Man.i love your show I'm a fan and a student I'm continuing to learn more and more about watches and collecting them over 700 at this time.Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us.God bless.
I don't know much about watches, but I would never buy a Rolex on ebay. There are very good fakes out there and most people couldn't tell from a photo. Plus, if it's real, the price and the risk will be high.
It's a lot different in the UK. Their prices are at least 30% higher in the first place and you'd be doing good to get a 10% reduction. Most of them will give nothing. I really envy the USA way. Keep up the good work. ;0)
I totally agree, the Uk only has a small number of registered Rolex dealerships, and getting any significant discount is very difficult. There's the advertised price, take it or leave it. A bit like walking into the Rolls Royce Bentley dealership in Mayfair in London, and asking for a discount for cash. They would laugh and show you the door. America is a vast country, with significantly more Rolex dealerships, so getting a discount, however small, would be easier.
Peter - I am not sure I entirely agree but I do think people are afraid to negotiate. Remember it just happens that Jack Barclay ARE in Mayfair but they are part of a huge group. they will negotiate. Watches of Switzerland would not negotiate on my Panerai but that was when Panerai was new in this country - my guy also said to me "I don't need to discount any Rolex" but always try me on anything else. I think it also helps to be nice and build a relationship first. Just a thought.
Not always true with UK prices..I have just got my no date sub at list after waiting 9 months..I could have got one immediately in the USA but the AD price was 18% higher based on current exchange rates..even duty free in Dubai the price of the Sub was higher than UK list..
I was always afraid to negotiate, but when I started following this advise, I even found that enjoyable and the AD was always open to it.Thanks for the video!
NEVER buy New at a retail store. NEVER pay sales tax by buying in a store. Always buy USED online. Buy from a Watch forum from a fellow collector. I’ve bought 5 Airking watches from various eBay sellers with no issues whatsoever.
@@julio2854 If you don't already know how to authenticate it then meet the seller at a jeweler/watch dealer who can authenticate that specific watch brand. You pick the jeweler. If the seller doesn't want to have it authenticated then that's a deal breaker right there.
Hi Fernando I have just come into a 1968 Tudor oyster prince submariner on bracelet all original never serviced with original box and papers. Never been serviced still works. Should I leave alone the crystal is scratched but still readable. Thanks
Good advice. I have to say, there is a lot of great sellers on Ebay but there is some shady ones as well. Once you receive your watch from an Ebay purchase take it to a reputable watch dealer so it can be authenticated. Don't let the sales person at the front desk tell you "looks real to me", ask for a watch maker to look at it. A sales person may not have the proper knowledge to help you. Fakes are amazingly good this days...for example the Chinese produces watches 1:1, what this means? means that parts of a fake are exchangeable to the original and viceversa. Many fakes have become "frankens" (or Frankenstein) authentic parts are added to the fake and resold as original watches when in reality is a fake.
GREAT tips!! I like that part about negotiations but got to catch the moment when the seller blinks first ;) ...that's the part I missed .. most of the time :(

Great video. Hope your well. I live in London which is located in the UK. Watches in London are normally sold about £1,000-£3,000 more than in America and Canada. Do you have any more tips in getting a discount on a second hand or vintage watch? Thanks your your time. Have a good day.
Hi, do you ever travel to another Country were you might want to look at watches, when I take a cruise to other places I look at the watch sales with the duty-free sales, thank you for watching
Collecting Vintage Watches That's for your suggestion. I only travel to EU countries which I still would have to pay VAT (VAT = European Sales Tax), plus duty tax on top of that tax as well. Also I am only looking to buy a pre owned or vintage watch as I proberly save 50% of the original full retail price. I plan to buy only 1 watch and wear it everyday. Hope your well. Do you know where I could get a reasonably priced used watch? Have a great day.
Pawn shops? They're the most expensive places. They buy as cheap as possible and sell as high as possible. All my best deals have been on the Internet.

kevin shaw pawn shops, on average, have the highest prices, and often times overpriced for the condition, however if you shop pawnshops frequently, you will find a good deal from time to time! You will clearly find a better deal on eBay and other platforms, often time in better condition and with papers, box, extra links!
Thank you for that endorsement. As I am looking to buy a Lange Sohne Saxonia Moonphase and found out that Jomashop offers like 30% discount than retail price.
