see more black groups like this. Sorry for the stereotypes but in this case its a compliment. Blacks need to make more rock!
Damn straight.
That's song is a 10 all day. They still jamming! I love your voice you're beautiful. Keep up the good work.
Living Colour was/is an excellent band. One of those bands that never got the recognition they should have.
Ahead of their time
Steve Maxwell Yezzir Live they will burn anybody
Steve Maxwell I'm glad the ex wwe wrestler cm punk had this theme.
True!
You ain't lyin!!
Ok....I'm a 50 yr. old white guy. I remember when this song was first released. My first reaction back in the day was "WTF? They're BLACK!" I say with as much conviction now as I did then, "If the music is good, who cares about race?" Thank you, my virtual daughter , for your video.

Just thought of another great black band Bad Brains, check out The Quickness, pure class, thrash, punk, metal and reggae, cant ask for more than that!
I agree, however with these guys being black was part of their selling point. They were one of the first "manufactured" bands ever. Their name is living colour, and they put together an all black band as a gimmick. It's like an all girl band or an all Asian band. That's the part that most people don't like about it.
I'm 48
I was the exact same way! I couldn't believe what I was seeing - and hearing. This was an awesome song, that I still love today.
PREEEEEEEEEEEACH!!!!!!
Living Colour is terribly underrated. Very good band.
Their sound before Muzz left was amazing. They still have some decent tunes without him, but just never recaught the same vibe
And they easily smoked the band of drug addicts - Guns 'n Roses.
Still one of my all time favorites. Love their new stuff.
Steve Rickenbacher
Have you seen the video of living colour touring with g'n'r supporting the stones? Yeesh... tense times.
Listen to their recent album, Shade. There are good songs like Freedom of Expression (F.O.X.), Blak Out, Program, and their tribute to Biggie, Who Shot Ya.

As white kid in the South, I really liked this band, and to hell with anyone's opinion.
psylinx. Phenomenal band for sure. Vernon Reid is one of the best ever. Great band.
o7
Ditto
You are awesome, if only for not being a racist. Rock on brotherman!!!
I'm white and all my cowboy style friends and I were into this band.
10 for me. I could listen to this music all day long then having Corey Glover as your vocalist is like icing on the cake.
When this song first aired on MTV I was floored. I bought the album right away and it was EVERYTHING! Such an underrated band. The line "when a leader speaks, that leader dies" gives me a lump in my throat every time. Peacemakers are always silenced. :(
Watching your face during this song was a thing of beauty. Always loved this song.

Hello, can you react to Rock The Casbah by the Clash if you haven't before.
Agreed. LC is a stand out band for many reasons.
man, that guitar solo! freakin' face melting badassery!!!! anyone out here a fan of the great fusion drummer Tony Williams? he has a track that sounds so much like the main riff on this song...mind you, tony was doin' it back in the 70s! goo music transcends race and time. Good job with the variety on the channel! Keep it up! 👍✌
Paul Alvarado Are you really surprised? People have always been easily offended and in these foul days, folk are even more sensitive than ever.
Music is more important than anyone's religious beliefs or politics...every country needs an anthem and God needs a choir.
Yes Vernon Reid is one hell of a guitarist and this is one hell of a song! The lead singer Corey Glover as also an actor and I know he was in the 1986 movie Platoon and you are right about black history moth Bing the shortest month of the year and also February is also the coldest month of the year

I always enjoyed this band.
Don’t stop just because February is over, check out some Bad Brains, and Anthrax with Public Enemy - Bring The Noise.
I definitely won't stop :) Thanks, I'll check out all of those bands!
YES! Bad Brains is my favorite band of all time.
Yea, fucking "Bad Brains," fucking rule!!! And there back around to! Fuck, H.R. was crazy!!!!! Saaaiiiliiinngg Ooooonnnnnn!!!!
"Body Count." :)
"Body Count." :)
I just gotta say that you are GORGEOUS. Your smile lights up the whole room and you're just so positive and poised.

Damon Brown glover teaches vocals btw
Don’t worry, you have overwhelming support, I love this, and Hendrix, and I appreciate you checking them out! Keep them on you playlist!
Have you heard of Body Count? Its Ice T's metal band and they are pretty good.