If you take a Jomashop ad for a Speedmaster into an Omega AD, I can guarantee they will NOT match that price. And if they know what they're doing, they'll throw the fact that a Jomashop Speedie has a worthless warranty in your face. I will say though, I tried to buy a watch on Chrono 24. The seller had a "make me an offer" option. They rejected every single offer I made (which were all at least 90% of asking price), and would only accept their full asking price, which I found disingenuous.

You won't be able to walk into a brick and mortar store and negotiate down to a gray market price, it simply won't happen. At most you'll get a few bucks off retail, instead you're more likely to get the spiel about how buying from an AD guarantees authenticity. The best place to buy new watches is from reputable online gray market dealers, and I don't mean places like Jomashop. Also, excellent deals on new and used watches can be easily found on the numerous watch enthusiast forums.

I won’t sell pocket watches or wristwatches on eBay with auctions anymore. Stuff goes for way to cheap. I will only sell buy it now from here on out. EBay has ruined the market for so many collectibles.
How’s about being armed with the knowledge of how much markup the dealer has on the watch? For example, practically all certified Patek dealers pay half of the MSRP.
I guess it's like buying a new car -- offer them a percentage less (for a watch, say about 15%) and promise to the pay the tax on it so they can claim it on their books. Looking forward to your next video on this.
With the current state of brick and mortar stores, both economically and now after the coronavirus- I just don’t see how these stores will survive the next decade. If major department stores such as Nordstrom is filing bankruptcy, the mama/papa shop doesn’t stand much of a chance.
Market in south Spain. the reason its called flea market is cuz its very small and only a selected group of people can enter but dont worry as long as you are white you have high chances of getting in
I'm confused as to why warranties are viewed as 'invalid' unless bought from an AD. Surely if the watch is faulty then it's faulty, no matter where it is bought, especially here in England that has a lot of consumer protection laws.
Flea markets and especially pawn shops are terrible way to buy. Not only do you not really know what you are really getting, but pawn shops want as much as a new watch, they are arrogant and do not really work with a potential customer, though there maybe an exception out there.
Regarding Paypal protection, i just lot 900 eu when a packet got stolen and although tracking says "packing lost in delivery process" Paypal denied my claim and denied my appeal! 900 eu up in smoke. Unfortunately i transferred money from my bank account and not from my creditcard so i lost a layer. I am pretty shure that if i made the payment with my creditcard as fund i would not have got screwed by Paypal. From yesterday i have shifted my trust in Paypal from "i am protected" to "Paypal has 0 value". Just saying. Regarding point 1 and 2 in your advise, in the Netherlands "mom and pop" stores have left the retail landscape. In my area there are only 2 or 3 "high brow" jewelers and pawn shops are mostly a USA and Asia phenomenon so online is my best option. Anyway, i like your points and i agree with them all. Cheers.
+Knobexploit music electronics im so sorry that happened to you, thats why i made the point of credit card on the video Amex is the best choice, if there's no jewelry stores you have the option of fleamarkets (carboots) i think there called in Europe, if the package was insured try that option perhaps. Thank you for the comment and so sorry this happened.
Thanks for the reply, i will never buy anything again without creditcard backup, you need the triple layer. I just bought a Rolex Date 1500 via Instagram (for me this is the digital fleamarket) from a guy who sells watches from his home. I got a very nice watch without the overhead of bigger resellers and dealers online. What i would like to add to your point is that once you have handled a "real" Rolex, specially the oysters it becomes pretty easy to filter out the fakes and incorrects. My first Rolex purchase was a bit of a snake, it has bitten me but not fatal but it has given me so much experience that my second purchase was top notch. Nothing beats real life experience. I am looking out to your new video. Cheers
You have to be careful of pawn shops and other similar thrift stores etc a lot of the time they knowingly or sometimes unknowingly buy a replica watch and pass it on to you and you can lose small or lose big. Also printing out a listening of a watch off of Jomashop will get you laughed out of a authorized dealer. They may lower the watch price a tiny bit but they are not ever going to match my less beat Jomashop's price. Why because Joma is a grey market dealer and those watches don't come with any factory warranty even though they are authentic and even if their is a defect that would be normally covered under warranty. They pay a local watch maker to fix the watches they sell and if they have to on some brands like say Breitling that don't sell parts probably have to eat a actual service center bill. As for Ebay you can't return a watch just because you don't like it. You can if the watch was not in the condition as described in the listing, or was misrepresented in some way. I sold many many watches on Ebay and always had a or best offer. Why because people are cheapskates and want the deal of the century even if I got the watch for free or cheap doesn't mean I'm going to give it away. What I always do is try to find the going rate and beat that by 10-15 percent and start their so that I'm the lowest auction around. Of course I hope to get top dollar but their is a price in my head that if I don't hit that minimum then the watch can rot in the closet and collect dust. Lowballers will want a 50 or more percent discount on a watch that is already priced to sell or already in line or below the market price. Best advice is if buying new figure out the retail price which is not hard and then figure out through researching grey market and used prices. Usually in between new and grey market is the lowest you'll get so if you can negotiate them down to a price you can live with and be happy close the deal. Another big tip is look up how much the brand depreciates some or most will a lot that buying new even discounted still isn't worth it. That's where used or grey market comes in.
+D fens Hi you can find a counter point to everything I say but reality is that most jewelry stores are not AD so they only want to stay in business and for every low boller you find there's 100 dealers overpricing there goods you may elect to put things in your closet and let them collect dust but that's why the consumer needs to find what's good for them, I'm not against making money but I am against people destroying the watch market selling things 20 times over value, thank you for your counter points 😊
Keep buying the trends and see how bad it will hurt after a while, I made this video for the collector's that want a vintage or a new watch that stores stock
Hi , nice video love most of it.. question off topic, what table light you have there? Looks cool.. regarding the video the online dealing... depending maybe you have bad experience i had luck!
I’ve spoken to many jewelers who have said they just can’t compete with the online vendors. And I disagree that the experience is better at a brick and mortar store. They are expecting you to buy something and are often disingenuous and pushy. Most watch guys are sick of overpriced watches, that is why online shopping in general has become so popular. People know what they want, they are educated, and they don’t want to deal with the pushy sales tactics of the brick and mortar guys. And are you kidding me with pawnshops? They are the bloodsuckers of the earth.
So why doesn't anyone want o tell how they started doing the watch selling. . .Any of the places you mentioned wouldn't have a watch worth reselling unless it was on ebay for a few dollars. . .
+Simon Bear of course NOT any watch maker can service a watch, A D sale's pitch is always go authorise dealer for service but it's totally unnecessary in most watches, unless your buying a Patek Philippe World timer with a repeater 😁
When you said don't buy online, i was going to turn away. I am glad you mentioned ebay. I was thinking, if this guy don't know ebay is a great place to buy watches, he don't know what he is talking about.
What's a good percentage off to ask for at a Rolex AD? I'm want to get the GMT-Master II 116710BLNR. Right now the cheapest used one on chrono24 is $9300. With the current retail price of just under $9000. It's cheaper to go to an AD. I'm also profiting at least $300 walking out the retail store, if I was to resale it for $9300. However, if I can get just 5%, that's $8550 brand new.
+Devin Werner yard sales and garage sales are good sometimes and I really here's the thing in good neighbourhood they know what they have and want more then what it's worth, I like estate sales the most thank you for watching
How are they the same 1: don't buy in a online retail store 2: get out of your comfort zone and do the mom & pop stores. Not the same but I really appreciate you watching 😊
I disagree, I had an excellent experience buying my first luxury watch online at Chrono24. I was able to haggle on my Tag Heuer and get it at $1,200 less than the average pre-owned price. I got excellent customer service and the watch arrived in pristine condition. And Chrono24 guarantees authenticity! One word of advice, DO NOT BUY from a private seller on Chrono24, only buy from an authorized dealer/jeweler.
For someone reading this today, buy it as long as you pay via PayPal. Then when the watch arrives go to an authorized dealer or a local watchmaker to authenticate it. Unless you are an expert at authenticating a watch then have someone else do it. If it's fake do a return. There are a lot of fakes/modified/replacement pieces on eBay that look original. It might be a gold bezel or bracelet or dial but it's thinner or it's made of 12kt and worth $400 instead of $1500 like the correct part would be worth.
If anyone wants to buy a Rolex Datejust worth 14k for 10k let me know. I don’t have the time to go to watch academy and learn how to sell it. My father bought it just before he passed and I am sick of jewelers wanting to rip me off for 5 or 6k. I don’t need quick money but I don’t need a 10k or 14k watch either. Also I don’t want to do endless emails and all that. Serious ready to buy people only.