WVMADMAN1
There Goes The Neighborhood!
Oh, hell yeah. No one seems to remember Body Count. Let alone the whole mess of recalling the album and rereleasing it without Cop Killer.
And now he's a detective on Law and Order SVU :D
Body Count is back! They have a new album out and do tours
I remember my fucked up stepdad would listen to body count lmfao
I hear it every nite another gun fight.. tha tension mounts...On w tha Body Count!!!
Hey pretty lady! Glad to see you discovered Living Colour. Been a huge fan since they came on scene back in the day.
What a great way to end the month. Well done! Celebrate it, and we'll be here celebrating with you.
Thanks Brian
PinkMetalHead Absolutely! And you should check out some of the metal that's taking root in Africa presently. Wrust is one coming out of Botswana (they started in 2000) that lays down some serious music!

Brian Madigan Your "mammoth of a paragraph" was beautifully written, and I'm actually going to take a picture of this, and save it. Thank you
Thank You for taking time to validate songs that we have lived our lives too. These songs have deep meanings for alot of either dealing with Loss, suffering, prejudices, affliction, rejection and so on. So when You provide that Beautiful Smile and them Bright eyes to these songs..... Well it's just a wonderful thing!!
Corey is also an actor. Among other roles he played Francis in Platoon.
Flickerman68 I think he's Danny Glover's son as well..I may be wrong
Quent TheGent Understandable but just the same last name.
“We gonna get high, high, yes sir!”
Love that scene
You have such a calm presence. I enjoy listening to your vids when I have a lot on my mind.
I played in a band in college and we covered Living Colour and Chili Pepper stuff, loved drumming to this song.
That's awesome!
sounds like my school band!
Peter Scartabello . Great. You must be a fucking moron! BUCKETHEAD Rules!
Kendra Ford haha yes I’m a fucking moron and I agree Buckethead does rule!
Man those are bands that are hard to cover well.
"Memories cant wait" and "Open Letter to a landlord" and "Desperate People".
"Vivid" CD was a masterpiece
"Love Rears it's ugly head" and "Undercover of Darkness" and "Someone like You" from the "Time's Up" CD
It makes me so sad (and angry) that a black woman has to explain why she is honoring black artists during Black History Month. It's sad (and infuriating) that in 2018 ignorance and racism is still rampant. You handled it with so much grace, Mona. Thank you for that.
Thanks for understanding girl!! Don't know why some people are so upset about it. Thank u
Black history is American history.
Yes,
let’s concentrate on black and white!
Forget the real Americans! Natives who are and still pushed aside.
Snow Ice What do Native Americans have to do Black history month?
PinkMetalHead
Isn’t that the point?
My point is everyone is focused on black and white issues.
Black slavery, white supremacy, black lives matter, etc!
I’m sorry that y’all had to go through all that,
But Natives also need attention with their struggles.
Not just black or white
Btw, you are a Beautiful Black Woman who I enjoy watching your reaction vids.
I look forward to seeing more vids.😊👍🏽
Oh man...this was an anthem when I was growing up. They were f*ing AWESOME! I remember having the cassette tape and wearing that thing out. I can't remember the names but they had a couple other great songs but then just kinda disappeared.
Waits for her reaction to the blistering solo!
Vernon Reid is a beast....this whole disc is great......
Yup, waiting for that too. I bet it will be emotional!
Waaay back in the day, before my family had cable, and therefore no MTV, I caught these guys on NBCs " Friday Night Videos". It blew my mind then, and the guitar solo still blows my mind.....
Shreadville to say the least ....oink 😀
Jason K Hell Yeah!
Pink!! Have you heard the Ice-T metal band Body Count? They cover Raining Blood (Ice-T singing!) and Postmortem, you should check it out!
Yes I've heard of them! :) I'll react to them on my channel.
This was the intro theme for a former WWE wrestler by the name of C.M. PUNK. I loved that wrestler and this song.
Great song, it's a classic.
I love this group. As a drummer I have always felt their drummer was highly underrated. He plays a tight set.
CM PUNK! CM PUNK!
It will be the greatest return period, PERIOD!