I would like to add my experience about auction. the last 5 minutes are the only time that counts. You could be winning and start celebrating then realize that you lossed.
+Devin Werner yes you're so right the auction does not end until the last refresh the site makes and then you realize you lost the bid I hate when that happens, thank you for your comment 😊
On eBay... You can always shoot the seller a msg with an offer. "Hi there, I can purchase this watch at $$$$ would you accept this amount? I can purchase today." If so, ask them to adjust their lowest offer. I've done it before!!!
+Alan Thorburn I don't know what your talking about Datejust are not 4k I buy them all day long for $1800 and sell them for $2100 my face is just perfect, if your one of the sheep that over pay for Rolex then keep doing it but I'm here to tell the rest of the world you don't need to pay high price on old watches
Collecting Vintage Watches i believe he’s referring to new Rolex watches, not pre owned or vintage pieces. Which makes sense bc Rolex and its ADs are trying to keep their price at a certain price point.
Sorry my friend Your vlog is so boring........do you home work on the internet sure .....choose your brand and model then go and deal face to face. But this 4 k watch getting it for 2200 think not ...try gray markets and all this vintage market let others do it ...you don't know what's been replaced.
I have to disagree with this guy; I have bought watches from reputable online dealers (check out the watch forum sites, you'll soon find them) that gave me deals where in the best case, I got a $16500 watch for $6000 (it also came with the manufacturers guarantee); I would Never buy on EBay. Also, when it comes to buying watches in normal shops, it really depends on where you are in the world. The Caribbean and SE Asia are go places where you get fantastic deals; I once got a Rolex gold Daytona that (by the time you paid tax) would have cost $28000 in the US, I got for $13500. Regarding online auctions, I have never used them and can't comment.

Flea markets and especially pawn shops are terrible way to buy. Not only do you not really know what you are really getting, but pawn shops want as much as a new watch, they are arrogant and do not really work with a potential customer, though there maybe an exception out there.
Very informative and helpful!
I like your advice, sir.
I’ve just subscribed.
Thank you.
+Archer thank you so very much for your support 🙏
Very intelligent advices sir. Thanks for the videos.
+Jay Sikes thank you for the comment and your support
Excellent advise.
+Knobexploit music electronics thank you i hope it helps a little bit.
Yeah right. Try to get a Rolex Ceramic Daytona with your tips.
Keep buying the trends and see how bad it will hurt after a while, I made this video for the collector's that want a vintage or a new watch that stores stock
Am I the only person think the host looks like John Stewart from daily show.
Lol 😅
Very informative! Thank you so much.
All depends on the model. If you want a new skydweller you are paying MSRP st lowest
Do you fix watches??? I see a work station table behind you.
i do work on watches
Hi , nice video love most of it.. question off topic, what table light you have there? Looks cool.. regarding the video the online dealing... depending maybe you have bad experience i had luck!
it's a Cosco lamp with a small fan integrated, i have a great time buying online but i much rather keep the mom and pop shop going and if i can.
You know what you talk about👌
Johnny Johansson thank you brother 😊
I’ve spoken to many jewelers who have said they just can’t compete with the online vendors. And I disagree that the experience is better at a brick and mortar store. They are expecting you to buy something and are often disingenuous and pushy.
Most watch guys are sick of overpriced watches, that is why online shopping in general has become so popular. People know what they want, they are educated, and they don’t want to deal with the pushy sales tactics of the brick and mortar guys.
And are you kidding me with pawnshops? They are the bloodsuckers of the earth.
Your advice is so helpful and make sense.
I can even feel that you really wanted to helpful for somebody. Great video !!!
So why doesn't anyone want o tell how they started doing the watch selling. . .Any of the places you mentioned wouldn't have a watch worth reselling unless it was on ebay for a few dollars. . .
Thanks you’re a great guy for this👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
Thank you so much
Great video! Very interesting and helpful. :)
What happens when you need to have the watch serviced in 3-5 years? If not bought from an authorized dealer? Will that not cost more headaches ?
+Simon Bear of course NOT any watch maker can service a watch, A D sale's pitch is always go authorise dealer for service but it's totally unnecessary in most watches, unless your buying a Patek Philippe World timer with a repeater 😁
Ok, thanks, appreciate the quick response !
the AD are not allowed to match jomashops prices. they will lose the brand if they sold them at that price
When you said don't buy online, i was going to turn away. I am glad you mentioned ebay. I was thinking, if this guy don't know ebay is a great place to buy watches, he don't know what he is talking about.
Thank you for the video. Very good advice :)
+Conrad Bo thank you so much 😊
What's a good percentage off to ask for at a Rolex AD? I'm want to get the GMT-Master II 116710BLNR. Right now the cheapest used one on chrono24 is $9300. With the current retail price of just under $9000. It's cheaper to go to an AD. I'm also profiting at least $300 walking out the retail store, if I was to resale it for $9300. However, if I can get just 5%, that's $8550 brand new.
+cjack202003 right now with the new rumor if Rolex limiting production I don't know what to tell you but I know a lot of ADs are allowed 10%
+Magister Ludi you are correct you need to pay a premium if you want it asap but I would wait or a older model
8550 is price for submariner 116610LN with date @AD. 116710BNLR Batman GMT is 8950 from AD..
Fantastic video thanks
Just subscribed -- great info -- thank you!
Great advice, thanks.
Any luck at yard sales. If so does the quality of neighbourhood matter
+Devin Werner yard sales and garage sales are good sometimes and I really here's the thing in good neighbourhood they know what they have and want more then what it's worth, I like estate sales the most thank you for watching
Good video tips great keep up the good work.
+Brian Connelly Thank you so much 😊
when using ebay how do you deal with customs fee?
Great question, I don't eBay global takes care of it for me
Hi,Thanks for the advice I will take it to heart my friend. 👍
Paul Brady thank you so much for your support i hope this helps a little in your next watch adventure.
1 & 2 are the same.
Thanks, some good ideas in here!
+Scott Anderson thank you for watching 😁
Excellent information thanks very much
First he says don't buy a watch on line. Then, he says eBay is a great place to buy a watch.
Did you pay attention when i said i have a loophole
It's still a contradiction. Good video tho.
Where do you sell your watches ?
+Fayssal Kaddoura I'm out of chicago
Es raro ver tus vídeos en inglés pero siempre dando buenos consejos en español o inglés sobre la compra de relojes Fernando
would you buy a watch for $2,000 on ebay from a seller with 0 sales/reviews? but the watch looks legit, box/papers etc
Great advice. :)
+lareno04 thank you 😊
I would like to add my experience about auction. the last 5 minutes are the only time that counts. You could be winning and start celebrating then realize that you lossed.
+Devin Werner yes you're so right the auction does not end until the last refresh the site makes and then you realize you lost the bid I hate when that happens, thank you for your comment 😊
Devin Werner -
I'm wearing an Android, Etta 2824, saphire crystal, keeps perfect time cost >$300! Rolex too much $$!
Do not compare digital watch and fully mechanical watch. I'm not taking about Rolex'es
I stopped watching when he said “...don’t buy online”.
I just bought a new Batman $16,000
i did too. Only 16 bucks tho. That's probably why the plastic is cheap but his cape is really cool on mine
TLDR: Always negotiate (lmao).
Believe it or not there's a lot of people that are afraid to negotiate
I dont think its a good idea to look for a date just on flee market, especially if you cant tell the difference between genuine and good fake.
They dont teach these things in school
why would they?
When I purchase watches on eBay I make sure to wear a condom. That way I have four layers of protection.
You do what you got a do
On eBay... You can always shoot the seller a msg with an offer. "Hi there, I can purchase this watch at $$$$ would you accept this amount? I can purchase today." If so, ask them to adjust their lowest offer. I've done it before!!!
And........
+Pook_ Papers and🤔
mean over bite doe
Its about watches you can check my other beauty channel for a more appropriate comment

Rolex won't budge on price. So your wasting your time, energy and face.
Sorry.
Sorry my friend
Your vlog is so boring........do you home work on the internet sure .....choose your
brand and model then go and deal face to face.
But this 4 k watch getting it for 2200 think not ...try gray markets and all this vintage
market let others do it ...you don't know what's been replaced.
Really bad advice. Watch Forums are the best place to buy new or used. Oh, and learn how to spell "Panerai".
+Roger M spelling is not my strong suit but a view is a view so thank you and when I said online I meant online stores
10min18sec of my life wasted... 10 years in the industry I can tell you this is crap.
10 years of my life wasted... 10min18sec in the industry I can tell you this is crap.
Good opinion even if we disagree 😁
Agree, online is good. Just know the prices and make sure you're protected all the way. The market adjusts for the lack of momentum.