@Jovanni Ruiz Jesus dude
@Jovanni Ruiz *hug
Ayyyyyyy, you know what's up
@Jovanni Ruiz calm your ass
Cult of personality has been my ringtone for years. :) Classic tune.
Way ahead of their time
One of my all-time favorite bands!
Everything off of Stain is brilliant.
That was the best rock performance ever!
Living Colour has a great catalog check out their songs "open letter to the landlord" "Elvis is dead" just their first 2 albums are great
Stain is also great.
This song deserves another video, with you completely getting into it, air guitar, air drum, swinging hair and air singing.
CM Punk....
(and yes I was alive when the song came out so I know who LC is)
Exactly - Whenever I hear this now all I can think of his entrance at Wrestlemania 29 just like you was alive when it came out so I also know who Living Colour is -If you watch UFC and have seen his 2 UFC fights his entrance song has been what? Shows how much CM Punk loves this song kinda like Bad Reputation w/Ronda Rousey which song did she play as here entrance song during her time in the UFC? Bad Reputation now what does she use in the WWE? Bad Reputation?
CM has introduced new fans to LC (or this song). Kudos to him
Pink, you got the best volume on TH-cam, other's can't compare! Keep doing you there will always be haters! Keep it up, always a fan!
Awesome. Do Sevendust - Black next!
Was hunting for my Sevendust family and I'm never disappointed. Yes, do Black, one of their firsts and greatest tunes. Then put on that new album and realize they are still crushing it.
yesss
Jason Hatherlee denial maybe too
Great review! This is one of my favorite jams as a kid and still is today. They were a well put together band. His singing was fire and that guitar solo was just sick.
Representation is important for everyone, regardless of race, it sucks that people are hating on you for your skin color
So true and it sucks that hate on you and judge you for what your sexuality is too
This was my favorite band growing up.
That's so awesome!
Just wished we would've stuck it out. Me, Kevin and Gene, those two were cousins, didn't sound like any band I was aware of. Oh, the memories. 😀
There is a song on this album called "Open letter to a landlord", best song on the album.
fishbone soldier since '88 right here
Please do Bad Brains - Soul Craft & Fishbone - Everyday Sunshine
I loved this album. Came out while I was in the Army. That tight rhythm section, Corey Glover's voice, Vernon Reid's killer riffs, and the song writing. These guys are the total package.
Awesome reaction.Very cool song.LOST IN VEGAS brought me here.I like this channel.New sub.
Please don’t ever stop celebrating who you are @pinkmetalhead you’re awesome. I love your reactions.
React to some BAD BRAINS they were one of the first all black bands playing hardcore punk and reggae!
Garry Dean your gotta watch a live version, that singer is crazy
How about some Body Count?
MyNameIsBucket Waaaay before body count
If you listen to Living Colour's "Live at CBGB" album, they actually do a cover of Bad Brain's "Sailin' On."
PinkMetalHead I just want to tell u that I love watching your reactions. And also you are absolutely gorgeous!!!!
Wow... that takes me back when I was a young man haha. Great song. PMH you should check out a great band from the late 80's, Kings X. BTW, good for you celebrating BHM.
I love Kings X album Dogman
That album is a complete ass-stomping 10 out of 10. Dogman should have been gigantic for King's X.
Love love love King's X!
Never seen a reaction vid to this song before. I've always loved this one! Great choice
That song is a modern classic. You should probably check out the band SKINDRED.
MediaFaust Great call, seen Skindred a few times and they've always impressed the hell outta me.
"Shot In The Dark" is probably a good song choice.
ACtually I meant to say "Under Attack" ... so please disregard that last one. Confusion, innit.
Can I just say that I love love LOVE the idea that your intro song is Devin Townsend's "Kingdom"? I know Devie would hug you for that one!
Also, do a little research on an old punk band called "Death." Watch the TH-cam documentary. All black band, and cut one of the earliest punk records, only to forget it in an attic for years. It hasn't even been rediscovered for that long...
Death, as in Chuck Schulinder-Death? or the all black band Black Death?
William Montes before chuck schuldiner death, there was a punk rock band named death consists of three black dudes
QuantumSamurai66 That was a great little documentary. Seen it a couple of times on Australian TV.
QuantumSamurai66 Yes! Detroit Death! 👍🏻
QuantumSamurai66 Bad Brains
Open Letter to a Landlord is also a classic from the 'Vivid' album. The 'Stain' album, in it's entirety, is freaking killer!
Time's Up was an overlooked gem, with Everything Is Possible and Love Rears Its Ugly Head.
:-)
Keep doing what you do pink. Keep rocking. You're a beautiful person inside and out .
Since you liked this, check the song “Sunless Saturday” by Fishbone. Turn up the volume
The_Jeepers_Turtle Would prefer to see her react to Servitude by Fishbone.
Nolan Void I agree that song is awesome but it is similar to a lot stuff she has probably heard. I feel like “Sunless Saturday” is just a little more left field.
The_Jeepers_Turtle I propose a double reaction (Sunless and Servitude.) Kinda cover all the bases.
Guitar shreddin' goodness. So much talent in this band.
React to kings x please. Over my head is a catchy tune. Love your channel by the way.
Please
she has a reacted to "Dogman". but I agree, "Over My Head" is recommended, or "Groove Machine".
I love your choices of music. love watching your reactions. Keep up the good work!
I'll definitely check them out :) Thanks Rich!
Kings X is a purely amazing band.
She did a reaction for Dogman by King's X.
King's X is my 2nd favorite band of all-time! Dug Pinnick is killin' it with his supergroup KXM these days.
KXM is amazing! "Breakout" is a phenomenal song that not many people have heard.
React to Lenny Kravitz-Are You Gonna Go My Way.
Fernando Lopez that’s a great song
Lol yes! You absolutely get it! Thanks for your comment..much love
What do native Americans and Jews have to do with black history month? You make no points. LOL
You were much more direct. lol I was being too diplomatic. SMH I tried....as always. Coddling the butt hurt.....haha
You are a beauty with a beautiful soul. Keep doing what your doing!!
In the spirit of black history month, might I suggest the following metal bands for your perusal (in no particular order):
Suicidal Tendencies, Body Count, Sevendust, Suffocation, God Forbid, Candiria, Killswitch Engage, Animals As Leaders, Kings X, Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza (yes this is a real band's name!).
Candiria are amazing.
Even during leap year, Black History Month is the shortest!
Yup.
Then celebrate it/keep it alive year round.
@@nickciraulo8340 Yeah, its stupid to segregate history based on skin color.
They were such an EPIC group of musicians!!!! So powerful, soulful and minimal. Perfect in every way!!! Thank you Pinkmetalhead!!!!!!
You'd also like open letter to a landlord by living colour, i think it's their best song.
I was thinking the same thing....great tune.....or Middle Man.
Vivid in general was an incredible debut album. C.o.P. and Open letter to a Landlord clearly headline, but others like Desperate People and Middle Man follow up as great tunes as well. Vernon's guitar riffs and Corey's vocals are a hell of a combo. Shame they didn't put out a lot more material and had a mini break-up so early
zak rowe dont forget solice of you another good song
lurch321 lol thanks dont know why i wrote me.lol i listen to that song alot
Sheng Long is back!!! No biggie! Great song (and video).
We need more Metal bands from Black Artists!!..
I agree :)
you nailed it with this one... I used to headbang so much to this song that my head still hurts to this day
You might listen to fish bone , sunless Saturday. It's goood😁
glen alexander my favorite song by FB is End The Reign
glen alexander Amazing song! Fish bone is/was a very underrated band.
glen alexander Fishbone is incredible.
They have another song in that album called letter to a landlord. Great groove and good message.
Love it. Love you. ✊🏻
Much love
Oh wow, thank you so much! I feel like I have a celebrity sub now! 😀😀😀
I remember hearing Living Colour for the first time on cassette single (A side). INSTANTLY blew my mind with the opening riff and the drum intro! Then into that insane guitar tone and the smoothest vocals I had ever heard! EPIC, CLASSIC, and STILL RELEVANT.
"No lives matter," or "Black hoodie." You won't regret it... Seriously, before the album is old...
QuantumSamurai66 no lives matter is my favourite
This was one of my all time favs. I loved your analysis and reaction. I really wish they made more like this one.
Classic ! 10 #cmpunk
Finally
